Damn, what an inglorious end to a magical season. Say what you will, but the Niners should have won what was yet another huge defensive struggle between these two teams. That was their 8th playoff meeting (now tied 4-4). I didn’t want to listen to any of the post game commentary, because I’m sure the Giants were saying things like, we knew we were going to win, we beat them, It was our destiny. You know bullshit like that. It turned out Antrel Rolle was right, but he was talking about the Niners, not the Giants, when he said the only way we lose is if we beat ourselves. The 49ers, while struggling mightily offensively, had the lead and should have had possession late in the 4th quarter. The spector of Preston Riley and Roger Craig paid a visit and the deal was sealed when KW let the punt hit his leg. The Giants scored a TD and took the lead. In an almost seredipitous moment, KW made a great punt return later in the 4th quarter to set up the tying FG. But we all know what happened in OT.
I’m not sure how all of you feel (I know how some of you feel), but I think all these WRs should go. Morgan can stay if healthy. Crabs had another lackadaisacal performace, half-assing routes, and not bothering to turn for the ball. He can’t decipher a hot read to save his fucking life. For all of his improvement this year, he still doesn’t get it. VD pretty much saved the season through these playoff games. Other than VD and Gore, no one could get open ALL GAME. Harbaugh loves using TEs and backs, but they should have been able to get SOMETHING going with Crabs.
Ahhhhhhhhh fuck. Anyhow, I hope Brady riddles the shit out of NY and beats them into the ground. The New York Giants are the luckiest goddamn team to win as much as they have. Scott Norwood, Roger Craig, the helmet catch, and now this? Blehhhhhh.
Harbaugh and Co. deserve all the credit in the world for the season. And, they deserve a little criticism, too. They had to know going into the season that this WR corp was abysmally low on talent. You can argue the lockout limited their options. OK. But, after Morgan went down, they get Swain? Did that guy ever catch one pass? I can’t remember one, if he did. How bad or injured or toxic must Edwards have been to be cut right before the playoffs, when they had nobody, nobody in the WR corps? They could have gotten Brandon Lloyd mid season, instead he went from Denver to the Rams for a friggin’ 6th round pick. Hell, Lloyd would have been the #1 WR on the team. The piss poor WRs is something Baalke and Harbaugh should have fixed better than they did, but they didn’t. Harbaugh clearly didn’t think that was a huge, Code Blue problem., and he was shown wrong yesterday…
Snarkk wants WR! And lots of them!
Phil I don’t know who you think I am, but I don’t post on Inside 49ers, or whatever other blog you are talking about.
I didn’t call the game 27-20 somewhere else.
So you’re not “V?”
LQTM . . .
Just yanking yer chain Chuck…
V, Spitblood, Unca Chuck, one in the same if you ask me.
Just kidding Chuck!!

I think the game will start off “fast and firm,” but I could see Bill Walsh Field being labeled as “muddy” come the second half. Looks like Ginn will be a no-go for tomorrow, so I’ll take “my boy” Kyle Williams as the “pick to click.” 6/66/1 and a couple of nice ST returns will work for me.
All I can say is that I’m sorry. I’m truly sorry.
He clicked.
For the Giants…
At least he was a key player.
It’s not yer fault he screwed up but yeah you had it wrong about his big game. It’s on KW tho.
I made this point yesterday, and I’ll ask again. On the OT fumble, why wasn’t the ball in Williams’ sideline (left) hand with pressure coming from the inside, and he’s running near the sideline? If it is, there’s no fumble…
It should have, but I’m sure he prefers to carry it in his right. The point being, he should have been using TWO hands to cover the ball.
No way can you turn it over down there.
I’ll agree with that. I wonder what Seely told him, if anything, before going out there for the punt…
Check that. Before BOTH punts he screwed up…
Rumor has it Kyle Willams and Billy Cundriff both applied for the “Witness Protecton Program” and were vehemently DENIED!!!!!!!
Who has better then Kyle Williams? EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One thing I really noticed during the game is the lack of throwing lanes our line gives to Smith. There were crossing routes that NY threw where the blocking was designed to open up areas to throw the ball for the short passing game.Mainly for those crossing routes. NY either cut-blocked the D linemen down, or pushed a gap open to create a lane. More often than not, Smith’s slants are batted down by the D linemen.
I would like to see stats on bat-downs for QBs, league-wide, but I haven’t found any. Alex has had tons of bat-downs his entire career, IMO, and he’s 6’5″, I think. Regardless of OC. I’d like to know how he ranks with other QBs on that stat. Did SF get even one on Manning? And he’s shorter, I think, than Alex…
Both are listed at 6′ 4″ according to their bios.
