99 Losses or Bust

We seem to be in the holding pattern of 1 win, 2 losses as this bland flavorless season continues it’s slow march to oblivion.

Looks like the 1985 team of Jimmy Davenport is safe in the knowledge that they will continue to be the one and only 100 loss team in the 144 year history of the NY/SF Gothams/Giants.

I mean, 5 more wins out of 21 games shouldn’t be that hard. Right?

Krukow was absolutely right, they should’ve walked Abrams at 2-0 2nd & 3rd, or at least not throw a hit-me pitch for a 2-run single. Bullpen strikes again.

If I were Webb, I’d ask for a trade to get off this clown car. Get me to a competitive team with a shot at a run in the playoffs while I can still pitch a lick to help win a post season series or two…

Killian only threw 6 pitches yesterday to Winn’s 19 why wasn’t he in there closing instead?

I’d say that Tony V should let Bochy manage the late innings bullpen, but it wouldn’t matter, they all suck. I mean… it’s hard to fathom how some of these relievers are still on this team. Even harder to believe there aren’t better options in the whole wide world.

You pucker, you panic, you lose command, even if you have some in a non-leverage situation. These guys are not mentally ready or experienced/prepared to close.

    • willedav's avatar willedav says:

Physical ability, not mental. Winn can pitch and get guys out when he has control. He didn’t have it tonight. I just don’t buy guys freezing up in 9th.
Tonight was also 3rd straight game Winn had pitched in, something i didn’t realize. That’s on manager for putting him in that situation. This isn’t 60s.

A game we shouldn’t have lost. Feel bad for “Webb,” who pitched his ass off.

  10. Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen says:

Bullpen is a mess, and V’s handling of it is even worse. If FO doesn’t fix it now, they’ve given up this season.

  11. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

A bad team finds ways to lose even when it plays pretty well. They totally outhit the oppo, yet hit badly with RISP comparatively to the Nats. Pen is a dumpster full of tires on fire.

Webb is being wasted on this team.

Listen to Estes (after game analysis). FREAKING WINN IS WORN OUT, i.e., pitching an inordinate amount of pitches the last few games. WTF is Vitello doing putting him in there??????????????

    • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

And Estes was SPOT ON Blade. You have your ace battling his butt off and wanted the ball but doesn’t get it.Winn was dead tired throwing 19 pitches yesterday 22the game before.Killian only threw 6 yesterday. And he was right about why let their best RBI guy ( 2nd in the league with 1st base open allowed to hit??Dumb stuff

    • willedav's avatar willedav says:

Yes, this. Vitello has mismanaged pen all season. And guess what, his erstwhile closer before, Walker, has had half dozen good outings in Sac, so you know what that means.

  13. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Estes ripping V on his decisions in the 9th.

    He fucking deserves it.

  14. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

In a season full of ridiculous losses, I give this one a top 5, maybe even top 3 especially because it’s at home. Buster’s failure to secure a closer in the off season has turned into a massive F-up…

  15. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Estes is astute, e.g., said Webb should have had that pitch challenge in the 6th inning, which would have struck out that player (forgot his name . . . Anyway, he eventually scored) except . . . guess what? Adames and I forgot the other Giants player used up all our challenges earlier. Cha ching! One more run that WA scored.

    • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Which cost Webb 12 more pitches so he could of been at only 87 pitches going to the bottom of the 9th instead of 99 and V goes with the Winn who’s arm was falling off was ludicrous ..

    • James's avatar James says:

There was one challenge left when Haas fucked that up. Estes pointed out that he didn’t move his glove, which was set up right on the corner and that the no challenge cost Webb 12 extra pitches.

Despite seemingly improving play here and there in the last 7-10 days, the Giants are pretty much back to where they’ve been — 13 games under water. Post season is a pipe dream. This team just does not work as constructed. They need to be sellers, it’s not even close.

  17. James's avatar James says:

I didn’t think it was possible in this day and age to hire a manager who made indisputably stupid decisions …

  18. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

So, where is the supposedly vaunted Tingler as bench coach and the pitching coach supporting/advising on these Pen moves? They’re either in on and OK with these Pen moves, keeping their mouths shut, or Vitello is overriding their contrary advice. Those are the only options in these situations.

  19. Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen says:

Interesting that they’ve got a young rookie manager who had never managed in the pros, and they’ve also got on the payroll 3 former managers with WS rings (Bochy and Baker, Washington with a ring as a coach). If not to help tutor the new young apprentice manager, then why are they there? I wonder if V ever picks their brains. Of course, Baker wasn’t always the best bullpen manager either…

Spurs fans being assaulted in NY for wearing a fucking jersey. Saw 2 videos (separate incidents) and one guy was beaten to a pulp. Disgusting. Hope he survived the attack.
