Earl Thomas is Available

Lots of talk about the availability of Earl Thomas, the commander of the legion of boom in Seattle. He punked his way out of Baltimore after helping them become a top three defense in the NFL last year. With fellow LOB member Richard Sherman already here, SF is high on the list of potential suitors.

And with his indiscretions so close in the rear-view mirror, he should be pretty easy to sign to some kind of one-year make good deal to rebuild his rep. He is only 31, and had a pro-bowl season last year, but the issues are ones that seem very familiar to Bay Area sports fans. Antonio Brown went through the same kinds of machinations around silly things. Up to the point of being cut by the Raiders after not even making it through camp, , and then by the Pats after having played one game amid charges of domestic abuse.

Is Thomas sliding down the road to oblivion? Hard to say, but you would have to think that if he had Sherman by his side in the locker room, and vet support keeping his wilder behaviors in check, it could work.

The only reason I think that this might be worth a shot is because Jaquiski Tartt and Jimmy Ward are injury-prone. It would give the team flexibility and they could move Ward to slot corner and have all 3 on the field. Thomas is an outstanding run defender and is still a solid player. We should be able to keep his head on straight and if not, pffffft, cut his ass. Write into the contract behavior provisions.

D.J. Jones has already returned to practice, so that’s good news. Aiyuk, Bosa and Ford were no-shows. Per Shanahan:
Aiyuk is week-to week with the hammy strain
Bosa is week-to-week with an ab strain
Ford is day-to-day with a calf strain

K’Wuan Williams, Ben Garland, and his sub Ross Reynolds didn’t practice.

New TE Jordan Reed had a solid practice doing his first 1-on-1 drills.

We are at late-season injury form.

    Shanahan said no to Earl.

Bosa’s injury as well as Aiyuk’s are apparently not going to affect their participation in the 1st game against AZ.

I thought Richburg, and Blairs injuries were healed but I guess they are not. J. Taylor is hurt also.

I think they are all on the PUP list, if they come off before final cut day, they are eligible to play, but if they go on the reg season pup list they have to miss the first 6 weeks.

    Here’s the list:

    DL Ronald Blair III.
    WR Shawn Poindexter.
    C Weston Richburg.
    DL Kentavius Street.
    DL Jullian Taylor.

Not sure if any of these guys are ready to come off the list. Didn’t even know Poindexter was hurt.

I guess no one wants Thomas.