So, sue me for an inch…
Better to sue for one than have your wife beg for another. 😛
I hate that when that happens…
I hate to say it, but even the Raiders had better WRs than the Niners this season. I used to bust on them for DHB, but he’s turned into a passable WR, and he’s got speed. Schilens, Murphy, not great, but not horrible. Harbaugh has to get out of the mind set that he’s still at Stanford on offense. You can’t have an NFL offense in 2012 where your fastest and best receiver is the TE. The Pats have Gronk, but they also have Welker. Welker has more savvy and heart in his left big toe than Crabby, and is faster, even after a major knee issue year before last…
Snarkk, you forgot to mention Denarius Moore: 33/618/5. And that was in limited duty. The Raiders WRs make the Niners look like they come from the land of Lilliput.
Don’t forget playmaker Jacoby Ford as well.
Question….On the first fuck up by Willams when it hit his leg, the Giants Thomas was blocked out of bounds going down field,I thought he could not be the first guy to recover that muff but he was?
Kat, I posted this earlier on Skeeber’s blog:
Rule 9 Article 3: A player of the kicking team, who has been out of bounds, may not touch or recover a
scrimmage kick beyond the line of scrimmage until it has been touched by a kicking team player who has
not been out of bounds, or until it has been touched by a player of the receiving team beyond the line.
Note: If a player touches or recovers the ball before he has re-established himself inbounds, the ball is out of
bounds at the spot of the touch, and there is no foul.
Stop blaming the refs. It’s not their fault.
Harbaugh press conf. at 2 PM on CSN. I’d image it’ll be streaming live on their website for those of you not at home.
“It’s not the end of the world, but right now it feels like it.” — Donte Whitner
I feel Donte got the latter half correct.
Congrats to Justin Smith on winning the Len Eshmont Award.
Well deserved.
Stupid fans posting death threats to K Williams, did they not learn anything from the Brian Stow fiasco??
Hmmmm. Where have I heard death threats to players.
Couldn’t be here.
Chuck, if you can name the one and only person who received a death from yours truly yesterday. You win the Kewpie doll.
death *threat* I’ve always had a worse time with actually omitting entire words in my comments than I do with their spelling. I’m not sure if Merriam-Webster has a definition for that lack of action or not, but I’m willing to bet that life-long drinking and having two strokes on your resume is a part of it.
TF, spare me with your Wernicke-Korsakoff answer. I’m not in the mood after yesterday’s loss. Save if for another day, would you please?
You had a team playing yesterday?
AK, the ball hit KW. Therefore he wasn’t the 1st player to touch the ball. If it hadn’t hit KW, then it would have been a penalty on NY. But it did.
And our season ended because of it. If he runs away from the ball, the game is moe than likely over. But you never really know. Smith could have thrown a pick 6, or a zillion other things could have happened. More than likely though is the field position battle rages on and the Niners win in the end. Even a FG makes it much tougher for the Giants to win.
The fact is the Niners would have had the ball on their 30, and a 4 point lead. As it was, they gave up 7 and lost the lead because of it. But KW redeemed himself with a 40 yard punt return later in the 4th quarter to set up the FG.
Ahhh, fuck it.
Wiilaims also had to make a diving catch to snare one and he called two fair catches when he had room to run…also there was one of the few mystifying decisions by Harbaugh- after not using him all game, he chose Dixon to get a crucial first down- 3 and 4, midfield, Dixon gets 3 yards on two carries, they punt on 4th and 1 and NY goes 80 yards to go up 17-14. HUGE…
They didn’t really go 80 yards on that drive. That drive was the result of the muffed punt.
You’re right, sorry- it was still a bizzare decision to go with Dixon. In fact-stupid.
I completely forgot that WIlliams was part of that botched reverse earlier in the game. Either he had been totally undone by nerves or he was hurt or he is just incompetent. His dad says he had a separated shoulder but that seems to have been refuted by the coaching staff but they really weren’t totally clear about that.
So which of the 3 was it?
Hell im still miffed we could give up a first ever TD to ex Niner Bear Pascoe who Singletary cut cause he thought he was to slow.
Well, I don’t think that play did much to dispel the the notion, Kat..
I don’t want to get too religious on Chuck’s blog. It’s a sports blog and I respect that and Chuck. But I will say this about Singletary and the cross he wears around his neck — Shove it up your goddamn fucking ass. You’re wrong. You’re wasting your time.
Huh?
How about making sense, skippy?
What are you talking about?
God knows I’ve put up with you a long time, Dennis. What the fuck are you talking about?
I did have to feel sorry for Alex Smith, coming into this championship game knowing your only recieving weapon was Vernon Davis.Hoping Crabtree would have helped out, cause after those 2 we have nothing. Can anybody expect in a playoff game any production from the likes.of Bret Swain,Joe Hastings, and Kyle Williams?
Such a great advantage for Manning to have proven big time players in Nicks,Cruz, and Mannigham.
You guys didn’t get my latest religious comment? Very well. It’s not my intention to encourage or incite that kind of argument. Carry on…
