Wide Receiver Grab Bag

Well, bad news around Jalen Hurd. He once again injured himself to the tune of a season-ending injury, by bowing out his ACL on a simple cut rounte on the sidelines of practice on Sunday. he had successfully overcome a back injury that sidelined him all of last year. He appears to be as snakebit as RB Jerick McKinnon the once and future star who hasn’t played a meaningful down yet and is entering his 3rd year as a 49er.

Deebo Samuel may or may not make the opening day roster, but his availability will likely fall somewhere between him missing 6 weeks, and Deebo saying he’ll be ready for the Cardinals game. To address these injuries, the 49ers have brought in Speedster Tavon Austin, J.J. Neson, and Jaron Brown to fight for their 2 spots.

And to add to this, Travis Benjamin opted out of the season. So there are 3 possible spots depending on the position decisions upcoming.

Austin of course is intriguing because of his blinding speed, and the way the 49ers use WRs in the short passing, and even running game, the thought of getting him the ball in space seems like a great idea. Nelson spent time with the Raiders and Cards and is a decent #2-3 guy. He and Austin are likely fighting for the same spot as they are both small speed guys.

Jaron Brown however is a big target at 6′ 3 and 203 lb. And 4.40 speed. He has that elusive potential.

Never liked Austin. That truly sucks about Hurd because you just know he is gonna be a special type of player. See ya next year. Lots of players getting banged up early in camp. Hopefully we can keep em to a minimum. Damn it’s good to have some football. I am losing interest in the Giants, they don’t seem to give a shit about winning. All they have to do is eat a bunch of money and go full bore rebuild and i would be right there. I don’t understand what the kap situation it about.

Niners sign Johnathan Cyprien, safety from Tenn, Philly, and Atl. Decent eouugh guy who provides some depth.

I remember Cyprien from his college days at Florida International, thinking this guy is a beast with good size 6’1 212 and a second round pick of Jaguars in 2013. His Pro game never reached his college game though. Yeah like Chuck said added depth and maybe an occasional big play if he sticks on the team..

DJ Jones left practice with a shoulder injury. He was pretty angry apparently.

    Fuck this.

It doesn’t sound like Kinlaw is a quick learner. I read where Tomlinson is beating him like a drum. Hopefully not a wasted pick(Solomon).

FWIW, Trent Williams is stoning Nick Bosa, so maybe the O linemen are ahead of the D linemen.

  8. alleykat69 says:

It’s just good to know that Trent Williams still has plenty of giddy up in his tank. Not worried about LT at all with him playing..,

  9. unca_chuck says:

Yep. Hard to imagine but we got better at LT with Staley retiring.

Wonder if Burgs is still alive out there in Reno. So close to hell you can see Sparks!

Maybe he and NoFear made some kind of truce.

chuck, I do hope that both your sister and your family can stay safe with these fires. If it’s not one thing it’s another.

Unbelievable what’s happening to the WR core.
Now 1st rounder Aiciuk (sp) has pulled up lame with a hamstring pull Sunday. Unknown if he will be ready for the opener..
