Hope all is well with youse guys out in 49ers bloggerland. The 49ers somehow snuck back into 2nd place in the running for the 2019 draft, and even #1 if the improbable happens (AZ beats Seattle on the road), and we lose to the Lambs on the road.
Well, our loss is all but guaranteed as the Rams are playing for home-field, the other games that would determine their fate are happening at the same time, and the Seahawks will more than likely rest their starters as their game has no bearing on their playoff position.
So, a possible perfect storm of events could still land us in the top spot. Which, I’m nearly sorry to say, will be spent on yet another defensive lineman. An edge rusher to be specific. Nick Bosa is the consensus choice, but he needs to prove to the league, and to the Niners, that he is fully recovered from his core tear, or whatever the fuck happened to him. A strange injury that either is:
a) no big deal
or
b) a possible career threatening injury that he may never recover from
I’m sure by the combine and pro days we’ll have a ssense how he’s doing, but it is still a little worrisome to pick a guy so high that could be damaged goods.
The bummer for SF is that there isn’t a very strong QB draft class, and the one guy who HAS value, Justin Herbert from Orygun has declared for his senior year and will not be coming out. This causes all sorts of commotion, mainly in that we can’t trade out of the top of the draft should someone throw desperation picks at us should AZ not trade out.
The other QBs rated worth a damn are Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins and Duke’s Daniel Jones, but no one is touting them as #1’s by any means. So, it looks like a strong possibility that we miss out on Bosa, and can’t even trade out of the #2 spot.
I’d bet that since there’s no QBs on the board worth a damn, we get another DT, Quinnen Williams. Bye Bye AA. Although I will say we very well could go with Josh Allen from Kentucky. He is an excellent edge rusher and also covers well. We are down a linebacker with reuben Foster of course being on the purgatory list, and cut besides, so that remains a possibility.
There are a few teams that need a QB desperately and it is still early enough that a QB could emerge from some of the bowl games and create some excitement. What I don’t like about Bosa is the fact that he quit on his team. I know he was hurt but the way he did it doesn’t set to well with me. Anyway, I still hope that Mullens can come up with a gem and stuff those fucking Rams. The worse we can do is pick #5.
It’s all about pieces that fit in slots Lynch can predict.
DE Jaylon Ferguson LA Tech, LB Devin White LSU, just to throw 2 out there, are pieces that fit.
Neither is top 10.
Very good depth in the front 7.
Need to identify who/where. Go from there.
Sell, if you can get extra picks, and still get the guys you target.
I tried to find an update on Bosa, nada, nothing, so he will remain a mystery till the columbine? So much is put on the 1 draft pick, why, so many failures as well as successes.
I have zero problem with Bosa’s decision. Because Ohio State rode him to all the glory he provided them. In return he got room and board, an education, and an injury. He’s trying to get himself right. Yeah, I looked for info on Bosa as well, but nothing is there. So we wait till the combines and such.
I’ve seen enough of Joey Bosa to know he isn’t even close to Aldon.
At this point, given the depth at DE, Baby Bosa is a hype indicator.
He is Draft sensation like RG III IMO.
Quinnen is an upgrade over Arik at least.
Would compliment DeFo and might give Thomas somewhat of a boost.
Thinking a deal of Jimmy to recoup Cap Coin would make DeFo payment easier and, could leave money available to keep Arik and maybe buy a #1 WR or CB.
Curious to see how Lynch plays this one.
He coulda got Thomas much lower than 3 IMO.
Bears gave him Foster.
Whiff.
He needs more Picks and, to play the Board better, if buyers come knocking again.
We can make a killing if slot 2 becomes valuable.
Daddy Bosa knows what current Contracts are worth vs what he saw in his era.
He lasted 3yrs.
Bosa Inc.
Pass.
Could Lynch pass Jimmy off to Miami?
Keep Ross on speed dial when Draft time comes…
You’ll definitely get the number zero pick when I dismantle your pathetic O-line and destroy your third stringer QB with the tiny sink.
Please do Aaron.
We actually want the loss.
But…thanks for play’n.
You’re not looking good with a road Playoff scenario.
Try as Roger might, to boost the Market for you, cracks are beginning to show in your bulletproof shell, if Gurley gets dinged.
From what I’ve seen, Nick has more ‘IT’ than Jimmy.
Kid has BALLS.
Keeper and….Cheaper.
I decided I’d rather stay in Oregon and continue to play college ball and get a degree than risk being drafted by the Niners and becoming an irrelevant nobody
Niners aren’t looking at you Justin.
Get with the program.
Christ….slow troll day?
NJ, there is no way on God’s green earth the 49ers are trading Garoppolo. They gave up a 2nd and paid him a king’s ransom. If he gets hurt, misses ALL of next year, and BDN leads the 49ers to the playoffs, then there stands the possibility that we would seek a trade at that point. The only guy we would trade at this point is The Beater, And we’d barely get a 5th for him.
I’m leaning towards Josh Allen as we aren’t going to get the 1 and AZ will trade out and we won’t get Bosa anyway.
Not sure about Bosa.
I agree with you 100% on QB’s, NJ is way off base on this one IMO.
Chuck it’s all about options.
Jimmy and Nick, by comparison, are equal in terms of experience.
Jimmy got paid because Belichick couldn’t get it done.
From a Cap perspective, Jimmy is putting a stranglehold on the Cap.
If, if, a deal could be made, deal Jimmy.
Nick is far better than CJ.
