Well, there you go. The Niners avoided all the machinations of dissing a guy by franchising him, and went all in (and then some) on Jimmy Garoppolo. His contract extension calls for 5 years at a cool $27.5 mill per year for a total of $137.5 mill. This of course is the largest per-year deal in the NFL, but soon it will be passed by the likes of Aaron Rodgers, Kirk Cousins, Matt Ryan, and Drew Brees. On a per year basis anyway. But that’s the bar as of now.
I got the years right anyway. I had it around $18 mill per. Horseshoes and hand grenades, amirite?
Anyhow, the 49ers have set themselves up early in this new season as at the least a dark horse candidate to make some playoff noise given that they have a lot of draft picks, and fairly high ones at that, they still have around $80+ million in cap space, and a new GM/HC combo that is working together like a well-oiled machine.
Got to be fairly exciting news. Can’t wait to see what they come up with in free agency. Wide receivers must be thinking “hmmm, not a bad spot to land.” The team in general looks like a great place to land. Selah is a respected DC and the team has a log of positives all of a sudden.
Bring it on.
Berger keep this kid on the radar alongside Tremaine Edmunds – A tad shorter, smaller program too.
Kid is at the Combine, which bodes well for his production – Stats are very respectable –
Just a side by side stats Comp –
Nothing else to do now but research prior to the Meat Mkt in Indy – Then, the numbers count π
Tremaine Edmunds, OLB, Virginia Tech Height: 6-5 Weight: 250 40-Time: 4.80 (LB12)
GP TKL TFL SACK PBU INT
40 226 35.0 10.0 5 1
=================================================================
Darius Leonard, OLB, South Carolina St Height: 6-3 Weight: 235 40-Time: 4.75 (LB25)
GP TKL TFL SACK PBU INT
43 393 53.5 21.5 7 6
This kid caught my eye in Mobile too –
No production in his 1st 2 years at LSU, but carried a 20YPC avg for the next 2yrs.
If he’s a legit 6’4″ running a 4.4, I’m interested –
D.J. Chark, WR, L.S.U. Height: 6-4 Weight: 198 40-Time: 4.40 (WO08)
GP REC YDS YPC TD
36 66 1,340 20.3 6
Projected Round (2018): 3-4.
2/10/18: Chark had 40 receptions for 874 yards and three touchdowns in 2017. Once again, LSU’s limitations in the passing game restricted the roster’s receiving talent. Some sources say they are grading Chark as a mid-rounder. Others think he could go higher. Chark had a solid week at the Senior Bowl, where he pushed the defense vertically, showing quickness and athleticism to make plays downfield.
LSU did not have the QBing to help their receiver’s stats. His video will be what scouts will rely on more than most other players.
I did not know Edmunds runs a 4.8 40. That would be too slow for a 1st round LB. I’ll guess that gets better at the combine.
A LB with our #1 ? Really ?
Considering Foster was just arrested today on domestic violence I’d say LB is something we will be addressing in FA and/or the draft.
I’m OK with a slow WR if he is big, physical and can go get the ball from defenders. Besides, they know where they need to go on each play. LBs and DBs need to be fast because they have to recover. They don’t know where the play is going. There are some in the box players like SS and ILB who can be slower as long as they play fast. Tim McDonald was a slow SS who played with great instincts. He played much faster than his 40 time.
A lot of the big WRs are actually much faster than their 40 time at the combine. They don’t get out of the blocks as fast as the quick guys but when they get going they are as fast as most. Best example, Jerry Rice.
Good bye Aldon Foster. It was nice knowing you but not that nice.
Things were looking to good to be true. First time offenders get a 6 week suspension throw in whatever for the pot in Alabama and we are probably looking at 8 weeks minimum. I believe the club will give him a second chance and keep him on a short leash.
Here’s a potential LB target in FA Berger.
NYJ LB Demario Davis – Height: 6-2 Weight: 248 Age: 29
Durable guy if nothing else.
Our Draft Board will likely include another ILB this April too.
Considering the risks Foster has brought upon himself, I’d make plans to cut our losses if I were Lynch.
Weed is one thing. DV and weapons charges too?
C’mon Man……
Recoup his money through Personal Conduct/Detrimental clauses and move on.
This can’t be ignored. If someone is willing to offer something for him? Take it.
Preston Brown from Buffalo wouldn’t be a bad move either –
Height: 6-1 Weight: 251 Age: 25
Another durable guy with good production.
I’m going to spell this name wrong but I think Paul Pawsloosly is a FA. He’s from Jax.
Paul Posluszny – OLB – He’s 33 too.
Not so sure about that one?
If he’ll sign a one or two yr contract we do need an experienced stop gap. We also need to wait and see if we win the coin flip with the Raiders. I’m thinking they will take an ILB.
I’ve got Paws as an ILB.
If it had to happen with Foster – Glad it happened before FA/Draft at least.
SMH with this guy already…..
Same old story with these problem college kids, many don’t leave it behind them when they become a pro, Foster is one dumb asshole.
It’s more serious WInder.

Yeah, it is more serious than I had thought. The team is gonna have to cut him, my guess is by tomorrow. What a waste.
Foster. What a dumbshit. This knocks a little luster off the Jimmy G signing. I guess the Niners will be shopping for LB’s in FA and the draft. Idiot.
NJ, I agree, get the money back and cut his sorry ass. The whole world at his feet and he blows it. Unbelievable.
I think Lynch has to send a message Lurker John, immediately.
He’s obviously a liability off the Field now.
DV is nothing to sneeze at these days, weapons charge not withstanding.
Kid just isn’t worth the negative side effects IMO.
If Lynch is serious about having character guys in the Locker Room, the message has to be sent loud and clear, that no one is exempt. 1st RD Pick or not.
Dipsh!t…….
Now that I’ve gotten a little more involved in the FA Mkt –
I’d make a serious run at Dallas DE DeMarcus Lawrence – He’s made some serious stats for himself and, is coming off his Rookie deal of less than 1.4Mil/YR.
Dallas has some serious Cap restrictions too – Just over $20Mil to use for themselves.
The overall League average to spend is $35Mil –
Jerruh is underwater. He’s got ILB Hitchens, RT Bell and OG Cooper to deal with too.
We have money – Need for a Pass Rusher and, I’d love to get into Jerruh’s core roster with a steal like that π
Lawrence is only 25. Great piece to attack IMO –
Do it Lynch!
I think Lawrence will get signed. He is top priority for them. If they don’t get a deal done they will probably franchise him. OG Cooper looks like a possibility. Suddenly, so does Hitchens.
I read he is expecting the FT.
Part of the Habaugh legacy was players in trouble with the law. That was part of our dismantling. We don’t need to go there again.
Goodbye Foster……..the Niners should part ways ASAP. Really there is no other choice. The part thing was one thing but getting in trouble in Los Gatos is really a stupid move.
Yeah, they need to get in front of this Foster thing. Thing is, they have time to wait for all the info to come out before they cut him. You are right, Bergs. Harbaugh was all about cutting ‘bad guys’ till it happened to his guys. Then it was all about due process.
New thread is up.
