In a season full of pitching debacles and crushing losses, they managed to pull one out for the ages.
Yes, the biggest blown 9th inning league in the 125 year history of the team. They were 2,208-0 when leading by 6 or more in the 9th. Til today.
Up 9-3 in the top of the 9th, the team could not even get an out before Cincy tied it. Bivans came in and really had no clue. Not sure why whoever the interim manager even was didn’t pull him a little faster, but I think it was pretty obvious Bivens didn’t have it. He gave up the longest home run into the cove that I’ve ever seen. Then again, Smith came in and nuked the joint. And the rest was errors, walks and general rookie ball crap.
I guess the lockout is a blessing.

From the little I’ve read, I’m fine with what they got for Arraez. He’s a short term rental, no guarantee he stays with the Phills. They got a pretty good starter prospect and a kind of shot in the dark reliever prospect. They needed arms, they got arms. The only thing I would have hoped is that one of the two could have been a AA level player, which should give some more predictability of success. Anyway, they got it done, now it looks like Ray is up next.
Gausman just got flipped from the Jays to the Cubs. We’ll see how his package compares to Ray’s.
On Ray and the padres, i told my son that at least the Gs will know to work the counts when they finish out the season series. As if Vitello would do that, he replied.
For Gausman, the Cubs gave up:
Ty Southisene: A 21-year-old shortstop, ranked as the Cubs’ No. 13 prospect. Brett Bateman: A 24-year-old outfielder, ranked as the Cubs’ No. 21 prospect.
Doesn’t seem like a lot for a starter rental. Although Ray has much better stats this season. You could argue the Giants got more for Arraez.

Pads are getting Ray in exchange for two pitchers.
A 24 year old AA prospect ranked 10th in their system and a 17 year old low A short stop prospect ranked 21st. Without more info, at first blush seems a little light to me.
To clarify, not two pitchers. One pitcher and one infielder.
Now, I’m hearing the Pads prospects are rated #4 and #10 in their system. Sounds better. The info out there is fuzzy right now.
Haven’t even talked about Killian also going to the Phills in the Arraez deal. I don’t see that as much either way. He was on/off from good to horrible. I’ll forget he was on the team by end of the season if not sooner.
Killian to Phils is quite sea change. He’s on team in pennant race, full of notoriously gloomy Phils fans, and in completely different type of yard, with real summer weather and shorter fences.
If the Giants are getting guys in trade returns that if things go well, won’t help the big club until mid-late 2028 at the earliest, more likely 2029, why not just trade Webb today and get all you can for him? His contract is done at the end of 2028, and the Giants actions are telegraphing they believe they are not going to be playoff spot competitive through 2028.
Agree, just do a complete overhaul and call it a day. At least next year we will have a bunch of unknowns that some of em just might end up being something.
Of course, they’re hampered from finishing a complete overhaul because of ChAD’s contracts.
and how about Ramos? So far Buster et al have done pretty well.
I’d like to see them spend some money on a few mlb proven starters and relievers including a closer on one and two year deals. $$$$$ but worth it as all the kids develop.

Coupla days ago I said the Giants needed to trade 4 to 6 guys. They traded 6. Good. I have no idea if any of the talent returned to the Giants will be any good in a year, two years or anytime thereafter. That will come out in the wash. Mostly, Buster got pitchers, because that is what they need. I’ll give him a good grade for effort today. Will he get a good grade down the road for effective trades — time will tell.
Meanwhile, I think it reasonable that the team will now get worse this season. Look out 20+ games underwater upcoming. If young guys and prospects now have spots to play and prove/not prove their mettle, I say that’s good for the future and analyzing the existing talent in the system. Buckle up for a lot more tough games to watch, with the occasional breakout work by a youngster.
per mlb.com active roster, giants added Sanmartin, Beck, Seymour and Tidwell to 13 man pitching staff. I only see 12 hitters, with Kennedy returning.
Ugh. Beck, Winn, Seymour still around, and now Houser will probably move to the rotation (maybe Winn too). Sometimes you gotta take one step backward to go 2 steps forward, but the remainder of this season is going to look like 10 steps back……
Overall pretty good haul for the Giants 8 players for 6 that’s a win , got like 3 top 50 prospects and added depth and shed 4-5 M on salary even eating some of Rachel Rays contract..Arreaz I hated it. , but I bet we get him back next year, Ron Washington worked miracles on his defense, hey he gets a chance for a ring so that cool .,
