Draft Day ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Oh.My.GGGGODDDDD!!!!!!! Can’t tell you how fucked up this all seems. The blathering will stop soon. The only good news on my side was getting rid of cable so I didn’t have to see Mel Kiper’s fucking jet-black helmet head obliterating my consciousness.

Still, the pundits-o’plenty are out in force touting, discounting, prevaricating, dithering, and yammering non-stop about our pick. It seems to be the most interesting one since it is pretty much set in concrete that

The Jags take Lawrence and the Jets take Wilson. This is written on high on whatever it is they write it on in Cleveland, but that leaves us with the trifecta of you know whos.

Irish posted an interesting column from the Athletic that pretty much gave away the secret that any QB with a pulse and a completion percentage over 65% garners overenthusiastic love and accolades from scouts/owners/coaches/GMs that this is the next coming of Joe Montana. Well, nix that, his arm wasn’t big enough. Hence him being a 3rd round pick.

Which leads me to the other albatross in the room that many many of these high QB picks flame out spectacularly. Jared Goff being the latest among the Vince Youngs, Tim Couches, Mitchell Trubiscuits, Carson Wentzes, and Todd Marinovitches.

The NFL landscape is littered with 1st round casualties among the needles in the haystack like Aaron Rodgers (barely a 1st rounder), Patrick Mahomes, Big Ben, Lamar Jackson, Andrew Luck, and Peyton Manning.

So, where does that leave us? Fuck if I know. The consensus is that Jones was the guy they fell in love with from the get-go, but that Trey Lance has narrowed the gap considerably. Fields isn’t even in the discussion. Even so far as to Lance lead the handicappers who bet on this kind of shit. Normally I would hold that in some kind of esteem, but I’m still more that afraid that Shanny set his mind to Jones on March 26th, and hasn’t budged an inch.

I fear a gigantic outburst of angst from the Faithful come that 3rd pick. Haven’t even considered what we do at our 2nd pick. CB/OL, I’d think. I may be too drunk to care by then.

    Shock the World at 3.
    Draft Pitts 😀

    • alleykat69 says:

      A lot worse picks NJ..
Yeah just run the ball all game with Kittle&Pitts
It would keep Jimmy G healthy!
But that’s just not going to happen,
I’m doing my best Kevin Costner (Sonny) Draft Day moment and despite all the hype and haters the guy who’s going to prove them all wrong will be with my green piece of folded paper that says:Justin Fields No Matter What.. Kyle won’t screw this up Jones was always just smoke and hype,No to Bo Mac Jones Callahan
Niners have a top 10 OL , good run game, great young receivers with YAC abilities, a top 3 TE now with Kittle ( maybe higher if he stays healthy right along Kelce and Waller) they just need the dynamic all purpose QB and ready now with more college starts then Jones and Lance. Lance would be the second choice but he’s just to green when there ready to win it all now.. Fields is also the highest according to PPF rated QB on second read throws with a minimum of 60 attempts at 90.6 Wilson2nd 90.4 Lance 3rd 87.4 Lawrence 7th and Jones 9th..

  2. Irish Kevin says:

On KNBR Brent Jones is picking Lance

  3. Aaaron Rodgers says:

The blathering will never stop on this assisted living version of a forty whiners blog.

  4. Lurker John says:

Again, I’ve yet to see a decent explanation as to how any kind of “smokescreen” would benefit the 49ers. Assuming Lawrence goes to the Jags and Wilson goes to the Jets, as close to locks as you can get in this situations, the Niners will have their pick of the remaining QB’s in the draft, whomever that may be. So why a smokescreen?

Why leak that they want Jones, then take Fields or Lance? How could that possibly benefit them? Answer: it can’t. Brace yourself, Kat, for the very real possibility that in about one half hour Mac Jones will be the newest 49er.

    • alleykat69 says:

LJ..There not taking Jones, they immediately become the laughing stock of the draft. In à agência where everyone’s looking for the next Patrick Mahomes, Jones won’t be that period!!
U have to draft a multi-dynamic QB and that’s either Fields are Lance.

  5. Lurker John says:

Well, if they’re going to do it, they’d better hurry up.

  6. unca_chuck says:

They can do it with their pick. Throw in Jimmy G as well.

If we pick Jones, all it means is that the entire organization licks Shanny’s balls. Not a good thing. It’s what got his dad in trouble.

  7. Lurker John says:

FFS, what the hell is taking Jacksonville so long?

  8. unca_chuck says:

I’m sure the NFL said “take your time” Sell more shit, run more ads.

  9. Lurker John says:

Why does anyone listen to Mel Kiper? The guys acts and talks like he’s a football expert. To hear him talk, you’d think he’d been an NFL coach for years.

  10. unca_chuck says:

    My fave.

