In a season full of pitching debacles and crushing losses, they managed to pull one out for the ages.
Yes, the biggest blown 9th inning league in the 125 year history of the team. They were 2,208-0 when leading by 6 or more in the 9th. Til today.
Up 9-3 in the top of the 9th, the team could not even get an out before Cincy tied it. Bivans came in and really had no clue. Not sure why whoever the interim manager even was didn’t pull him a little faster, but I think it was pretty obvious Bivens didn’t have it. He gave up the longest home run into the cove that I’ve ever seen. Then again, Smith came in and nuked the joint. And the rest was errors, walks and general rookie ball crap.
I guess the lockout is a blessing.

That was impressive. Devers lines one foul into Cove then 2 pitches later golfs another one into Cove for 3 run bomb.
I’m impressed with how precise the broadcast strike zone border is at the variable tops and bottoms of the zone. It’s fairly easy to predict a challenge outcome.
Kruk and kuip apparently don’t have immediate access to it.
Well, maybe I spoke too soon on the hopes for Tidwell. You can’t walk 5 guys in 4+ frames. And strikes getting too much of the plate. He has good stuff, hasn’t corralled it yet. I suppose that’s what the rest of his 7 or 8 more starts are about.
BTW, he looks like a cross between Tom Tolbert and Hunter Strickland…

Well, Giants offense did more than enough to win this one.
But, what a performance today for the Giants pitching staff.
Disastrous, to put it mildly.
10 walks, 8 of whom scored.
1 hit batter with bases loaded, pushing in a run. In other words, 11 free passes generating 9 gift runs.
Arguably, at this stage of the season, I would gladly trade all of the pitching staff except Webb for other pitchers from other teams, and see what happens the rest of the way. Could not be appreciably worse.
Maybe some of these guys are back next year and will improve, but seriously, right now nobody on this staff shows enough that makes me want to see them again in Spring ’27. As for the pitching coaches — one can argue they don’t have a lot to work with. But, I don’t see how any of them are back next year after this continuing tire fire on the mound.
I have middling hope for Roupp Dee doo but that’s it. None of the rest. Maybe Smith.
Keep smiling Jimmy Davenport as Vitello can still easily improve he’s a worst manager then you ever were.Davenport was setup as scapegoat with an aging team (Kruk&Vida) on a 6 man starting pitching staff that went 40-69, and useless 1 yeat 1B David Green( traded for Jack Clark lol sadness ) and Hackman&Chili off years for everyone resulted in this shit team..
They stagger in with a record of 56-88,fire Davenport bring in Craig 6-12 to get to the Magic 62-100 .. But next year Craig gets Rookies Will Clark&Robbie Thompson &Mitchell a year later and they’re on their way to Humm Baby Days!! Timings everything!
However Tennessean moonshine Vitello has a much stronger starting LU at the start,about the same terrible pitchers/ relievers and now the race is still on for futility..Vitello still in the hunt to be worse then Davenport 5-15 still doable in my book which would tie him at 56-88 maybe the shit can Vitello, doubtful since their still paying Melvin,Tennessee school,And this clown 🤡 a ton of debt.. not to mention the crazy big 3 cough cough salaries.
kat- thanks for the recap. I was sick to my stomach with that clark trade. But I did go to a lot of games in 85. I still think we were the best team to ever lose 100. I used to like watching Gladden and Deer, Uribe took over from Babe Lemaster. Brenly and Trillo played good ball. Not really sure what happened to Leonard and Chili. Still feel sorry for Jimmy being put in that position.

average per player a bit over 5. 40 man roster average a bit over 200. Sounds plausible. But only about a dozen teams are at or above that level (Giants at 195 iirc are 13th). Miami is something like 75.

probably replaces one of stiffs from yesterday that followed Tidwell. MCC says his fastball averages 89.9 and he throws it 61.9% of time, unlike other soft tossers at ML level. ERA was over 5.00 at AAA. this season is also first above A ball, having pitched AA and AAA. what could go wrong?
Man, the early 80s were an absolute travesty for the Giants. Went to a Tuesday night game and the attendance was under 1,000. Like 965.

The continuing, daily debacle of Giants pitching cannot get worse in a practical sense. Tugboat can join the party of auditioners for next season’s staff. His lower minors record isn’t super stellar, but there are some good things for sure.
Maybe he can become the Giants answer to Mickey Lolich…
From 1969-1974 (6 seasons) Lolich pitched 1,873 innings, an average of 312 per season…
