These Are the Times that Try Men’s Souls

Well, at least bore the shit out of them. As hard as Jolly Roger wants to keep football in the mind’s eye 24/7/365, now is the time for nothing. Mel Kiper’s head hasn’t even been exhumed and attached to a Disney automatron president and propped in front of a desk at ESPN headquarters.

Sure, we can keep up the QWillimas/Bosa/Sweat/Josh Allen talk, because that is what we got now. We WILL get a pass rusher with our first pick. It just depends on where that pick is. We do have a thin batch of picks this draft, and that kinda sucks. One thing Baalke was able to do was round up a lot of picks. Sure, he fucked them all sideways,  but we stand here with 6 picks instead of the bounty we have been used to.

So, trading out is high on the list of to-do’s for John Lynch. If we can trade down and still get our guy (likely Sweat or Allen) then more power to them. This of course is predicated on the Giants and Raiders needing to deal with us or AZ.

If you believe the hype, AZ is all about Murray. Going so far as to floating Josh Rosen for a 1st round pick. Seeing as that is a complete non-starter, the whole thing may be just a smokescreen to draw the Giants into a desperate trade to get Kyler.

As it is for me, I’d like to see us grab:

  1. Pass rusher/edge guy
  2. WR
  3. Safety
  4. TE
  5. O line
  6. CB

If we can finagle picks out of NYG or Oak, go for it.

Yeah, the NFL sure does stretch this crap out. I imagine someone must like all this ‘suspense’ but not me. You always have your die-hard-drunk Jets fans at the draft no matter where it’s held plus every armchair GM that thinks they know something no one else does. They probably like the wait but who knows, we are all at the mercy of the mighty NFL

  2. Always Changing It Up says:

    Very insightful, Chuck!!

  3. unca_chuck says:

Thanks, skippy. Hey my list might change. I’d beg out of the TE at 3 if there’s something better available (CB). It’s called adapting with a moving target.

I must say I never got anything close when Baalke was drafting, but I feel like these guys are more in tune with reality instead of by-the-book BPA. Not that that means I’m gonna get this right, but it makes me feel like they will.

    • Winder says:

I never got it right with Baalky either. I guess i got it when Buckner fell to us but that was just luck that he lasted so long.

  4. 12th man says:

If its not an april fools gag the Niners have traded for Julio Jones

  5. 12th man says:

And yes its an April Fools joke…

  6. unca_chuck says:

    Didn’t see that one.

  7. Julio Jones says:

Don’t even joke about that! That’s my worst nightmare, being stuck playing in an ex-junkyard next to Great America

  8. unca_chuck says:

What has Julio won with the Falcons, skippy? Zip. Zilch. nada. He’s won as much as you at the race track. You done mucking the stalls at GGF?

  9. unca_chuck says:

Keep sending them up, and I’ll keep shooting them down, dingleberry.

  10. rtfirefly says:

Too bad about the AAF. Spurrier and Sing had a good team.

  11. unca_chuck says:

Really? Was the football decent? Didn’t know the teams, the times, or where they played.

Poor NoFear has no football to watch now. Ba ha ha . . .

    • rtfirefly says:

The Orlando Apollos had a horrible name, but they played solid well-coached minor league football. It’s really hard, though, to put truly exciting football for the modern fan on the field with NFL castoffs at QB.

  12. unca_chuck says:

Charlie Ebersol? He must be the kid of Dick Ebersol, the NBC TV guy. Bill Polian of course we all know. Huh.

  13. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, the NFL has college as the feeder for players. There isn’t enough elite talent to support more teams let alone an entire league.

Around the Bay area, I sure didn’t hear anything about the league.

  14. Winder says:

I thought it was a pretty good idea if for nothing else maybe some players could bounce back. But without people in the seats, and TV money it was bound to crap out.

  16. unca_chuck says:

Wow. That’s fucked up. Makes the guys running the show look like fools.

Funny thing is, my wife does temporary housing. Mainly corporate, but she’s put up Gregor Blanco, Hunter Strickland, Brandon Crawford, a couple A’s, and a couple Raiders including Malcolm Smith, over the years. Got to meet Blanco a few years ago.

  17. rtfirefly says:

    The AFL had Joe Namath.
The USFL had Herschel Walker and Steve Young.
    The AAF had Johnny Manziel.

    ‘Nuff said

  18. unca_chuck says:

Johnny $$$ couldn’t even cut it in the CFL.

  19. rtfirefly says:

The team I fell in love with was Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green. They were champions then defeated.

Teams adjusted and they added Kevin Durant. They were champions twice more, but I couldn’t love the KD team as much.

Then they added Boogie Cousins, 5 All-Star lineup. Losing, fight between KD and Draymond, KD leaving?, Steph looked like he wanted to be anywhere else, Boogie sucked. They brought back Andrew Bogut from their first championship team.

It’s April, playoff time. Livingston and Iggy have 3 rings each to show they’ve been there and are there. The Warriors are a sleeping giant just now waking up. They look like your sister growing up when she’s having a real, real bad day. Run. Run fast. This team is fucking great.

  20. unca_chuck says:

After a season of malaise and some incredibly bad losses they are rounding out nicely.

Heard Kerr the other day say, yeah, these guys didn’t lose like this 3 years ago. They are getting older. Sustaining te excellence they have been at for 4 years and a thousand playoff games is tough. There are games that they just are out of gas.

  21. unca_chuck says:

    Ahhh good times.

  22. unca_chuck says:

Thing is, I think maybe 3 of those plays were designed runs.

    • Winder says:

Nice, I kinda forget how quick he was. He made some of those runs look easy and you know every defender was out to get him.

    • unca_chuck says:

Yeah, pretty amazing that in all those runs he never really got clocked. And yeah, you know guys out there wanted to lay him out.

  23. Berger says:

I would go with Bosa for our first pick. Juan Thornhill with the 2nd.

    • Winder says:

If Bosa is there at 2 I think we take him. I don’t see anyone giving us a deal that we can’t refuse.

  24. unca_chuck says:

The raiders don’t want to deal with us

Sweat’s 4.41 is pretty insane. We could trade with the Giants and get him pretty easily. I’m with y’all though. It would be hard to pass up Bosa/Williams if there.

Qnd I could see us taking a flier on a center with our 5th (6th) pick, or UDFA one.

    • Winder says:

Teams are really gonna have to do their homework on Sweat’s heart condition. But he does have some great Numbers and shouldn’t last too long.
