Some bowl games to watch today, including St Jim vs the Alligators, and Stanford/Iowa in the Rose Bowl.
As far as the draft goes, Jared Goff did himself a solid by tearing up Air Force for 25/37 for 467 yards and 6 TDs, and Paxton Lynch took a pretty big dump by going 16/37 for 108 yards and a pick. Not sure why Lynch gets the hype, but there you have it. Granted, there’s a disparity in the level of competition, but that’s college football.
Much like the 2005 draft, you have a QB from a spread offense and a QB from a pro style offense looking to go 1-2. Once again, the 49ers are in the mix for one of them. Let’s hope they get the guy from Cal. At this point they need a QB and Goff looks like he’s pretty solid. Gabby can keep his spot warm while we build around Goff. The rest? Draft O linemen, CBs, and ILBs. We have a ton of picks but we have to start using them better.
the gabbert/goff OL play is really smart i think (and have said before). they’ve needed db’s in what seems like forever but maybe this is the year. one thing about starting gabbie next year is it should mean a fairly competitive team but eventually another low set of draft picks. that’s the year to pull the last pieces of the OL and add whatever else is missing for a real run at the playoffs.
i have no faith in jed’s ability to hire a good GM though. so even if he cans baalke, who’s he going to get? who the hell would want to deal with his mess? he desperately needs some sort of expert who can walk him through all the asst. GM’s who might make a good head GM. but i don’t know of anyone in the org (like a jerry west for the dubs) who can help.
happy new year!
And now the L.A. Rams …….(St. Louis Lambs) to complete this pathetic season. Ouch!
Unfortunately, the Niners will be the lambs on Sunday. I hope they do lose if only to maximize their draft position.
Erik, I think Scott Pioli would be an excellent GM choice. He can deal with the rest. The sticking point is Jed giving up ALL football decisions to him and clearing everyone else out.
I don’t think Baalke will pull the trigger on a 1st rd QB. I am not sure who is the best available replacement for our GM, all I know is I don’t want Baalke to have another draft for the Niners.
Yup. My feelings as well.
What a great day for football, I don’t really care about any game but the Rosebowl. I hope Stanford can pull it off. GO INDIANS.
This entire front office is full of glad-handers, Dr. Dork hangers-on, and Jed’s college buddies it seems.
i’d take pioli. jed still needs to find a jerry west though.
Cardinal opening a can of whoop ass on the Hawkeyes. Nice.
There certainly are guys like shanny and holmgren available. But they want to coach, not advise.
and there’s the rub. mark davis was able to lean on john madden and a couple of others (i think) but jed has nobody. steve young, as a broadcaster, might have some insight into what’s going on in other organizations but maybe not. lord knows they need someone who can judge talent. baalke doesn’t seem to be it which is a firing offense in his position.
Shit, John McVay is still around.
Radio guy on CBS Radio is listing Tomsula as one of the coaches in the league walking the plank. Ouch! If true the word “scapegoat” comes to mind. Baalke has to do something if he sticks around. Jed is probably in a fetal position sucking on his thumb somewhere.
The Rams should kick our ass tomorrow and for once I hope they do. And, I hate the fucking Rams.
Your LA RAMS will kick some ASS!
Tomsula’s last game I hope! ……. Damn he’s the shits.
So is Baalke but what the hell………..
“Please Jed Fire Someone”………. should be the next banner.
My fantasy: Jed announces Levi’s is becoming a giant shopping mall and mother is taking over to oversee the project. Jed decides he’s taking an around-the-world cruise to get rid of the stench of the past season.
Tomsula …..GONE according to reports…..
Huh, haven’t seen that.
Baalke is the one holding the bag of donuts here.
New thread is up.
