After a flurry of activity during (well, before) the free agency period started, the rest of it has seen no activity. That being said, we HAVE been inviting guys over to the facility to kick their proverbial feet in the interest of drafting them next month.
Josh Allen, a guy much touted by me, is stopping by to visit with the 49er brass, among all the other teams in the top 6 spots, as a precursor to draft day. He of course had 220 tackles, 31.5 sacks, and 11 forced fumbles in his 42 games. For a defense that forced very few turnovers, as well as generate sacks, he has to be a guy high on their radar.
The thing is, they could very well trade out of the 2 spot (with the Raiders or Giants) and get him. The Raiders have 1st round picks to burn, so the impetus would be to squeeze their collective giblets (or the Giants) for a big haul.
They met with Nick Bosa last Wednesday. No more needs to be said about him that has already been hashed and rehashed. He’s either the best pass rusher available, or a bust and a half.
They also met with Quinnen Williams last week. This is the guy I think we should get. While AA is solid inside, I think they very well could move him back outside and plug QWilliams in the interior. We are also getting Kentavius Street back and he is healthy the last I heard. Be nice to have a solid and deep line that can be rotated in and out without much let-down.
We worked out TE Josh Oliver from right down 101 at SJ State. He came on his junoir and senior seasons to rack up 91 catches for 1,006 yards and 5 TDs. He looks like a great red zone option at 6’5″ and 250 lb. Good blocker as well. We could prolly get him in the 3rd round.
They also worked out TE Chris Gragg. Not sure why, other than he’s been hurt most of his career, and we seem to gravitate to those kinds of players.
Yeah, I’m waiting for something to happen but it is a quiet as I can remember right now. Other teams are doing things but we must still be in the assessment mode. I guess between pro days and one on one meetings we should gather the info that we need. I still don’t know what I want em to do. Every mock I have see nabs us Bosa.
Kingsbury was asked today if the Cards had decided who they were drafting #1. He replied, “Coaches and scouts are all out on the road. We won’t even discuss it till next week. Everything is on the table.”
Whole lotta nothing.
I actually don’t give a rat’s ass about the Whiners and I’d much rather get drafted by a real NFL team. I just met with the team so I could get hooked up with free pancakes.
I see the looney bin has given you your internet privileges back.
Our opener is hosting the Cards on the late MNF game.
Oops, just a rumor.
I think it would be an interesting draw to have us host Cleveland.
I’d make us a Home Dog for that one.
Where did you hear that?
Winning the offseason means little, NJ. I’ll believe the Browns when I see them actually do something.
I get the frustration, NJ, but really if you look at the team last year, they were undermanned, not out-schemed. At least on offense. We were down to our 3rd QB, our 4th and 5th RBs, and had no WR help to speak of. Defensively we were a mess. The problems there were pass rush and coverage. With a pass rush, coverage improves, and Saleh did simplify things toward the end of the season.
If anyone is on the hot seat it should be Saleh. If Shanny can make Mullens look good, we should be ok with Jimmy G. It is all about staying healthy, and getting pressure on the opposing QB. . McKinnon is a prayer at this point. I like our depth at RB now though. Little is a bona fide threat that needs protection that at least Matthews will help some. Goodwin also needs to stay on the field. All Jed needs to do is shut up and write checks. Dog Lynch and Shanahan as you must, but looking at the Kelly-led team compared to this one, if you can’t tell the improvement, then you have every right to vent.
Yeah, we are kinda like the Browns right now. And yeah, it ain’t shit till it is proven on the field, but I think we should be 10-6. Otherwise we are in deep doo doo yet again. We HAVE shown flashes of solid play these last couple seasons. I just think we are building a solid foundation for the future.
Weren’t you just mocking Skeebers for picking a 10-6 record? You delusional dork, your wires are all crossed.
No, you stupid fucking shit stain, I was giving him shit fort pissing and moaning all last season about how shitty the team and the front office was, and he backs it up by predicting 10-6.
Get it? Of course not. The best part of you dripped out your mom’s ass. Go back to skeebies and hide, chickenshit cracker.
I don’t know what the yardstick will be as far as wins and losses. I would like to see us at least get to 8-8. Anything over that would be gravy. It’s to early to tell just how the team is gonna look but I know the motivation and attitude is there the players are gonna have to play better that’s all.
I think 9-7 is the low bar. They really need to show imorovement across the board.
Chuck I’m a die-hard like many here.
Frustrations are magnified for me everytime I hear Jed spewing football rhetoric.
Yeh, it’s his team, his prerogative etc.
All I equate it to is, the clowns Danny and Jerruh,
2 lanes for me.