    • alleykat69 says:

That was funny as hell! And so true about clown 🤡 Kiper!! Who in the hell is Mel Kiper? He’s never ever put on a jockstrap , and he has less knowledge then my postman! Great stuff!!

  11. unca_chuck says:

    Pick 1 – Shocking – Trevor Lawrence

  12. Lurker John says:

    They sure milked that one.

  13. Lurker John says:

That video is hilarious. Tore ol’ Mel a new one.

  14. unca_chuck says:

Jets get the same treatment. Don;t see how they don’t take Zach WIlson.

Then again, they are a pretty stupid organization. Gonna see how they do with Saleh as their HC though. Hopefully they get their shit together a little.

  15. Lurker John says:

Man, Wilson looks like a high schooler.

  16. Irish Kevin says:

10 mins and we will know who the next QB will be a Niner. Everyone who writes or is on an SF radio station is saying it will be M Jones, but they all hope it is Lance

    • unca_chuck says:

The fact that everyone from the entire 49ers organization to the millions of fans, writers, and broadcasters all want us to take Lance, and if he goes with Jone, he’s gonna regret it.

  17. unca_chuck says:

    Pick 2 – Zach Wilson

  18. Lurker John says:

    Here we go, boys!

  19. unca_chuck says:

    Oh boy.Here we go

  20. Irish Kevin says:

    Here we go

  21. unca_chuck says:

    YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!

  22. Irish Kevin says:

    Woo hoo

  23. Lurker John says:

    BOOM!

  24. Irish Kevin says:

I have now moved away from the ledge

  25. 12th Man says:

Boom or bust, fingers crossed its boom.

  26. Lurker John says:

    Wow, they went all in.

  27. Winder says:

    Fantastic. Now we can relax

  28. unca_chuck says:

Whooooooooooo boy. If Shanny is truly the quarterback whisperer, then we have a very bright future ahead of us.

  29. Lurker John says:

The kid is raw, but supremely talented. I guess that means JG will be around another year. I’d think you want to ease Lance into the position.

    • unca_chuck says:

I have no idea now. The team is fairly well-built to ease a guy into the role with our run game. If we can trsde jimmy for a 2 we are gonna do it.

  30. unca_chuck says:

Don;t know why the team played chicken with Jac Mones, but here we are!! Love it.

  31. Tres Lance says:

I am still crying alone in my basement.

  32. Lurker John says:

Let’s see how far Jones falls now.

  33. Winder says:

I think they smoke screened it because of Saleh. I am sure we didn’t want to let on how much we wanted lance. It could have turned the pick. I think the Jets took the biggest gamble.

  34. unca_chuck says:

I guess. I’m not really sold on that, but it could be. I have been on the Lance train since we announced the trade. Jones may fall to the Redskins at 19?

  35. alleykat69 says:

LJ… I can now smoke a cigar have several drinks and be excited instead of being on suicide watch!
Every team wanted the Niners to take Jones, now they will be scrambling to move up to 8-9 to get Fields.Jones Will probably go to the Patriots at 15 now if they want him..

    • Lurker John says:

You called it Kat! Enjoy that smoke and those drinks! Kyle now needs to work his magic and get this kid up to the level where he can lead the team to those championships we all want. GO NINERS!

  36. Lurker John says:

I think the Jets were going with Wilson regardless. The smokescreen thing just doesn’t make sense. That’s the trap you can fall into when you listen to these “experts” who probably don’t know any more than the rest of us. Shanny would have to be a fool to show his hand, and who knows when he made up his mind on Lance. Maybe he’ll say later.

Anyway, I’m excited. The kid is an exciting talent. Let’s hope he pans out.

  37. Lurker John says:

I wonder what it was about Fields that put teams off him, at least so far. He may still go top 10, which ain’t chopped liver.

  38. Lurker John says:

Waddle, one of the guys Jones was throwing to last year.

  39. Irish Kevin says:

Kyle chose Lance cause he is a raw talent, Kyle can mold him into the QB he wants him to be, just like Walsh did with Montana

  40. Lurker John says:

I’m glad Rodgers didn’t come out to SF. Great QB, but 37? I’m glad they’re going young with Lance.

  41. Lurker John says:

Sewell goes to the Lions at #8.

  42. unca_chuck says:

There are whispers around Fields that he isn’t dedicated enough, He’s more of a ‘last-in, first-out’ guy. No idea if that is true or not but that has been floated out there. Add the recent revelation that he’s got epilepsy, and it doesn’t take much to fall.

Fucking Rodgers was supposed to be the #1 pick and he went at 24 for no particular reason.

  43. unca_chuck says:

If Fields goes, I’d think Carolina or Denver.

  44. unca_chuck says:

Or not. Jycee Horn, CB to Carol.

