Who Do We Get? Who Do They Get?

The draft as it stands now. Top 10 picks.

1 Cardinals 3 13 0 0.188 0.5273
2 49ers 4 12 0 0.250 0.5039
3 Jets 4 12 0 0.250 0.5059
4 Raiders 4 12 0 0.250 0.5469
5 Bucs 5 11 0 0.313 0.5234
6 Giants 5 11 0 0.313 0.5273
7 Jaguars 5 11 0 0.313 0.5488
8 Lions 6 10 0 0.375 0.5039
9 Bills 6 10 0 0.375 0.5234
10 Broncos 6 10 0 0.375 0.5234

The scenarios I see are:

  1. AZ picks Murray. We pick QW. Jets get Bosa. Raiders get Haskins. Bucs take Josh Allen, NYG take DT Ed Oliver. Jags take OL. Lions, who cares? LB? Bills get DL. Broncos take the most viable QB left. Daniel Jones.
  2.  AZ picks Bosa. We trade with the Giants who take Murray. Jets get QWilliams. Raiders take Josh Allen. We get Rashan Gary (or Oliver). the rest is the same.
  3. AZ trades with the Raiders who get Murray. We pick Bosa. Jets get QW. AZ gets Josh Allen. Bucs get Rashan Gary. NYG gets Haskins.

Something like that. I just don’t think we pass on Bosa.

Two things though (among a million others):

  • We are supposedly high as hell on QWilliams
  • The Giants are NOT high on Haskins

I thought keeping AA meant we would go with Bosa, but getting Dee Ford leans us toward QW. A good problem to have is line depth. Who can forget the rotation days of yore under George Seifert? Keeping guys fresh for 4th quarter dominance was a staple of those underrated defenses of the 80s.

Ford has an injury history. Our sack leader from the edge last year was Marsh with his whopping 5.5, and he’s gone. Ford gets hurt, we rush who exactly?

  2. Winder says:

I think we should trade out if possible, we can still get a good edge rusher if we have a top 10 pick. I don’t really like Bosa since he has already shown he is injury prone. I don’t think we will get the chance to move out though. I don’t really want Williams either though even though he might be the best player in the draft. All I do know is that Lynch has to hit it out of the park this year. Otherwise, there will be questions about our FO and scouting dept, and rightly so.

  3. unca_chuck says:

I think we stand to have a fairly decent shot at moving out of the 2 pick. I just don’t think we can afford to pass up on either one of Bosa or QW. Trade out and get Allen?

Sure. We just need to pass rush about 90% better than last year.

    • Winder says:

To be honest I don’t think either one of those guys are a guaranteed pick. Sure we gotta get way better at getting to the QB but we also need quite a few other things.

    • unca_chuck says:

No one is a guarantee, but our biggest need by far is pass rush.

A pass rush creates 3-and-outs. A pass rush creates turnovers. A pass rush disrupts the other team’s offense. We are good enough at stopping the run. We need to do much better at stopping the pass.

      • Winder says:

Chuck you are right about no guarantee’s but every once in awhile you just know. Kinda like Patrick Willis for some reason I don’t feel it for either of those guys. But then I never get the draft right.

    Niners Nation

    @NinersNation

The 49ers are having a late lunch with Nick Bosa today. Oh, and they’re also meeting him for dinner later tonight.

    C’mon up …Pick 2 for sale?

And while almost anything could happen between now and draft day, the team showing Haskins the most love these days remain the Giants. Indeed, after taking Haskins to dinner last night prior to the pro day, Giants’ head coach Pat Shurmur was the first to talk with him at the end of the workout. Later Shurmur described the workout as ‘excellent’, while praising Haskins as an ‘accomplished and impressive young man’. ’’ In fact, despite reports in the past week that the Giants were not all that interested in Haskins, they had a 10-man party in Columbus today which also included Senior Vice President of player personnel Chris Mara, Kevin Abrams, vice president of football operations and assistant general manager; and Chris Pettit, director of college scouting. However, the Giants aren’t the only team with at least some interest in Haskins as he set up at least 4 other private visits including those with Oakland, Miami, Denver and Washington, each of whom has a top 15 pick this coming April.

    • NJ49er says:

      Picks by those Teams –
      NY GIANTS 6, 17 37 95 108, 132 142, 143, 171c 180 232, 245
      OAKLAND/VEGAS 4, 24, 27 35 106 140 218, 235
      MIAMI 13 48 78 116 151 233, 234
      DENVER 10 41 71 113, 125 148, 156 182 237

Also read a convoluted report of Trade talks with Philly. Nothing of substance, possible player deal. McKinnon? Armstead/Thomas? No way to make sense of it. Too vague.

  6. NJ49er says:

Think I’m gonna stick with these options for WRs – Any of these Slot guys would look good with Welker. Isabella could be a hotter commodity than many think. Pretty durable and a Track guy.
    Nifty little weapon potential IMO.

  7. Flavor says:

Fuck Bosa, he’d be a huge mistake. Trade down and draft Josh Allen. Full stop.

    • NJ49er says:

      Agree Flavor
No Bosa for me either. He could be a bargaining chip too, if a QB isn’t.
      S-E-L-L slot 2

  8. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, I could see us trading out of the 2 and getting Allen/Gary. The impetus being the haul we get for that 2. Still think Bosa is going to be something special. That being said, I think QWilliams is the BPA for us. We have Ford, and Street is a ? but if it works out, we’d be set.

  9. unca_chuck says:

As far as WRs go, we have enough slot WRs (James, Taylor) as it stands now. We need an X. A true #1 guy.

Jordan Matthews is intriguing as he was strong 1a (next to TE Ertz) a couple years ago (997 yards in 2016) with the Eagles. When he went to the Bills, he fell off the map. Will he work out as the go-to guy? I guess we’ll see, but I’d like us to get someone in the 2nd round.

NJ, do you think DK Metcalf will be available with the 36th pick? 6’4″ 230 and ran a 4.33 with a 40″ vertical leap? I don’t. No after his combine performance.

    • NJ49er says:

I’m guessing DK is gone early Chuck.
      Top 20?
I didn’t consider him at all, simply because he broke his neck, literally. Too risky IMO.
I think Matthews gives support to Kittle now.
Would like to see us add Deebo, Campbell or Isabella. Welker is the perfect mentor for them IMO.
Would love to steal Hakeem on the cheap.

  10. unca_chuck says:

Game 1 – Norm Snead? Hardman makes an appearance at 2:15.

  11. rtfirefly says:

New Mexico St. Aggies with the world class choke. That guy’s got a lifetime of memory.

  12. rtfirefly says:

Lynch is visiting or has visited QW and Bosa back east. Not going to visit Allen.

The one good thing about a rotten season. Pre-draft is a blast.

    • Winder says:

yeah but it’s taking for freaking ever to get here. If the draft were tomorrow they would know what they wanted to do. But it’s still a month away and the bullshit is gonna fly for every stinkin day of it. I think they should have had the draft this week right after the initial FA period and start OTA’s in the first week of April.

  13. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, well the players association put the kibosh on extended training camps.

  14. rtfirefly says:

QW’s dinner with the Niners brass was at a Tuscaloosa IHOP. Good for him!

  15. unca_chuck says:

    That’s fine dining in Tuscaloosa.

    • rtfirefly says:

Bacon, eggs, sausage, hash browns & flapjacks… Works for me!

      • Winder says:

Sounds good to me. Eat like that when you are young because when you get older that’s about as bad as doing dope.

  16. unca_chuck says:

Hey, nothing wrong with a big breakfast. For dinner.