1 lane belongs to football Ops.
1 lane belongs to Ownership.
Stay in your lane.
You parrot my point perfectly. Write the checks. Stay away Jed.
Frankly Jed HAS been in the shadows lately and not talking, and that is fine. Next time I hear him it’ll hopefully be when he’s lifting the Lombardi.
It may not be this year, but I think the ‘football guys’ are doing fine. The turnover in the roster from Jan 2018 to now is likely at 7o%. This isn’t any quick fix.
Maiocco had to put him on the record from the Owners meetings. Just sent me into a rant.
He’s an idiot. Hes also the Owner. (Unfortunately)
Just hoping he isn’t the next coming of Jerruh, which he reminds me of all too often.
No surprise regarding roster turnover. Totally expected under regime changes. Problem is, we’ve had too many of them too.
Hence my reasons for acquiring additional Picks, as a means to that end.
Picks are how you buy the young talent. When you’re in the top end of that process, you always want to entertain offers IMO.
NJ- I wouldn’t mind trading back either. We do need to get an edge out of this one but the whole world thinks that Bosa is a lock. I can’t remember a time when there wasn’t an element of surprise with our 1st pick.
Agree Winder, Bosa is the consensus ‘Flavor of the Year’ and all but….
Clowney was in the same spot not long ago. He couldn’t, and hasn’t stayed healthy enough to warrant all that hype. He’s been saved, somewhat, by the arrival of JJ.
Again, I like the long-armed Edge guys. Bosa doesn’t possess the wingspan and, doesn’t impress me as a speed guy.
Allen is an OLB and, probably the better athlete IMO.
My dark horse, if they gamble and slide down, is Rashan Gary from Michigan or, Clelin Ferrell from Clemson.
I like Quinnen above all of them but, he’s an inside guy that happened to convert from DE at ‘Bama.
Point is, there’s a great number of options this year to take a chance with.
After all, it’s all a crap shoot. Why not take some extra Picks, if someone is willing to offer them?
Omenihu and Sweat were the long-armed winners in Indy.
All comes down to the guy they feel comfortable with when it’s time to turn in the card.
All I can do is play along and guess like everyone else.
Sweat is the terror of the bunch. Freak in all categories by comparison.
Montez Sweat Mississippi St.
6056/260 4.41/40 21 Reps 7.00/3-Cone 36″ Vert 10-5 Broad
10 1/2″ Hand 35 3/4″ Arms
Hard to predict where he”ll end up due the medical they uncovered in Indy.
Clownery’s been a beast the last two years, NJ. JJ’s been the one always hurt.
•Clowney
Yeah I like Sweat too NJ,but a guy with a dicey ticket is a major red flag especially in the NFL. I see him dropping down the board maybe even 2nd Rd, could end up a steal for the vultures like the Patriots to snatch up the way they always are one step ahead of alot teams on draft day!
PI non-calls are now reviewable. Little late.
No shit. I’ve been advocating for that for 6 years now. If a penalty is going to be that damaging, they need to get it right. ALL personal fouls or Unsportsmanlike penalties should be reviewed.
I bet New Orleans is spitting fire right about now.
Isn’t Sean Peyton on that committee along with Bellicheat?
That’s one rule worth delaying a game for. We needed that one for that 83 game in Washington.
Arrrrrggghhh!
It’s all PI/non-PI calls.
There’s no “clear and obvious” standard. This will probably change.
Last 2 minutes is auto. No challenge flag required.
I “think” that’s what Drew Blandino just said.
•Dean
Man I always want that big WR like T.O that can just out physical DB for the ball and the we need get the YAC. So after we draft Bosa, yeah he’s my pick to unleash hell with Ford on the other side these are my WR options for hopefully the 2nd pick and yeah some will be off the board..
DK Metcalf 6’4 237lbs Chiseled body like TO,this guy is a beast!
Hakeem Nicks 6’5 228lbs explosive, has been linked to the 49ers in some drafts
Miles Boykins 6’3 218lbs? 43.5 vertical big hands and impressive 40 times, he is my sleeper pick and moving up boards
there’s more I want to look at but I would gladly take one of these 3 if available in the 2nd
That could very well happen, we took one in the 2nd last year and we still need the big guy.
Yeah Winder, this class is deep in WR’s especially ones with size.I want Jimmy G to have one to salivate over!
