Well, the 49ers did sign Desmond Bishop, he of a couple starts last year when the team got decimated by injuries. Lots of guys are coming by for visits, including WRs Hakeem Nicks, erstwhile NY Giant, and ex-Vike Greg Jennings. Funny thing is, Michael Crabtree appears to be the forgotten WR as he dangles in free agent silence while players latch on to new teams. He may be a man without a team come June.
My hope at this point is we get a TE or two to compete with Vance McDonald. He has been underwhelming to say the least. Then again, the TE position last year was a wash, as VD did little to nothing, and the rest did less than that.
A slew of linebackers, including Lance Briggs, Phillip Wheeler, and Erin Henderson also paid visits last week. I’d like to see us get more line depth on both sides. Looks like that will be the focus in the draft.
Granted we need bodies to get through camp, and gaining depth will definitely help come draft day, but there’s nothing too thrilling about this process at this point. 28 days til the draft, and 24 days til I’m a year older . . .

Often lunges and plays too far over his feet which causes him to fall off blocks. Gets out of stance efficiently and moves well for size when climbing to the second level or pulling around edge. Average ability to adjust on the fly to throw on defenders in space.
Four year starter with ample experience. Alert and shows above-average awareness in pass pro. Keeps head on a swivel and recognizes defensive line stunts in a timely manner. Will occasionally be a quarter count late locating the blitz from the second and third level. Quick locates and identifies targets in the run game. Only issue as a run blocker is that he will be a quarter count adjusting on the fly against stunts or run blitzes.
Plays with a mean and nasty demeanor on the field. Does not back down and will mix it up at the drop of a dime. Looks to finish and will let you know about it when he does. The type of guy you want on your side in a bar fight or going down a dark alley.”

The freak athlete with tape to match
Byron Jones: The UConn cornerback can broad jump a furlong and is fast and bouncy. He also displays great acceleration when he needs to recover. It would be easy to see Jones’ workout footage and peg him as an athlete, but he’s actually better at anticipating than simply relying on changing direction without any wasted motion, because his change-of-direction movement is probably the one clear weakness he shows on tape. I think Jones could land at safety depending on the needs of the team that drafts him. He’s one of the bigger sleepers in this draft.
Where he’ll land: Top 40.
TE for whatever reason was a black hole last year. Not sure why but the backups did little, and VD was a ghost of himself.
Too many distractions for him? I don’t get what happened last yew at with our core guys. Frank was missing blocks, VD was a non-entity, Crabs was dropping passes, the line play was awful, on and on.
The coaching staff was running an offense with “dumb schemes” and the players were not being instinctive. They were thinking too much. Our offensive scheme was so bad that even the players were publically calling it out. Harbaugh had to go.
College coaches suck. Few last longer than five years.
How about a big SS in the mold of Kam Chancellor in the later rounds 6-7.
Clayton Geathers, Central Florida 6’2 218 lays the wood, just what we need in the secondary, get more physical!!

49er’s HC being made fun of on National Sports Radio like a guy who can barely keep a complete thought together. He’s got an image problem at least. Perhaps a stooge following orders?
All they know is we fired a coach who had a good won loss record. It makes them “so called” experts because the can read numbers. Some people see some numbers and think they know everything. As time goes by they often sound like they were smoking a number at the time.
