Game Day! (Or When is a Win Not a Win)

As of now the 49ers are #2 in the run for the #1 pick in the league. Based on Cleveland’s weaker strength of schedule they have the top pick. I suppose the strength of schedule can change by the time the season ends, but the Niners could very well fall behind the New York Football Giants by beating them today. There has been a lot of talk about teams tanking this season, like the J-e-t-s, but they went out and won 4 of 9 for something resembling respectability, seeing as the Jets were 5-11 last year and they did a fairly big purge.

Anyhow, back to us, the braintrust went ahead and said that BeatHard would be the cannon fodder to get beaten harder today, instead of the shiny Ferrari in the garage, Jimmy Garoppolo. Trent Brown has been moved to LT in place of the injured Joe Staley, so at least he might slow down some of the pass rushers. And I’d imagine that Staley’s return would signal that it would be OK to pull that Ferrari out of the garage.

So, there you have it. A game that has draft implications as these guys, the Browns, and the Giants may not have 3 wins between them all for the next 7 weeks, but one of them wins tomorrow.  I think we have the best shot. Cleveland is on the road in Deetroit, so that should be a cakewalk for the Lions.  Beyond that, I’d think this team is very focussed on winning more than lining up for next year’s draft. The new coaching staff has the team behind them, and the front office is being very quiet about things, so the sense is that the team, while sucking hard due to injuries and inexperience, is heading in the right direction.

fuck it. Lose out. Trade the #1 pick for booty down under. This is my plan for them.

  2. Winder says:

I would really like to see us play a clean game of football(no fucking turnovers-outrageous # of penalties). I also would really like a shot at Barkley so if we get anyplace past #4 slot we will probably lose out. I don’t think the Niners will tank any game, it would be counterproductive to the philosophy that Lynch and KS are trying to establish. I also think CJ has his best game today. No rookie QB should have to go through what he’s been through the last couple of games. But, I think it will make him a better football player since he did.

  3. 12th Man says:

Well I am hoping for a win, or if not, for CJ to suck so bad they put Jimmy G in, at least something to see.

  4. Nipper says:

Yeah we’re all due for a win. Losing just gets to be a habit. I hope CJ has a productive game. Jimmy G probably will not play unless there’s an injury.

  5. unca_chuck says:

I didn’t know Staley was coming back today, so They are likely gonna wait till after the bye and start him in the Seattle game.

  6. Lurker John says:

    That was PI on yoos-check.

  7. Lurker John says:

That interior OL is beyond pathetic.

  8. Lurker John says:

Just getting shoved back on that 4th and 1.

  9. rob says:

    I want a win

  10. unca_chuck says:

Yeah so do I. If they are still in the market for a QB next draft they have plenty of picks to move up.

  11. Irish Kevin says:

    Run, run, run, why?

  12. unca_chuck says:

CJ’s actually getting some time today.

  13. unca_chuck says:

There’s your fuckup. This Yuuuschick sucks so far.

  14. zumiee says:

    Fumble……kind of predictable.

  15. Lurker John says:

Bullshit ticky-tack call on the hold. Jerome Boger’s crew leads the league in flags thrown and it’s not close.

  16. Lurker John says:

Nice rush by Blair. He’s an interesting guy, could turn out to be good.

  17. Nipper says:

    83 yards TD Niners!

  18. Lurker John says:

    Fucking penalties.

  19. Irish Kevin says:

That is why you throw the ball 🏈!!

  20. Lurker John says:

  21. Lurker John says:

    CJ looking good today.

  22. zumiee says:

    Nice connection on the TD.

  23. zumiee says:

    Good grief. Lead gone already.

  24. Lurker John says:

CJ is making me eat all the bad things I said about him last week. He looks fantastic.

  25. Lurker John says:

13/16 for 198 yds and 2 TD’s at the half. Two perfect balls on the touchdowns. That will, as they say, work.

  26. Winder says:

Funny what some blocking will do.

  27. Lurker John says:

You just wasted a time out Shanahan.

  28. Lurker John says:

WTF makes him think that’s not a catch? He’s probably going to need that TO later.

  29. Winder says:

maybe the ball is gonna bounce our way today

  30. Winder says:

    fucking penalties

  31. Winder says:

    that hurt

  32. Lurker John says:

That’s how you lose games, your fucking QB throws a pick on a screen play. Just a comedy of errors. Paulsen with the boneheaded holding penalty. WTH.

  33. Irish Kevin says:

    A win?

  34. Lurker John says:

CJ going off. It’s nice to finally play a team as bad as we are. lol

  35. zumiee says:

This game is probably the end for the NY Giants head coach.

    • Lurker John says:

After reading about it all week, I can see first hand what they’ve been saying. Poor effort from this team and some guys look like they’ve flat given up.

  36. Winder says:

Just think we actually get some highlights this week

  37. Lurker John says:

Breida showing his wheels! Great audible by CJ there! He looks like the real deal in this game. It’s amazing what some protection will do for a QB’s confidence. Great bounce back game.

  38. unca_chuck says:

The run blocking is actually good, and the O line in general. but holy shit, the Giants gave up on about 6 plays that really looked bad.

  39. unca_chuck says:

As bad as CJ looked, under a ton of pressure, last week, he looked equally as impressive today. Again, the Giants are nearly as banged up as we are, and they are giving up on their coach, but a win is a win. Got to start the Shanny Jr era at some point.

  40. Winder says:

I know the Giants suck but that really takes a load of pressure off the whole organization

  41. Lurker John says:

    WE WIN!

  42. ewisco says:

i loved the part where they poured cups of gatorade on lynch. he had a huge grin.

  43. Lurker John says:

No apologies for any wins in the NFL. The Niners played a solid game and made some big plays. They deserved this one. Let’s see if they can’t get a couple more.

  44. 12th Man says:

  45. unca_chuck says:

Ahhh, Mittens. We hardly knew ye . . .

Joe Fonzie is reporting that Ben (don’t call me Bob) McAdoo will be out as head coach, and his replacement will be the one and only Jim Harbaugh. He and the New York press is a match made in hell.

Not sure where that is coming from, but Harbaugh isn’t burning a hole in the NCAA, He’s been decent but has fallen short yet again of the championship he’s been looking for.

  46. unca_chuck says:

Didn’t think it would be this fast. I thought he would at least cycle through his initial recruiting effort.

  47. Winder says:

I don’t know if I posted this before but it is very cool

  48. rob says:

    Vontea Davis is available
