Rough Road Ahead

Here we sit, 9-1 and on top of the NFL, according to some of those wonky ‘power rankings’ for this crazy 2019 season. Easy Street? Sure, but . . .

. . . there’s always a big but. The but is of course the last 6 games. Our remaining teams have a combined .683 winning percentage. Take out the Falcons and that rises to .760. No small task. And given that we are pretty banged up, the task becomes even tougher. Our stout and deep defense has lost Kwon Alexander and Dee Ford. Our daunting pass rush was slowed down by mobile quarterbacks these last 3 games.

Up next? Well, he ain’t mobile, but he is a long-lasting thorn in the 49er side, and local Chico boy, Aaron Rodgers. You know, the guy we could have drafted waaaay back in 2005. He’s ‘only’ 6-4 in his career vs the Niners, but he’s thrown 13 TDs and 2 INTs. The fun part is our 2-0 playoff record vs Green Bay. Both engineered by Colin Kaepernick.

At this point, this, along with the Falcons game appears to be the most winnable. The Packers seem to be winning by smoke and mirrors. Their signature wins so far are wins over a (Ma)homeless Chiefs team, and a win over the Cowboys. They inexplicably lost to the Chargers, and beat the Iggles.

Can we take them? Sure, if we can rediscover our pass rush. We don’t have to worry about the scrambling aspect of Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray (2x), but as we have seen over the years, Rodgers is very adept at getting outside the pocket and throwing accurately on the run.

Contain and destroy is the word of the day.  I think we can take these guys fairly handily.

31-17 Niners.

A reason to lament on how so many of us probably feel.
Knowing we passed on him multiple times (as many others did)

  2. Winder says:

Even if we did draft him instead of Smith he would have been thrown to the wolves just like Smith was. He had the luxury of sitting behind Farve for a few years and learning from one of the best. The Niners were such a mess in those years that no telling what would have happened to him. Once Norm left as OC we were fucked.

  3. alleykat69 says:

Yeah but maybe everything would of been different if the 49ers made Brady their draft pick in the 6th(what a joke he went at 199)(and he really wanted to be a niner) Steve Young ‘s career was ending, and we get a shit more SB Ring’s under Mooch as the coach!

The only scenario that woulda been kinda cool is if Nolan got bumped up to GM in 2006 and McCarthy became our HC instead of splitting for G Bay. With McCloughan coming into his own, we may have become a contender by 2009.

Charlie and Humphrey was Pat McCormick of KTVU (independent) Channel 2, wasn’t it?

  6. unca_chuck says:

Yep. Great stuff. I vaguely remember Cap’t Satellite, but Charlie & Humphrey were a staple of after school TV. The occasional Dialing for Dollars when home sick from school!

  7. unca_chuck says:

Myles Garrett JUST remembered (a week later) that Mason Rudolph used a racial slur that prompted the fight. After the apology. A week after the game. After talking to the media and his teammates. A slur that the 6 other guys in the vicinity didn’t seem to hear.

The NFL should add another 6 games for lying like a rug. What a tool.

Last year was tough going to Levi but this year the place has been transformed. Week after week the Niner crowd has really roared and without a doubt has had an adverse effect on opponents.
So far the Chickens game, which set an attendance record there, has been the loudest, but every week it is rocking. Green Bay always travel well so we will see how that looks but the Niners have really turned out well and I look forward to losing my voice again on Sunday. It’s a great time to be a Niner fan again!
I’m with you Chuck, Niners by 10.

It is a great time to be a Niners fan. This team is exciting and should only get better for at least a few years

“NUTHIN FINER THAN BEING A FORTY NINER FAN!!”
I vision the 49ers defense to completely overwhelm the Packers&Rogers who’s no Lamar Jackson,Russell Wilson are Patrick Mahomes when it comes to be mobile enough to scramble around.Main WR Devante Adams hasn’t even grabbed a TD all year and that will continue! Watch out for Deebo Samuels to have a huge game, he’s coming in hot with 2 straight good games and clearly has taken over as a go to weapon over the Bourne’s,Pettis ,Goodwin’s of the world..49ers rock 34-13!!!

  10. Winder says:

I kinda think this ones gonna come down to a field goal and Gould is not gonna play. I still think we take this one mostly because of our defense and Jimmy if he gets on a roll is pretty unstoppable.

Capt Satellite would make an appearance at the old Laurel Theatre in San Carlos. He would hang around the concession counter in his Space Suit outfit talking with kids.Usually a food drive thing, you bring in a can of soup are other non perishable item, you got in free, parents dug that shit, dumping their kids off for free for a few hours to get errands done…

  12. alleykat69 says:

Kittle has a broken bone in his ankle, but he’s gutting it out and will play tonight. How effective who knows? But he’s one tough dude,so I expect results..

  13. unca_chuck says:

I guess we’ll see about Kittle. Haven’t heard about Sanders.

  14. alleykat69 says:

Heard Sanders like Kittle will gut it out.
“So tape them tight and let em fight!”

  15. 12th man says:

Packers always travel well, and if the hotel is any indication they have today.
    Go Niners!!!
