In a season full of pitching debacles and crushing losses, they managed to pull one out for the ages.
Yes, the biggest blown 9th inning league in the 125 year history of the team. They were 2,208-0 when leading by 6 or more in the 9th. Til today.
Up 9-3 in the top of the 9th, the team could not even get an out before Cincy tied it. Bivans came in and really had no clue. Not sure why whoever the interim manager even was didn’t pull him a little faster, but I think it was pretty obvious Bivens didn’t have it. He gave up the longest home run into the cove that I’ve ever seen. Then again, Smith came in and nuked the joint. And the rest was errors, walks and general rookie ball crap.
I guess the lockout is a blessing.

The young SPs, Roupp Whiz and whomever, do need role models on how professionals act and prepare to pitch as long and successfully as Webb does. Webb is definitely a leader for them. Take him away and they have no one around to learn from by example. All young players need someone like that.

Then Adames boots the DP grounder hit right to him, the second run scores instead of inning ending twin kill. I don’t want to hear it came up on him, he was right in front of it, that’s a ball a good SS eats for lunch.
This guy is a one man wrecking crew. You can’t have a competitive MLB team with a shortstop, the most important defensive position outside of catcher, at the bottom of the entire league’s defensive stats. And, blocking other asset acquisitions with his massive contract. In the offseason, do whatever it takes to get rid of him.
Why are the Giants batters not even appealing bad strike calls when they have an appeal available in extras? Where is the coaching on this?

all they have to do is lose every series from now until the end of September. They don’t need to get swept, just get whipped, and 100 is in the bag.
The last two games certainly make it look like 100 losses is a lock. They have got to get other players up here to see what they can do. At the plate, this lineup sucks donkey dong, and in the field they are absolute merde, mentally and physically. Devers stood there and looked at what should have been a double, but his laziness kept it at a single. The whole team, coaches included, act like they’ve found a long lost stash of ludes…
This is inexcusable. It looked like the Giants did not know they have a new ABS challenge in extras because they had none at the end of 9. That’s the rule. They did not question called 3rd strikes!!!!

20 games under .500 now a season best at 49-69!! Jim Davenport smiling in his grave as his shortened forgettable record in 1985 of 56-88 has a chance to be broken by Tony Vitello if they go 6-20 in the next stretch of 26 games,it’s doable!!

stories I’m seeing that Atlanta wanted to trade for Webb but settled for Mahle don’t surprise me. Buster is not sentimental, but he knew Webb as a rookie call up, helped turn him into an ace in 21, and has observed his leadership in the clubhouse the past few years. He understands Webb’s value, especially when there’s no other pitcher on the roster remotely comparable.

He’s had 700 ABs in Coast League for Giants hitting around .260, maybe league average at best with 15 errors at SS in just over 100 games.
Might be capable backup, but not taking Adames or anyone else job next season.
Webb was clapping on mound yesterday during Giants tribute to Verlander. Called him “mentor for life” and said, “I was lucky enough to be around him for a year.”
Giants, like everyone else, need guys like this on roster. In Dusty Baker’s excellent “Crossroads” he refers endlessly to what he learned during time spent with Hank Aaron in ATL, and also to many others that have helped him along way. Excellent read btw.
some second line commenter wondered why Devers isn’t playing 3B now, Eldridge 1B. Rafi was there full time two years ago, but only once last year, true. OTOH he’s been pretty agile at 1B. His picks have missed but he’s handled hot grounders just fine. Hell, you’d think he’d be demanding it….
Basabe stinks as in infielder Chuck especially SS, I’m more excited to see Marcelo Mayer playing SS after finishing up a rehab he might be ready ( he was the 4th overall pick in his draft by Redsox’s)to start their next road trip.. Giants have like 6-7 SS in system with Klein the closest to major league, yeah we’re all sick of Adames but they won’t eat that contract nor likely find a trade partner in winter, it sucks but that’s the reality..

Spending $$ to dump Big 3 isn’t biggest problem–it’s spending it wisely enough to improve pitching. Interesting to see if Tidwell can show he’s legit SP going forward which wasn’t original role for him iirc.
