Tis the season to witness more college bowl games than there are actual college teams. By my count there are 356 bowl games coming up, including the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl, Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl, and the Belk Bowl. That last one is the sound you make after watching 41 bowl games in 3 weeks.
I don’t have much of a vested interest in these games. Although I will take a gander at the Pac-12 North teams. Stanford was a play away from reaching the Final 4, but is instead relegated to the Rose Bowl vs. Iowa. Cal is playing Air Force in the Armed Forces Bowl. Oregon plays TCU in the Valero Alamo bowl.
Shit, 5-7 San Jose State is in a bowl game. The Cure Bowl, vs 6-6 Georgia St. Ewwww. Plenty of penicillin going around for that one.

Giving credit where credit is due, #14 Michigan rode a soft schedule to the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl. Jim Harbaugh once again walks into a storied team that was underachieving and turned them around quickly. If not for the muffed punt vs in-state rival Michigan State, (doh!) they’d be ranked even higher.
Still and all, they went 1-3 vs ranked opponents. Nothing against Harbaugh, it’s more an indictment of college football in general. UNLV? Oregon St? Every team pads their schedules with teams like East Carolina and UC Davis to stomp, so you end up with a boatload of teams that aren’t as good as they seem. That’s why they play 41 bowl games. To further muddy the waters.
So I’ll be watching the Citrus bowl. One of these days St Jim’s head will explode.
The BCS has fucked things up over the years. To me the Rose, Orange, Cotton, and Sugar Bowls were the only significant games. With the strength of schedule that most teams have now it’s really is impossible to crown a national champion, it’s mostly all bullshit.
Yeah, they really need to do this like the b-ball touney. It’s still a pile of shit the way it goes now. Still too much conjecture and ambiguity in the rankings.
Seed 16 teams and play through. 4 weeks of games. Get rid of the dead month of no games.
Dawn of the DEAD Month should end.
No Wendy’s Bowl?
You know, I thought there was one.
we’re going to the texas bowl while visiting the mother in law.
That should be a pretty good game.
We have Bowl #1! Against a Pac-12 opponent at that! Too bad, you’d have to pay me to go to ABQ – NOT my favorite city. 7-5 is the best record the Lobos have had since 2007. They’re still looking for their first conference title (in ANY conference) since 1964.
Funny, I distinctly remember the radio interview with HC Mike Locksley right before the 2011 opener. “Blah, blah, blah-de-blah”. Then 1-11. Again. All three years under Locksley. It took Bob Davie four years to turn it around, but then nobody in their right mind with a choice sends their kids to UNM (think a bigger San Jose State, small downtown campus).
The only time I was in Albequerque was whenever they did hands across America. A girl I knew talked me into driving down for it when I was living in Carbondale, Colo. Took the killer 82 over independence pass down thru NM Camped out in the middle of nowhere and found the line of people outside of Albequerque the next day. Grabbed a couple hands, stood in the line, and like 2 minutes later someone said “that’s it. We’re done.”
I though, shit, I drove 8 hours for this? Ended up swimming in the Rio Grande, so there’s that.
They’ve got some killer Mexican restaurants, some really good museums, and I do like Oldtown, it’s just really small.
For museums, I recommend the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History, open to the public. Just remember while you’re there that you’re practically sitting on top of a weapons stockpile, just a few miles away under the Sandia Mountains and run by Kirkland AFB, which is in ABQ. (Sandia National Labs, with its top secret R & D stuff and the world’s most powerful X-ray generator, is part of that complex. A good friend used to work at the now defunct GE plant, which had underground connections to all that good stuff.). THE NMNSH is just soooooo ABQ, which has the Dodgers triple-A team, the Isotopes.
The Natural History Museum in Oldtown is great for geeks like me, and who wouldn’t like the Rattlesnake Museum?
*Kirtland AFB, I always get that wrong.
Wisco, LSU is always fun to watch. Texas Tech? Not sure. Should be a blast. I
ve nnever been to a bowl game before.
What happened to the Blue Diamond Nut bowl? They used to play that one in SF.
Looks like Jed got the Foster Farms Chicken Bowl. Figures . . .
UCLA and Nebraska, though? Hmmm. That might be kinda fun.
Lets create the BLEEP YOU Forever Bowl……The lousiest teams we can find should be in this bowl.
Bowl Games = Scouting games.
12 Picks in ’16.
I’ll be doing my homework.
Baalke’s Staff should be busy too.
‘Bama has a few Defensive studs I’d like to have.
Dream on………
Speaking of dreams, new thread is up…..
