Yes, the biggest blown 9th inning league in the 125 year history of the team. They were 2,208-0 when leading by 6 or more in the 9th. Til today.
Up 9-3 in the top of the 9th, the team could not even get an out before Cincy tied it. Bivans came in and really had no clue. Not sure why whoever the interim manager even was didn’t pull him a little faster, but I think it was pretty obvious Bivens didn’t have it. He gave up the longest home run into the cove that I’ve ever seen. Then again, Smith came in and nuked the joint. And the rest was errors, walks and general rookie ball crap.
I guess the lockout is a blessing.

Looks like Wilkinson needs to talk to Woody about how to get people out with lack of heat on the heater. I was hoping for a young Mickey Lolich, but that looks like a stretch. David Wells? Eh, unlikely.
At least he seems to keep pitches in the zone and doesn’t hand the oppo free bases with BBs. Small sample size, but he looks like a #4 or #5 at best if he keeps his control and maybe ratchets up the fastball, somehow, 2-3 mph.
Why do other teams have 6’4″ flamethrowers up and down the staff, and we trade for a guy with a beer gut bigger than mine and a family that looks like they’re all related to the Pillsbury doughboy?
He has zero right to his nickname, “Tugboat” in my opinion (except for his beer gut). Maybe just me, but that is an elite, type of nick name, where you would expect 95-98 heater and other exemplarary type pitches . . . Instead, this guy is some sort of “Caspar Milquetoast.”
Part of the Bailey trade which I’m sure Posey orchestrated allowed Giants the extra comp pick (#29?) that turned into high prospect pitcher Bolemon.
wilkinson in sss was not all that bad. Sawx one of the best teams in baseball lately and nailed 3 comeback wins vs. Sacto giants.
Hope Bericoto is OK. Might be one of few prospects out there today that could be useful in 2027.

Tugboat’s towed that nickname around since he was a child. Slow and steady. It’s ok. He’s better than Borucki. God knows we can use another LH in the pen now that Miller’s gone. His physique and his delivery now are the same as when he pitched in the LL WS. He’s three times the size, yet nothing else has changed. He ain’t losing that gut.
Oppo teams close out the 9th v the Giants like the pitcher is busy flossing his teeth while also getting it done ho-hum 1-2-3.
Giants closer gives up walks, hits people, watches his defense boot grounders and DP chances, then watches the winning run cross the plate. Hilariously putrid are the Gigantes, but no, they’re “not in a rebuild”. Nice to see Cox fire out a dinger. Maybe he has a shot, I love the speed since it’s almost otherwise non-extant on this squad.

At 3.8 BB/9, the Giants’ pitching staff has one of the highest walk rates in baseball. This is compounded by having one of the lowest strikeout rates (7.7 K/9) in baseball.
I get it that Vitello gets a pass, i.e., despite being a blooming idiot, who wants everyone (players) to like him – he’s staying. Why? In one word, MONEY. With $10 million dollars in sunken manager money, including the Tennessee buyout and “free money” Melvin received after his firing (a la club option). Yep, he’s staying.
However, I am hoping these stiffs are gone next season:
Shane Robinson, 1st base coach. Why? For the gazillion times that base runners lost track of how many outs there were and/or made inexplicable bone head decisions on the basepaths (e.g., see Adumbass).
Justin Meccage, pitching coach. Why? See pitching stats.
Frank Anderson, Director of Major League Pitching. Why? See his freaking title, i.e., he “directed” this shit show.

Took 5 guys including Walker and couple Carsons but Giants shut out Reds 5-0 finished off by Smith. Devers 3 run HR, #27. Nice bounce back after tough series in Boston and long flight back without day off and bunch of new teammates.

Prospect guys have chance to show they belong as part of 2027 Giants…or not. Even Walker had 2 clean innings last night. Getting a shot anyway.
Any players on the 40 man roster will be locked out of baseball activities next year so they may be reluctant to move some guys up.

Exactly. I think the consensus is that any guys in the minors at AAA or AA level that are serious prospects are going to stay down on the farm the rest of this season, so that if a lockout happens, they can continue to develop under a 2027 minor league schedule that should not be impacted.
This is under the assumption that a Rule 5 draft (exposing those minor league prospects to poaching by other teams) would NOT happen in case of a lockout. I assume that the Rule 5 situation in a lockout would somehow be communicated to the teams before the 40 man is locked down so that there is no misunderstanding of Rule 5 happening/not happening during a 2027 lockout.

UCL injury is always the fear in something like that. Thing is, he’s not a flamethrower. But, he relies on the changeup — not an EZ pitch on the elbow.
Man, that’s rough, having McDonald, Birdsong and now Whizzy all on the shelf for the foreseeable future. I like all 3 and hope Birdie can figure things out when he returns. Couple years from now, these 3 *could* be 60% of the rotation. But of course nothing is certain, and the team should probably move forward as if none of them will be factors down the road, and if they do bounce back, that’s a bonus.
