I see this Season starting with lots of motion and ground attack.
Our OL is going to take time to adjust to the new system, however, a WCO should help them once Alex and the WRs get into the necessary rhythm.
Game 1, lots of Gore and Hunter, 9ers win a close one. I do expect Harbaugh to take some deep shots though, VD and Braylon will be a nice duo.

No question about it snarkk, been proven time and again. Its very difficult, and rare, to win the whole enchilada with a mid level talent QB. The hard part is figuring out if your QB is actually a top QB suffering from shitty coaching, scheme, surrounding cast or is in fact not the real deal.
Carson Palmer was a discarded retread now playing at an elite level for instance.
Is Kap really just not up to it or is it some blend of the other issues? $64,000 question.
I agree with Chuck, Kap has more to offer than we saw last year.
They changed his style of play, gave him statistically the worst OL in football, the 3rd hardest part of the schedule, a lousy TE group led by hands of stone Davis and his RB was playing injured as was he himself.
Pile that on top of Chryst as the OC and who is to say if Kap is capable or not?

Yes you have followers here because that’s all you’ll attract, leaders would never continue to post here. It took Skeebers and his friends years to see the light but the difference here is at least they finally seen it. Remember intelligence is someone with the capacity for abstract thought or the comprehension of complex issues. Just backing anyone because our team leaders hire them only shows where the real stupidity lies. Not questioning or learning from continued bad moves simply shows a lack of wisdom on your part.
Being stupid has to do with not understanding things, not learning from past experiences, and generally not using your brain. Every year you’re wrong yet every year you act as if you were right. Then those like me who end up being correct our silenced by you because of your unwillingness to face reality or hear the truth.

One last ride for Coughlin to set the stage for Sean Payton when he’s free to seek his next gig?
Seems like the least disruptive transition between Coaches IMO.
Coughlin is widely respected, has more contacts around the league than God, is not interested in power grabs historically, has a successful track record including relatively recently and I don’t see Jed or Baalke getting into a pissing contest with him.
The man has gravitas.
Kap may well still have something to offer (I’m dubious), but are the Niners willing to cough up $14M to find out?
It will be 11M and if the new coach thinks he can resurrect him they will do that in a heartbeat. Gabbert didn’t frighten anyone.
Coughlin is a fine coach, possibly even warranting consideration for the HoF, but 69 years old? I don’t know. I guess if he feels like he still has the drive and passion to do it, okay, and I suppose that’s the only way he come back anyway. Jackson seems like the safer long term answer, but I expected him to be hired by today. He may well be off the table already. If that’s the case, once again, Baalke and Co will have been a day late and a dollar short. Same delay crap took place last year and we ended up with the toilet brush. Make your goddamn decision and let’s get on with it.
Jackson seems like a guy learning to be a head coach to me. I don’t think the Niners need a newbie. He made a nasty mess at the end of his one and done Raider HC gig. Too many hot heads in 4949 as it is.

I am so done with Baalke at this point. Everything he does seems so slow and labored and indecisive. The right decision for Jed was to can not only Tomsula but Baalke as well. The dude has run his course and needs to go away.
For better or worse Jed has given him one more spin of the wheel. Certainly Baalke needs to improve over his last few drafts. He knows it. Lets see what he does this year but I think its fair to say his strategy of believing his roster can withstand waiting a year or two for the injured guys he keeps drafting was optimistic. I don’t think any roster can afford to play Russian roulette like that regardless of the depth.
I find it curious that Baalke spent a marathon interview session a year ago, working to persuade Gase to come aboard Lurker John.
How those efforts turned into forcing Tomsula into the mix lies squarely on Jed IMO.
Baalke seems smart enough to know he needs an Offensive colleague to balance this roster.
He tried it with Harbaugh, who brought in Kaep.
Gase would have been a good transition in helping to improve Kaep’s shortcomings.
I think Baalke is/was being manipulated, to some degree, by Jed/Paraag.
I’d be fine with Coughlin as a precursor to potentially attracting Payton in a year or 2.
Systems are similar and, could make for a smooth step in the right direction, for a young team trying to rebound.
Especially when Gase ended up working with Fangio in Chicago.
Something just didn’t make sense in that whole episode.

If you’re going to replace the HC, as was done with Harbaugh, the next QB selection should fit what the next scheme is being built on IMO.
A potential Coughlin to Payton transition would be damn near seamless in that regard.

Yeah, that deal with Gase last year left me baffled as well. If Jed did put the restrictions on the deal, then he deserves all the fuckedupedness he gets. If this drags out with Hue Jackson and he doesn’t come here, then we look like a total joke of a franchise.

There are two things that can happen when a Golden Franchise is set on your lap. One you can care about the standards, legacy and tradition the franchise had and want to continue moving football team in that direction. Or two you can stay complacent, milk it for what it’s worth and just do barely enough to not start a riot. I don’t need to tell you which path the York’s decided to take since their takeover.
Since their arrival we tried everything opposite of what we should’ve been looking for. Erickson, Nolan, Singletary and even Harbaugh had no business here with his Jimmy Raye’s, Wild Cat offense, drafting Kaepernick. Those Disciples who carried Walsh’s vision were overlooked because money replaced winning and the standards once set here. Even when Mooch was asked why some kind of form of the WCO wasn’t used in Frisco anymore he looked puzzled himself.
If Jed cared even a little about winning he would find someone who would bring us back to our roots and bring us back on a path we shouldn’t have left in the first place. Then and only then would we know he’s serious. His lackluster approach to winning by hiring people who simply do not belong here or just promoting clowns like Singletary and Tomsula because he doesn’t care must stop for us to believe that he’s serious. Please don’t bother questioning a form of the WCO coming back here because we tried it all the other ways and we failed miserably. I mean do you really prefer Jimmy Raye to Walsh’s offense? If you do you must be battling a case of Amnesia.
The real problem we face is that everyone in the league knows the York’s are cheap and their commitment to winning is non-existent, so us attracting anyone who really has the credentials to be here and restore our tradition is very slim.

Most people at least give Harbaugh credit for getting the team back to the NFL elite. Even if it was short-lived, and basically Scotty McLoughan’s doing. All you do is whine about the past. Blah blah blah.
Since you haven’t noticed, the WCO as Bill Walsh designed it has been stopped by faster linebackers and schemes to take away the short passing game. There are variants out there, but they’ve morphed into deeper routes to try and clear out the flats. Or designing plays that Walsh hadn’t thought of.
The TE drag route is a new variant of the WCO, but something that Walsh didn’t use. Mainly because the idea of sending the TE on deep seam routes was foreign to defenses back then, and it worked to perfection with guys like Charle Young, Russ Francis, and especially Brent Jones. That has been stopped, as we saw with VD, by putting a safety, or even double-teaming the TE rather than an LB alone. Even the TE/FB wheel route is a fairly new variant. Walsh used Rathman as a WR at times, but rarely in a sideline pass play as the wheel route is.