Here’s another WR getting high praise for his great route running ,size 6’3 218 lbs played both in the slot and wide last year, bench pressed 225lb 17 times same as Metcalf ran a 4:53 to Metcalf’s crazy 4:33 but can still seperate with his strength and precision routes and his name is K’Neal Harry from Arizona St, one scout likes him overall better then both the Ole Miss receivers Brown& Metcalf highpraise indeed…
Metcalf’s dad grandfather and uncle all played in the NFL, but he’s coming off a broken neck.
We’d prolly have to trade up into the 1st to get him as well. He’ll og aroun 18-25 I’d think.
Yeah I see Metcalf 1st off the board, and what’s are 2nd pick #36? There’s 3 that could slide in for us I would still like ..Nicks,Harry&Boykin all have the size& weight,Harry is super strong in the weight room can bench the same as Metcalf, plus he’s a superb blocker as well! So after Metcalf which I doubt the 49ers would move up for, I would go Harry,Boykin are Nicks in that order..
Yeah our picks are:
1 – 2
2 – 36
3 – 67
4 – 104
6 – 176
6 – 212 (comp pick)
That TE Oliver from SJS looks good too. 6’5, 250 lb. Wouldn’t mind getting him in the 3rd.
Yeah Chuck just looking at Josh Oliver, and theirs alot to like.6’5 249lbs 34 vertical,.4.63 40 Bench Press 22 and know wonder he can snag most footballs his way 10.63 Hand measurements!! That’s hands down(no pun intended) the largest set of mitts among TE’s
Could make a nice compliment piece with Kittle for sure.
Benjamin Allbright tweeted today:
“Time move Kyler Murray to AZ at #1 from pencil to pen.”
I should be pumped, but Murray scares me. Rosen doesn’t scare me at all. It would clear the track for the Bosa Express.
Walterfootball now has us picking QW.
I just don’t get it Williams.Yes he’s talented and all, but he plays a position that’s already stacked. You have, Buckner,AA,Thomas all inside then add another with Williams?
When the clear need is Bosa to rush with Ford to create “Unleash Hell” on QB’s
Quinnen bulked up at ‘Bama to get himself into the DL rotation Alleykat.
Saban has such a deep roster, that many of these talented kids rarely see action, until the top tier guys move on.
Williams was a DE who couldn’t see playing time so, he put on weight to move inside.
Give me a guy that requires a double team any day of the week, regardless where he lines up.
AA would move outside.
At least they appear to be keeping things interesting…..
https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/49ers/nfl-draft-prospect-montez-sweat-says-hell-visit-49ers-four-other-teams
This kid is a freak. 4.41 at 260lbs?
Yikes.
Also, as noted in this piece, they worked with him for the week in Mobile, along with Ferguson, who didn’t make it to Indy.
S-E-L-L 😀
I’m pretty much finished with the TE list for this year –

Charles Omenihu hits my long-arm preference (36″). Turned in a 36.5″ Vert too
He sucked in the 40 (4.92) but, he’s 20lbs (280) heavier than Sweat (260).
I’d give Omenihu a shot if he gets beyond RD3.
Forgot Brian Burns (FSU)
Burns (33) – 123/38.5/23
Chuck says he wants a TE in the third round now? He’s been clamoring for a WR in the third round for weeks. Typical flip flopping liberal
Oooh. Good one. NoFear. How goes the trolling for Putin? You get paid in rubles?
Better yet, go hassle Skeebies blog. Oh that’s right. You already do.
No K’Neal Harry or Metcalf, NJ?
Harry at least we have a shot at getting in the 2nd round.
Neck injuries are off limits with me Chuck.
Butler over Harry, better speed.
Harry
#2 in contested catches % (Jennings #1)
I like both K’Neal Harry&Hakeem Butler for that pick in the 2nd either one has big-time playmaking potential to me.Good route runners, size& strength, think both more polished and can contribute right away under Shanny’s system..
President Trump has been TOTALLY EXONERATED of any common sense so you guys should be grateful fascists like No Fear, Skeebers, and Bullit are taking the time out of their busy day of making Russia great again to discuss election rigging on a blog like the Outsider that isn’t full football talk.
Nope, not what Mueller’s report said. Keep dreamin’. How much are your traitorous rubles worth these days?
Oh Dennis. If Trump had his way, you would be rounded up and shot with all the other crazy people.
Says you. Re-election next year

You left wing ding-a-ling, Trump has been cleared of any and all wrongdoing. Wish the same could be said about you and your heinous comment editing and your constant flip flopping on your draft picks.
Nope. Not what Mueller’s report said. Nice try, traitor.
AZ brass having (had) dinner with Bosa tonight in FL.
FYI, I have just posted another important link on the Niners Outsider.
You should follow the lead of your avatar and stfu! New thread is up.
