Up 9-3 in the top of the 9th, the team could not even get an out before Cincy tied it. Bivans came in and really had no clue. Not sure why whoever the interim manager even was didn’t pull him a little faster, but I think it was pretty obvious Bivens didn’t have it. He gave up the longest home run into the cove that I’ve ever seen. Then again, Smith came in and nuked the joint. And the rest was errors, walks and general rookie ball crap.
I guess the lockout is a blessing.

The Reds suck, but it’s nice anyway to win 2 in a row. Especially with this talent challenged squad, a lot of whom I have no idea who they are. Some of these guys look like Smurfs, but they’re kinda spunky.
I certainly would rather see this squad of no names play with some energy, misplays and all, regardless of win or lose, than watch the low energy sleepwalk squad — with Adames and Chapman striking out twice per game each — go through the motions.

Even Gilbert last night, that last AB with speedy Mc Cray on 3b bottom 8 with 1 out. ALL he had to do was lift ball in the air, as Krukow said to medium depth and Giants could add more insurance. Instead he swings at outside pitch and lines it right to 3b glove for inning ending DP. Maybe slamming into wall on nice catch he made addled something upstairs.
I’m coming around on Gilbert. He’s stopped his goofy gig and settled in to being a serious player. Clearly a platoon guy 4th or 5th OFer because he can’t hit lefties. But, good with the glove, has a bit of speed, and looks like in the last 6 weeks or so a light has gone off with his hitting approach. I won’t mind seeing him in camp next spring working for 1 of 5 outfield spots. But sure, if they can get 5 better players than him for the OF, I would not mind that even more.
I didn’t say that Willie. No shit – these guys are for the most part not ready for prime time. I just prefer to watch them grind, give 125%, and do whatever they can to stay on the roster.
Conversely, no one on this planet can convince me that Adames or Chapman deserve the moniker, “All Star” before their names . . . Those days are in their rear view mirror (particularly Adumbass). It chaps my ass that both of these guys collect the paychecks that they do.

I wondered why a rich guy would waste time in Ohio. Now I see stories claiming that Jed dork formally moved back there to protest (and if it comes to it to avoid) the billionaire tax on the ballot in California soon. Perfect. Just the threat is fumigating the state.
That tax has a backdated effective tax residency date to 1/1/2026, so moving out after that wouldn’t theoretically save Jed from reach of the tax. No idea when /if he really “moved”. If it passes, the backdated feature would probably be one of the issues in the billionaires’ inevitable legal attack on it. I keep wondering how/why does a billionaire end up in a trailer park in the must-be godforsaken town of E. Palestine, Ohio looking for a $140 happy ending? He’s cheap? There are no $5000 a night or even $1000 a night talents in Youngstown, or even in Cleveland? He figures nobody in E. Palestine will recognize him, or he just wants to get low down? Weird.
I doubt the billionaire prop tax will pass. Too much money in the contra campaign. TV ads already terrorize dimwits about swearing under penalty of perjury to their net worth. I just read where the USS Abraham Lincoln and three other Navy ships in its support group are steaming for San Diego, but first, they will stop in Thailand for a few days of extremely well deserved shore leave R & R. My goodness. Wherever that port is, it better prepare. 5000+ sailors off of a 9+ months at sea taking shore leave? In Thailand? I’m talking about the women sailors, too. Maybe we need some reporting by Paul on what that might look like.
Dolly Parton. Amazing, but not surprising to see all the memorials to her. Not a pop culture icon, but a great American icon. Even Trump did not F this up. Many are saying she’s the last thing that everyone in this beleaguered country can agree on something — that they like/love her. I believe that. I remember as a kid watching her on Johnny Carson, with that amazing chest and bubbly personality, and that HAIR. Johnny looked amazed every time she was on. She and Linda Ronstadt and Emmy Lou Harris got together for some singing way back when, did some recordings and gigs. They were just badass, those three together. All great, but Dolly was the ringleader, for sure. She was funny as hell in “9 to 5”.
BTW, when Linda goes, and I’m still around when that happens, that is going to be a very very very bad day. Like millions of young men during the ’70s, Linda was the bomb. I would have given anything to be alone with her, about 10 years my senior, for a night of “education”. My gawd. What a 5’3″ package of massive talent, smarts and mind blowing looks. She did not go to college, but was / is extremely well read, articulate and as smart as a whip. When she was at the dinner in DC back in or her very late 2019 induction into Kennedy Center Honors, she completely schooled Pompeo, the sec of state, who said some stupid stuff introducing her. When she was hangin’ with Jerry Brown back in ’76, I thought that dude deserved my vote just so she could be the most amazing First Lady / Girlfriend ever. So sad she has been unable to sing now for over a decade from being ill with a nasty form of MS.

I would rest Devers the last two weeks, or turn him into just a DH, or even a PH, and let Eldridge play every day at 1b. Why risk injury in the field to Devers? Sure, he can paper his stats with more ABs, but what’s the point in that? Let somebody else get most of what would have been his ABs.

Agree unc. Devers is playing well. I thought he played well last season too. The park is of course, the great equalizer.
Kind of hoping that next season, he makes some adjustments a la Mays at Candlestick and Bonds at this park. Specifically, Mays adjusted his swing so more balls went to left field versus right, where the wind robbed a lot of his blasts. Insofar as Bonds, he should take steroids . . . I kid, I kid, I kid (sort of).
