Or something. In a battle of non-epic proportions, we did get to see some good things. For one, the team is much faster than the previous version. And I don’t mean getting-to-the-line faster. I mean speed on the field faster.
The newly retooled offense had little to show short of a nice drive thwarted by 15 penalties called in the red zone. The worst being a OPI call on Burbridge when he ran his route and stopped as the throw went behind him for a TD to Robinson. Hoyer hit a nice 15 yard penalty on 3rd and 12 negated by a penalty as well. That was pretty much the operating theme.
17 penalties for a total of 131 yards. Certainly we need to lean that up. On the plus side there were no ints and no fumbles. CJ Beathard looked good playing the 2nd stringers. Joe Williams is fast as hell and looked very good in the open field. Reuben Foster nearly had a pick off of Alex Smith on their first TD drive. The defense was a little slow off the ball and gave up a big 42 yard pass play to speedster Tyreek Hill to set up that score.
Rashard Robinson had a bad start but did get a pick on KCs 2nd drive. Other standouts include Aaron Lynch, who had his way with RT Jah Reid. Of course he just got an ankle injury in practice. Trent Taylor looked very good when his punt returns weren’t being called back. He also made 3 catches for 33.
What to glean from this? Not much. Hoyer got one series, 1/3 for 3 yards. I’m sure they will all get a little more playing time next week. EWould like to see the line do better at holding the defense at bay while we actually try a deep pass.
Pre season or practice games will always be a whimper and I predict will be replaced by something else………perhaps two games.
yeah, they are just glorified auditions but that’s the way we can see what they bring. The only problem with that is all the teams are auditioning, so who knows. I would like to see em cancel at least one of the preseason games and use that week for more of an intense practice. But then I would like to see us go back to the 15-18 round drafts and expand the 53 to 58 or so. The owners wouldn’t like that but I would.
ok how excited am I ! the seahawks just signed brock ! Is it just me or is our weakest spot on defense at CB ? Hey the seahawks only have Sherman and might use brock as their 2nd or third corner ! gee I thought we could use him but then what do I know !
Saw that this morning, Rob. Not surprised in the least bit. I think Brock wants to stick it to us for cutting him. He found a willing partner in Seattle
No love lost there. Hopefully we have better cb’s now than before. Brock used to get beat all the time.
He was OK. Rashard needs to keep improving. He had a nice recovery after getting torched for 2 quick bombs (one was called back for OPI).
Being a 1st year head coach Kyle is not going to show any plays in an exhibition game, no reason to give other teams an edge.
We’ll see. I’m hoping to see some more offense this game. At least a little more of Hoyer.
I know it’s only preseason, and Ryan Leaf looked like a God in his preseason debut, but Trubiscuit may make a believer out of me. He’s looking pretty solid against Denver. Yeah it was last week, but they are showing it on the NFL Network and I’m working from home today,
Going to the game Saturday, hope to see some O for a change even pre-season.
12th, hopefully the fans will show up and make some noise even though it’s only is a practice game. I think the players will really respond to that. Let us know what you think about the whole atmosphere.
Will do Winder, maybe Irish Kevin is going too.
Sorry 12th I won’t be there, didn’t get tickets this year. Cash flow was down
That’s a bummer Kevin, just when they look like they have turned the corner. Hope next year is better for you.
Hey Kevin, I have a spare free ticket for tonight if you want to go?
Ahhh, was gong to ask you about that, Kevin. Sorry to hear that, but it may be a blessing in disguise.
I’m sure I’ll hit at least one game with Garrett. No bags this time! -2th do you have season tix?
I am going to try and make it down to see one myself. Been to long.
Yes Chuck.
I’m looking October Nov to avoid the heat, Be great to meet up for a beer or 3.
If I can get away and do it I will let you know. It would be fun since we’ve been talking for years.
Dallas would be fun. If not that, the NY Giants. If only for NJ!
Didn’t see any Miner kneeling..they’re better already lol.
Niner*
Reid bringing the wood.
Why would Shanahan decline the illegal motion penalty and take the ball at the 10 instead of going for the offsetting penalties and a re-kick? I think these officials have their heads up their asses.
WTF. Some good plays, but penalties and a bone headed fumble take care of that drive.
Hoyer lost the ball but he reminds me of Alex Smith but better. Garcon and Goodwin light years better than any WR last year. OG make no holes for the RG.
Reid and Jerome look good at safety.
RB*
Yeah. Hoyer did make some good throws. I agree about the wideouts, they should be a lot better and to me McDonald looks good and in great shape. I think he’s motivated to have a great year, plus he blocks well. So far, no holes for the backs.
fuck. I guess we can’t have a drive without a shitload of penalties.
You asked about atmosphere Winder. 50% crowd attendance, good for pre season, but very into the game. Feels like regular season in terms of crowd excitement, upbeat.
Carlos Hyde looks like shit
No blocking.
Robinson has looked like shit in 1+ games coming up and tackling ball carriers.
Reid’s been flying around so far.
MVP so far.
Hoyer certainly throws the underneath route well
