Trey-Fecta ! ! !

Well, that was weird. The Niners postured, posed, and intimated that their guy was Mac Jones. Instead, they went with what most sane people thought they should do, and drafted Trey Lance.

The most telling aspect of it was, right after he was picked, Lance was asked “When did you find out that the 49ers were going to pick you?” Lance said “About 2 minutes ago!”

Maybe it did take some arm-twisting behind the scenes by John Lynch to get Kyle Shanahan off of the Pillsbury Doughboy. Maybe Shanny had a back-room deal to talk up Jones and leave him for Belichick. Maybe they just wanted to anger the fans for no apparent reason other than to mess with our heads.

No idea, but the good news is we didn’t draft Mac Jones. He fell to 15 like most of us thought anyway. We drafted the guy I thought we should be targeting all along. Trey Lance. He of the linebacker size and a cannon for an arm. Yes, he’s raw, but you can’t teach size and speed. He’s smart, quick, mobile, and tough. He is very familiar with a pro-style play-action offense and has vast potential.

I’ve said all along, he has the greatest upside of all of these guys not named Trevor Lawrence. Color me ecstatic with this pick.

I hope we can get Shi Smith the wr from SC or the Stanford C with our 3 pick

Trey Selman’s cool I guess. Will we ever draft a CB?

  3. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    Melifonwu is still there.

    2 Trey’s to the bay…
Ohio St RB Trey Sermon is a very talented back!
Anybody that can rush for a school record 331 yards against Northwestern is special. Can also catch the ball out of the backfield.
Maybe the 49ers are deciding to pickup a CB/S from other teams cuts?

  5. Winder's avatar Winder says:

Did we give the Rams both our 4th rd picks?

  6. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yes. 117 and 121, Winder. We still have pick 102. Comp pick for Saleh iirc.

  7. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Lance to wear Jeff Garcia’s old number, #5. This is the worst, waiting from the draft to the time these guys start reporting to OTA’s then camp. That Notre Dame guard looks like a stud.

Nice of JG reaching out to Lance. Like I said, he’s a pro and will act as such throughout this process. Psyched about Trey Lance coming on board.

3 offensive picks that includes 2 trade ups. A very different draft so far.

    Missed Melifonwu by 1 dammit

I think JG plays his ass off this year, he needs to show other teams he is a capable QB. He knows his days are numbered with the Niners.

I am loving this guy more and more

Banks grew up in Alameda, went to El Cerrito High and is close with new Steelers running back Najee Harris. On Friday, however, he was barbecuing in Southern California where he trained to prepare for the draft.

“I spent the day prepping and trying to clean up the house and setting up for people to have food and stuff,” Banks said on a Zoom call. “I had a pork shoulder on the smoker and was kind of just going about it as normal I can. I didn’t want to get too high. I didn’t want to get too low.”

In that way, he’s already got the O-line mentality down pat. He nailed the theme of the 49ers’ offseason as well.

“If you can’t protect your quarterback, you can’t really win games,” he said. “I don’t know where else to go with that. … We had a saying at Notre Dame: The team goes as we go. By ‘we,’ I mean the offensive line. If you don’t have an offensive line that can protect the quarterback and assert the run game, then you’re going to have a tough time.”

    Who was asking about CB’s

With the final pick of the day, the 49ers took a cornerback. Lynch said they were considering a local player, Stanford’s Paulson Adebo, but the Saints took him early in the third round (No. 76). The 49ers ended up taking Michigan’s Ambry Thomas at pick No. 102.

Niners picked up a STUD Running Back who will preach his Sermon on Gameday highlights! Could end up one of the steals of the draft!
Trey Sermon 6’0 215 lbs elusive, breakaway speed, is a 3 down back.In Shanahan’s revolving door of either the hot back playing a lot are injuries Sermon will get slot of playing time along side, Mosert,Wilson,Gallman, he will move Hasty off the depth charts.
Real solid draft for the 49ers filling needs at QB,OL,RB,CB..This team is loaded with not to many openings, so maybe with three 5th rd picks they should just package them all to move up if they have a certain BPA in mind and call it a draft, which has been a solid one..

  18. Winder's avatar Winder says:

Just me being superstitious I think we should keep all three of our 5th rd picks. We got Greenlaw and Kittle there plus we got some other good players that either got hurt or picked up by the fucking Seafucks

  19. Winder's avatar Winder says:

    The more OL’s the better

  20. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

More beef for the OL..Jaylin Moore 6’5 315 LT 3 year starter at Western Michigan projects to move to guard in the pros..