Miami, AFCE, would be quite attractive to Ross IMO.
If he offers something, take it.
Josh Allen isn’t worth Pick 2.
Sell if someone is willing to buy.
Quinnen is worth a 2 slot right now.
He’s better than anyone on our roster at this point.
It comes down to needs vs options.
That’s the thing. There’s no one other than Bosa that is generating any kind of buzz for a trade out of the top 3 spots. Without the #1 spot, there ain’t no trading out.
Beyond that we have interior linemen up the wazoo. I mean I wan’t sold on AA but he’s there. He’s not horrible, but he’s not great. We need speed off the edge and Allen broings that. it’s about fit at this point. Sure, we can dump AA, and draft Williams. If we do, that’ll be our 4th defensive lineman in the last 5 drafts.
And with guys like Allen, Ferguson, you have options. All outside of Bosa.
Use Bosa as deal bait.
This ain’t about QB deals this year.
Jimmy could be the QB worth dealing?
Keep an open ‘GM’ mind. 😀
If, if, if you dealt Jimmy, and freed up oodles of Cap space, you have extra Picks, extra cash, and extra options, beyond 1 Draft slot.
Pay DeFo, keep Arik, buy a #1 WR, maybe a CB?
Lot’s of options.
Will Lynch gamble…?
I would.
But, I’m just a Fan, with nothing to lose. 😀
Jimmy G. isn’t going anywhere.
Mostly because he’s damaged and expensive now.
But….Miami might be willing to have an ex-Patriot?
Worth a phone call with an AFCE Owner like Ross?
IMO, he coulda, shoulda, got more for the Trubiski deal.
One slot?
Pussies do that.
And, he got Thomas and Foster.
Meh….
At the time EVERYONE thought it was a steal that Lynch got Thomas and an extra pick for basically nothing.
Hindsight is always 20/20.
34, 23, 9, 16, 20, 19, 9
Offense points with Nick. Jimmy G. isn’t going anywhere.
Jimmy expensive.
Jimmy damaged.
Nick cheap.
Nick fearless.
Jimmy expensive.
Jimmy damaged.
Nick cheap.
Nick fearless.
Yikes..I stuttered somehow 😀
Jimmy 6-2
Nick 3-4
Jimmy damaged now.
Nick healthy.
I’d listen to offers RT.
ALL about business.
This coming draft board is nowhere near being set. There will be the usual combine spectaculars and a few who play their ass off in some of the bowls, pro days and workouts. i bet there are gonna be a handful of QB’s that are gonna draw some interest. If it’s possible I would trade out for more picks myself at this point. That is sure to be changing at least 100 times until the fucking draft.
Indeed it will Winder.
Focus on the pieces needed. Slot them and go for extra Picks if possible.
Whoever is available for us at 2, could be a chip to bargain over.
Jimmy, Nick are equal in terms of experience.
Nick wins by virtue of his Cap number.
If Jimmy could be sold over a rookie Draftee, take it.
Reposition on the Draft Board, to get guys you want, vs taking who’s there when you’re on the clock.
Plan ahead, listen to options, slide back if it makes sense.
NJ- Lol, I know football players about as well as I know horses. I rarely get it right, but I have fun trying.
Nothing wrong with trying Winder.
Gives us something to do.
The piece we need is ER. The second piece we need is ER. Possibly the third piece we need is ER.
The Niner D is dead last in the league in turnovers, and it ain’t even close. Last by a bunch. The Bears have 29 interceptions ALONE.
Edge rusher, edge rusher, edge rusher. Screw quantity; we got quantity.
Not even a 4-12 season is going to faze me today. A good day. A snow day. Most snow I’ve ever seen outside the mountains. A cozy fire a jug of wine and thou…
Hah! Sounds good, Rufus.
And don;t you forget it . . .
Snow day? You are in New Mexico, right, RTF?
Yeppers, almost ten years now. Seven years since I moved from 7000′ (where this amount of snow would be nothing) to 4000′.
NJ, no one is going to throw the bank at Jimmy G in a trade. He’s coming off a knee injury, and he’s the least experienced QB on our team when it comes to starts. We may have overpaid, but that was necessary at the time. We still have a ton of cap room, and the team is not even considering trading him. It would be foolhardy to bail on Garoppolo and go all-in on Mullens mainly because there’s little reason to do it. If Garoppolo leads an improved team to the playoffs, then we are on schedule.
If he doesn’t, we’ll have to see what we got at the end of next year.
You’ll have a mediocre Italian quarterback but you’ll have one who gets tons of porn star lovin’ and that’s all that matters
Wow. It must take all your metal capacity to come up with these gems.
Don’t quit your day loafing.
Agree Chuck. Jimmy was dealt with the express purpose of getting him into a positive position. No malous with Jimmy, simply making some favorable comparisons to what Nick has done.
Given the money, injury etc, highly doubt anyone would come calling but…..
Somewhat fun to see what happens next.
The way I see it is we finally have a couple of able QB’s that just might turn out to be special. I wouldn’t trade Jimmy or Mullens. It has just been to long since we’ve have guys who can read defenses and go through progressions. We just have to get the draft right this year. Turns out last years was a pretty good draft for us.
YUP
2 guys looking good today from UVA.
FS Juan Thornhill
OT Marcus Applefield
Playing in Belk Bowl.
Poor St. Jim gets waxed in yet another big game with his conservative offense and plodding D. Wonder how much longer he sticks around the Big House.
New thread is up.