  45. Lurker John says:

Hadn’t heard the epilepsy thing. That could be legit, if he really does have it. Makes you wonder why he’d even play football with it.

    • unca_chuck says:

He noted that he has it under control and hasn’t had a problem with itt, and many of his family members deal with it to no adverse effects, but it is a thing.

  46. unca_chuck says:

Wow. Denver is relegated to 3rd place in the AFC West for another year.

  47. Irish Kevin says:

49ers quarterbacks have 83 turnovers under head coach Kyle Shanahan, tied for third most in the NFL since 2017, and including the playoffs Jimmy Garoppolo has the third-highest interception rate in the NFL over the past two seasons. One of Lance’s greatest strengths is his decision-making, and his running ability makes him a great fit for Shanahan’s zone-read attack. — Muench

  48. unca_chuck says:

    Surtain’s a stud.

  49. unca_chuck says:

Fucking Bears traded up for Jones? !!! If they pick him they are lunatics. They UST got through the Trubiscuit era.

  50. Lurker John says:

    Fields to da Bears.

    • alleykat69 says:

LJ..Pittsburgh Steelers had a HOF guard in Alan Faneca who played in the early 2000’s 13 years with epilepsy with no issues, just taking his meds everyday. So I don’t see a problem with Fields at all. But obviously these days a red flag for some..
Hell maybe the 49ers didn’t like Jones DUI his 1st year at Alabama when he was 19. Red flag for the underage boozer..

      • Lurker John says:

Yeah. I knew a guy when I was in high school who had epilepsy and it was pretty devastating for him. He’d have these grand mal seizures that would incapacitate him for quite a while. He would never be able to drive, but I also know there are varying degrees of the disease, meaning not everyone has it that bad, not to mention I’m sure treatment has come a long way. Hope it works out for him.

      • Irish Kevin says:

They say he is on meds and they control the seizures

      • Lurker John says:

Back then the meds were almost as debilitating as the disease itself. I’m sure Fields would not risk it if it wasn’t under control, I just hadn’t heard that he has the disease. The Bears are beyond due to his paydirt with a QB, so I really hope Fields is the guy. It’s good for the NFL when the Bears are relevant. Classic franchise.

  51. unca_chuck says:

Good for the Bears. Fields should be good for them.

  52. Irish Kevin says:

    Jones to the Patriots

  53. unca_chuck says:

Jones to the Pats. Wow. This is exactly why i didn’t want to trade up for him.

  54. Lurker John says:

Yeah, Chuck, you pretty much nailed that one. I wasn’t so sure, but he probably went where he should have. Belichick will probably coach him up good. Jones seems like a good fit as a system QB. Good situation for him and more evidence that JG stays put.

  55. alleykat69 says:

I’m in just so happy that I can be off of suicide watch, now that they did the right choice with Trey Lance!

This kid is going to be special with all the exciting intangibles he will add.Yes he needs a lot more reps and experience, but Shanny and this coaching staff will bring that out of him and this team going forward is going to be a powerhouse in the NFL!!
B/R already graded out the pick as a solid A…

    • unca_chuck says:

We got A’s for Solly Thomas and Reuben Foster. Turned out to be a resounding F.

      That shit don’t mean shit.

      • Winder says:

yeah, that dickwad Prisco at cbs gave us a C-. I am ok with that since he’s a fucknut anyway. And, once again Kiper had it all wrong on our pick.

  56. unca_chuck says:

Local kid Najee Harris to the Steelers.Good for him. He’s in a great situation.

  57. Lurker John says:

Yeah, the whole draft is a crapshoot. That said, go Trey Lance!

  58. Lurker John says:

Don’t know if this will work, but here’s Lynch after the Lance pick:

  59. Lurker John says:

    Guess not.

  60. Berger says:

Major risk. This is like when we signed Chip Kelly. Boom or bust. I hope we hit a HR and don’t strike out. Too much risk for 3 first round picks. I can’t see JG going anywhere this year.

    • 12th Man says:

That’s my take as well Berger.
If it works out it will be a dynasty building block.
One thing I like about it is their courage to swing for the fences.

      • Berger says:

I agree with them swinging for the fences but I absolutely hate the pick. He hasn’t even throw 400 passes in college and that was in the 2nd division. The best thing I can say is I am rooting for me to be wrong. I will be rooting for the kid.

  61. unca_chuck says:

No risk, no reward. I was hoping for Lance all along. You can’t teach size and speed.

  62. Winder says:

I like the pick and the gamble we took. The FO definitely sees something in this guy to warrant all the draft capitol we spent. My rosy glasses are on.

  63. unca_chuck says:

    New thread is up.

  64. Irish Kevin says:

Kyle needs to emphasize pass protection, two reasons, keep JG healthy, and when they are ready to trade him he will have value
