We seem to be in the holding pattern of 1 win, 2 losses as this bland flavorless season continues it’s slow march to oblivion.
Looks like the 1985 team of Jimmy Davenport is safe in the knowledge that they will continue to be the one and only 100 loss team in the 144 year history of the NY/SF Gothams/Giants.
I mean, 5 more wins out of 21 games shouldn’t be that hard. Right?

I see this Season starting with lots of motion and ground attack.
Our OL is going to take time to adjust to the new system, however, a WCO should help them once Alex and the WRs get into the necessary rhythm.
Game 1, lots of Gore and Hunter, 9ers win a close one. I do expect Harbaugh to take some deep shots though, VD and Braylon will be a nice duo.

If they have not already, Giants must decide ASAP the real purpose of this season, and act accordingly. Playoffs are lost. 13 games underwater almost mid-June is bad, arguably the worst team not just in the NL, but the entire MLB. Rest of the season, they have to play .632 to get to 87 wins, .568 just to get to .500. That’s climbing K2 with no oxygen.
IMO the purpose of this lost season now is prepare/plan for the future, accumulate and develop more talent. There are several layers to that. Get Eldridge a full slate of experience at the plate and at 1b on defense. Trade expiring contracts (Ray, Arraez) ASAP to get pitching and outfield prospects. They have plenty of infield prospects already. As said above, trade guys that are minor to decent contributors to open up space for prospects to audition and get experience. These guys, like Ramos and Bader, do nothing to advance the future. Absolutely trade one of the 3 monstrosity contracts — Chapman, Adames, Devers. Preferably Chapman to open up 3rd for Schmitt and that opens up the lineup. A lot of you don’t like it, but I would definitely trade Webb right now. His stock is way way WAY up after these last two outings. He would attract a good haul of top AA prospects. This thing is going nowhere, it’s on life support. It needs major surgery to recover, and that doesn’t happen without some pain.

Devers, I like, but Eldridge I am almost 80-90% certain is going to be a big star. He needs to play everyday . . . in the heart of the LU, not 6th or 7th. Frankly, I do not mind keeping Devers, as he can DH or play 1st.
Insofar as Adumbass – partially the reason we lost last night is that his “Ofer 5” with 2 Ks, was a dagger in the heart, as he was 0-2 RISP. Move his ass down to 6th or 7th in the LU, and move Eldridge into the 4 or 5 spot in the LU.
I like Webb and I think it is an act of love, where we allow him to be with a contender. Equally important, as snarrk said, his value is sky high right now, particularly after that gem he pitched last night.

The Pen is definitely a problem, but it’s seems somewhat overblown in the scheme of all the bad things, IMO. They’ve blown 8 saves out of 21 save chances. That’s a save rate of just 62%. Not good, yes. But, what if they blew only 4 or 5 of the 21? Save rates in the 80%+. You’re not going to save 21 of 21 even with a good closer, maybe you get 16-18. Anyway, add 4 or 5 successful saves to the current record and they are still 8-9 games under .500 right now. Still atrocious and out of the playoffs. The real problem is once they are behind, they don’t make comebacks late in the game — after the 6th. What is it now, one win out of 27-28 situations like that? Pathetic, and a killer…
BTW, Vitello is and has been leaking oil, but it’s not even close to all his fault. He won’t/can’t be fired before the season ends, and should not be.
This team didn’t hit or score the first 2 months of the season. The Pen has/had no closer and is populated by a bunch of no names. How many more wins would Bochy get with those assets? 3 or 4? Maybe. And, that’s with proven support coaches. No way Bochy would have this putrid squad at .500 or better.
Vitello’s coaches and other support are failing him. If Winn was not good to go last night, his arm was hanging from a thread, whatever, then Vitello’s coaches and training staff should have been on that point. Were they? Did they tell him that, or shrug their shoulders? What did they do? Did they tell him that and he ignored them — I doubt that. He’s not managing in a vaccuum, at least I hope he’s not. Players are gonna lie about being ready. That’s why coaches are there — they are supposed to have their ears and eyes close on the players to help the manager manage.
BTW, Webb’s interview after the game was weird — he sounded like when Vitello asked, he didn’t tell Vitello one way or another if he could go in the 9th. He said he “left the decision” to Vitello. Huh? Sounds to me from that response is that leaving Webb in was not such a no brainer for the manager.
Vitello needs help and support. Borg was just the most obvious mistake, the team is playing all season too poorly to give the coaching staff hardly any blame. Posey has clearly done Vitelllo no favors in getting him player, Pen and coach support.

Vitello’s apparently bumbling / ill-informed moves last night and others he’s made so far this season are just a microcosm of the decade-long bumbling, bad, stupid, short-sighted, and penny wise and pound foolish on and off-field personnel and development moves made by this Giants ownership and 4 layers of its FO management. He’s the latest symptom and arguably a victim of an organization that’s still adrift, hes not a major cause of the chaos — he hasn’t been around long enough. I wonder what amount of juice he actually had on how this roster was/is shaped and the formulation of the coaching staff, and their roles and authority. You guys may remember this coaching staff was barely completed, if it even was, just before the start of Spring Training. Coaching roles were in flux really late into the Spring. So far, the team has performed like that staff was put together — not very well…
It’s like a 5 MPH car crash that just doesn’t end. It’s not like new management came in and made wholesale changes to derail this train. It has been just a slow take-over by real estate wonks after Magowan and Neukom left.
The farm has been a wreck since the 2010 draft, yielding very little short of Webb in 2014. Maybe guys are in the pipe. It seems like the lower teams are doing well, and Eldridge looks like he very well could be something.
But as we saw in that chart, EVERY team has drafted better than us over the past 10 seasons.
But I really have no idea how much has gone into changing the guys in the trenches in A, AA, AAA, instructional league, rookie league, scouts, etc. over the past regimes from Bochy on.
