Great Googly Moogly

I can’t seem to get a proper read on this game.  On paper this looks like a sure loss. KC is on fire, they have their upstart QB in Pat Mahomes, who looks like the 2nd coming given his predecessor, Young Sir Alex the Timid., they have the quarterback whisperer in Andy (I am the Walrus) Reid, and weapons galore, but when you look at who KC has beaten, you have the aluminum Steelers, and the brown-out Chargers. Both teams that give up a shitload of points.

However, KC is a team that is mired in disappointment for lo so many years. I remember their lose Super Bowl win over the Minnesota Vikings waaaay back in 1970 as the last time the AFL and NFL were separate leagues. Their playoff history since then , whether Matt Cassell, Alex Smith, Elvis Grbac, Joe Montana, Damon Huard, or Trent Green have crashed / burned in the playoffs 16 times. And they have not even reached the Conference championship, let alone the big prize.

Blown leads are the order of the recent past.

The 49ers? We have looked like a young team that has struggled with their newly minted but slightly tarnished Jimmy G, a defense that has suffered a bunch of injuries (and a suspension thrown in for good measure), a few too many drops, a few too many mistakes, and a bit of a red zone issue.

That being said, I don’t think this one will be easy for KC. Keep the mistakes and  drops down, get some pressure, and we can win this one. Mahomes and company are due a let-down and as loss, and we’re just the guys to do it.

Darnold looks promising. Nothing great but some good 3rd down conversions. Game managing. Jets gotta be happy.
Mayfield looks exciting. He came in to throw with 2 min. left in the first half in a total no-lose situation. The offense was going absolutely nowhere under Taylor, and I mean nowhere. Taylor missed horribly on a wide open seam route TD. He was missing protection calls, open receivers… Ay yai yai. Mayfield came in, got a needless strip sack, but otherwise he’s been finding receivers and throwing darts. The whole Browns team, O and D, got fired up behind him.
Browns look like drafting geniuses based on this tiny sample size.

An NFL 4th qtr. comeback drive that was almost all Mayfield. Can Darnold do a 2:00 drive? Doesn’t seem to be his game.

Browns win! Browns win! Browns win!

17/23 with 3 drops. 201 0/0. In a half + 2 min. for Mayfield. Came in down 14-0, finished winning 21-17. Heckuva debut, next up Raiders.

Saw bits and pieces of that game, and the aftermath. You’d think they won the Super Bowl by the reaction in Cleveland.

Kid looked good though. Hit some tight windows and his WRs helped him.

Well, with Sherman out, we will get roasted.

    Garnett ruled out, ‘Quise questionable.
Assuming Sherm plays, I’m going with our Defense in this one.
    9ers 31
    KC 28

    Digging on the optimism.

I don’t think KC is all that but we’ll see.

While I was hyping Trubisky and Watson in the 2017 draft I whiffed on Mahomes. I will say that Hill makes him a much better QB. I think the trick could be stopping the run and making sure Hill and Kelce stay covered. Easier said than done. I think we lose this one by at least 2 TDs.

Teams don’t even throw in Sherman’s direction (1 completion allowed) yet their giving up 280 yards a game Roasting Witherspoon &Ward and others, Sherman will play their just cutting back his practices, makes sense along with Staley due to their ages and wear& tear.
I’m sure Sherman will get tested this game though if his heel is dicey, they might be better off in a shootout game, but just not enough weapons to keep up with KC and a brutal place to play..45-27 Chiefs

  13. rtfirefly says:

The Niners have a chance. They’re a mediocre team and it’s the NFL.
    38-23 Chiefs

KC is so good at destroying the hope of their fans. It[s a little early in the season, but this game will be yet another example of that.

I don’t know. I just think our defense will be a shit ton better that last week with M Smith and Reuben Foster replacing Pita Pocket and Elijah Woods.
