Game 11 – Shit’s Gettin’ Real

Weather is 33ΒΊ at game time, with winds out of the SW at 8-10 MPH.
____________________________________________________________________

A strange season is getting progressively stranger as the weeks go on. The 6-4 49ers are currently on the outside of the playoff picture looking in. Mainly due to the fact that the Indianapolis Colts feasted upon the ‘elite’ NFC West teams (Seattle and SF) and got blasted to kingdom come by the ‘also-rans’ of the West (AZ and StL) to the tune of 78-19.

Carolina showed its guts by squeaking out a win in Fin-land behind the legs of Cam Newton. He was beaten, battered, and bettered all day, but scored late TD to win it. Much like Tennessee over the Raiders. Oaktown had a chance to insert themselves into the playoff picture (!), but couldn’t finish off the woeful Titans and Ryan Fitzpatrick (and his friend Patrick Fitzmichael), giving up a TD with 18 seconds left.

Green Bay’s playoff hopes were dented by a tie in frigid Wisconsin, as the Packers inexplicably kept trying to ride the Scott Tolzein Experience to a victory. After his debacle last week, why they put him in over Flynn yesterday has to be seriously qiestioned. I thought they’d put Flynn in at the easdrliest opportunity. Ooops. As it was, he led the Pack to a late tie, but that was it. GB and Minn traded FGs in OT and that was it.

Which brings us to tonight’s game. Win, and we are back in the 6th spot due to our previous win over AZ. Lose, and the team may not recover from the fallout. Lose, and we are effectively 2 games behind AZ, as they own the tiebreaker with SF due to their wins over Indy and Carol. Although if the last game of the year comes down to AZ vs SF for the last playoff spot, even if SF is a game behind, we would win the tiebreaker should the Niners in that game, due to sweeping them. Of course the flip side is true. We come into that last game one up on AZ and lose, SF is out. All those other teams (Chi, GB, Det, Philly, StL) will be beating each other up, so the likeliest of scenarios is the 6th seed comes out of the West. No one said this would be easy, but I certainly didn’t think it would be this hard.

In some good news, Michael Crabtree is a game-time decision. I thought the activation of Mario Manningham would help the offense, but he’s been slowed by knee issues and general shitty play calling. Frankly, I wouldn’t play Crabtree tonight. It’s going to be cold and miserable so it isn’t a good scenario to get his first taste of action.

Nice Mario and Bouldin on that drive!!!!!

  3. JT's avatar JT says:

Just give that int to Aldon. If the niners can’t beat this nutbag piece of shit team, may they take a peace pipe up their holes

  4. JT's avatar JT says:

Why do they continue to call plays for Hunter that are more suited for Gore? Why are they trying to make a pocket passer out of Kap. Watch tape of the pistol offense that his coach at Nevada invented for him, and take fucking notes

  5. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

There is no way we should not be scoring!! Shit play calling

  6. Kap looked that pass right into the LB’s hand. What shoulda been a PK 6 the other way goes as a harmless inc. That’s why WAS is 3-7, and that’s why I’m still not impressed with our team. A good team (SEA) takes that for 6. We ain’t beating Seattle.

  7. JT's avatar JT says:

Kap is a slightly slower version of T. Pryor, with a better arm and terrible field vision. If A Smith was stupid enough to stay around as a back up he’d be in there right now

Boldin, MM and VD = what a difference good receivers make

LMJ is having a good game at punt returner. Big plus after our struggles w/ KW, etc

CK does run backwards faster than Alex did πŸ˜‰
All in all though, one of his better games throwing the ball.

Can we play the Redskins every week?

Passing is a beautiful thing. You pass you win.

Yeah, random, I was at that game too. Sitting under the jumbotron. I could not believe he ran that punt back fromthe 3 .

      Chuck,
Your assessment of this Skins squad was correct. I assumed incorrectly that their passing game based off PA would show up….no doubt the Niner defense, especially Brooks and the Smith brothers had something to do with that.

NoFear, you are right bout Dildo, but you really make me laugh when you say Manning bears no responsibility for the bad numbers. You spent years screaming about Alex Smith ‘s numbers and how bad they are, and suddenly it doesn’t matter? Suddenly, running the ball isn’t dumbing down the offense for the QB? Right. Manning had a pretty bad game and they lost after blowing a 24 point lead. To say anything else regarding Manning is ludicrous.

    Awesome.

Man …….Washington is in a bigger mess than Obama care. Kap looked great. That RG III is putrid.

  18. NoFear49er's avatar NoFear49er says:

Nice try, Chuck. Try it again with what I really wrote.

On second thought, if you don’t see the difference in Denver running the ball last night and us running the ball because it’s our only offense with Alex Smith maybe you should quit trying to analyze a game by looking at the box scores.

How many years has Manning missed the Pro-Bowl since he was drafted? And Alex? Why do you s’pose that is?

Everyone’s fooled by Manning but you?

  19. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

why are wee talking about Manning? he is 1-11 in the playoffs, 1 super bowl. no big deal. Jim Kelley went to the SB 3 times, lost all three, does that make him a bad QB. NO, he got his team there. Manning is a Great QB. But this is a TEAM sport. if you Defense can’t stop the other team is that the QB’s fault?? hardly. So let’s get back to talking about what this blog is for. THE 49ERS!!
