Mainly because they have earned it. Sure it’s preseason, but it’s kinda cool that the 49er defense has yet to allow a touchdown in 2 games. The D gets Blair and Jones back, and we have not seen Nick Bosa, Kwon Alexander, and Dee Ford. We even got a pick last week. So, things look pretty good for the defense.
That being said, I think we are a little passive with the corners. So far, we are playing bend but don’t break and it maddens me some. Witherspoon and Sherman are regularly playing 8-10 yards off the WRs and Witherspoon gets a LOT of underneath shit thrown his way. The short zone also gives up a lot of short passes that lead to 1st down.
My hope is the bolstered pass rush forces quicker releases and some picks, but we must wait.
On offense, team ALWAYS jam our WRs at the line and this is why we never get quick separation and easy underneath passes. With no blocking, medium-range pass plays take too long to develop, and Jimmy/BDN/Beater is picking his teeth up along with trying to hold on to the football. So, the conundrum remains.
Better blocking by the o line and a better pass rush, this team will go places. If not, it’s gonna be another long season.
In some possibly good news, Trent Taylor may be ready for game 1. He’s a very solid guy who manages to get open. But he needs to stay on the field.
Get me the right helmet and I’ll join the Niners and drop passes for you guys every week!
All eyes are gonna be on Jimmy G and trent seems to be one of his go to guys so hopefully he returns because I doubt he plays in game 4
i guess I should have known Taylor is questionable for game 1. I gotta say I don’t think we are ready as a team to do much this year. I am thinking 6-10.
maybe even 5-11
Feeling a little bit more positive Winder.
7-9, maybe 8-8?
Not feeling any better about things York related.
yeah, my original estimate was 8-8 but unless they show something tonight i really don’t like our chances this year. It still seems like so many positions are still fragile and that’s really why i think like that.
It’s the offense that needs to perform this year. Waiting and seeing at this point.
yeah, the McKinnon project has turned out to be a total failure, Breida is a great back but he is injury prone too. It’s pretty much all on Jimmy right now we got some real weapons at WR and he had to use them. The other big problem is our Oline they have to come through otherwise we are toast.
The chron says this game is a big test for Jimmy, will he be able to stand in the pocket and take that hit. Will his passes be more accurate. Hopefully he does not feel the pressure to perform like last year and get hurt again. And the other thing I have been hearin is the Niners wasted there pick with Bosa. Already injured and has not played in a real game. He is very good when healthy.
When has he had the chance to PLAY in a real game?
Kinda shady no….?
Blow or no blow.

On the road in West TX but listening, against KC first half they more than held their own it seems.
Andrew Luck retiring according to Adam Schefter
ust saw that. Shocking. I suspect he’ll come bck when healthy in about a year, but still. Tough news. He;s such a likable guy.
Kevin, the season hasn’t started and Bosa is a waste? We aren’t playing him because he isn’t worth the risk. Like Fred Dean, he comes in to go after the QB. We’ll see, but he is needed as we see tonight. The D looks OK but there’s still no consistent pressure.
Good news is Jimmy G looks much better. He stared down a couple guys, but he also made some nice reads. The O line looked much improved against a solid defense. A couple nive runs by Brieda. And like I keep saying I still don’t suspect that McKinnon ever plays a down for us.
Al_Shaair looking pretty good at LB.
Guessing Kaep wont be on the Irsay radar huh?
Now that’s funny. You’d think someone at some point will take the plunge.
I think Luck wants to get out from under the Colts.
Of course he won’t say that but he’ll sit out the season, void his deal and sign somewhere else in 2020.
Glad to see our offense do some things yesterday. You can tell we are a still run the ball first team. i am sure everything we’ve seen is probably straight vanilla but it was nice to see anyway.
This is a playoff team IF key positions stay healthy: QB, TE, RB, EDGE, CB.
That game last night was the closest thing you will ever get in preseason to playoff football. Mahomes outdueled Jimmy G. while he was in, getting a TD and a FG in his two drives. Meanwhile, Jimmy G. was good but not great and got a TD in his first three drives during Mahomes’ time (later adding 2 FGs to close out the half).
Our edge rushers were not playing. Big deal. Kittle wasn’t playing. Taylor wasn’t playing. IDK about the Chiefs, but we were missing some key pieces.
A good game against a very good team and a great QB on the road. Richie James, Jr. is a monster.
—————————————————–
10-6, a wildcard berth, and a win in the wildcard round.
WRs:
Goodwin
Hurd
James
Matthews
Pettis
Samuel
Taylor
Matthews will likely be released when Taylor returns.
Interior line as well. Yeah I think Matthews is odd man out.
Geez yeah I omitted it. Interior line was right behind Jimmy G.’s health.
We’ll be as useless as Chuck’s beer belly after another Niners blowout loss in Seattle
As useless goes, you are the master. Well played.
Classless Colt fans booing Andrew Luck over his announced retirement.. That whole organization can go f… themselves never drafting a competent OL during his career..
I agree it was pretty tasteless but Luck probably had this in his mind for at least a few weeks or more and he waits till a week before the season. The Colts were figured in to be strong contenders and some even though they had a shot at the SB. And all of a sudden their team is in the crapper. i can understand some of the frustration that ran through the fans heads. The timing of it truly sucked.
Might be possible…. Irsay was told, and….. didn’t remember too. 😀
Gotta account for medicinal side effects in the Land of Irsay.
Always a fog on final approach at that airport.
Then there’s this……

That makes a little more sense
It’s a decision that effects the whole picture. The Colts defense has come into its own and were projected to be one of the best in the league. Now they will do what the Niners defense has done for years and that’s to stay on the field so long they will be beat up by midseason. I know that it is the same as if Luck would have been hurt right off the bat but the whole thing stinks for their organization.
I wonder if Luck will get death threats from the people who put big money on him or the colts this year. I know if I had him in any money league i would be pissed.
New thread is up.
