In a season full of pitching debacles and crushing losses, they managed to pull one out for the ages.
Yes, the biggest blown 9th inning league in the 125 year history of the team. They were 2,208-0 when leading by 6 or more in the 9th. Til today.
Up 9-3 in the top of the 9th, the team could not even get an out before Cincy tied it. Bivans came in and really had no clue. Not sure why whoever the interim manager even was didn’t pull him a little faster, but I think it was pretty obvious Bivens didn’t have it. He gave up the longest home run into the cove that I’ve ever seen. Then again, Smith came in and nuked the joint. And the rest was errors, walks and general rookie ball crap.
I guess the lockout is a blessing.

Disappointing he didn’t take a strike first after watching two hitters who love to hack draw unlikely walks. The second pitch he waved at was no better than the first that he let go by. The previous AB when he did eventually double, he took a fat 3-1 fastball expecting slop. He’s in one of those stretches ….

IMO they don’t have the mindset, the approach to focus on getting bat on ball no matter what, and make the defense make a play, be it on the infield or a sac fly try. Mind boggling how constantly inept they are in those situations. The “they’re trying too hard” excuse is also long since rendered meaningless …

Last 2 weeks, i.e., 11 games, he is 4 for 37, with 15 Ks (40.5% K rate on ABs) and OPS of .450. That’s OPS, not SLG.
Maybe he’ll start hitting again after the AS break…

The Giants save both their 2 ABS appeals to the very end of the game, for some reason, so Arraez doesn’t even use one on a high called strike. Seriously, what’s the downside batting with 2 down in the 9th, just appeal it, even if not just for the helluvit. Is there any team more clueless on how to play this game?

Watching replay on Adumbass getting doubled off.
He stopped 6-8 feet before 2nd base and just watched the CFer catch the ball. He turned around and started his scoot back towards first base literally when the CFer closed his glove on the catch, and looked back over his shoulder at the CFer while starting the crisis return back to 1b. Why on earth would you go that far towards second on a pop fly to the middle of centerfield? If he stops 15-20 feet from 2b and watches the CFer, he still makes it easily to 2b if there is a muff, and makes it back to 1b — if there is a catch.
I don’t know whether this guy has low to no baseball instincts, is clueless, or something else. Even a middling baser runner doesn’t make that bad of a running mistake, the whole play was in front of him as he ran towards second.
Mind-boggling ineptitude for $183 million…

I will tell you what I absolutely love about this “train wreck” (Unc’s description above) of a season . . . The fact that we are able to see more of Schmitt, and rookies – Eldridge, Susac, Bericoto, Rodriguez, Cavanaugh, and Cox. When can you recall seeing so many minor league players, particularly Double AA players, being called up? Waiting? Waiting? Waiting? This is only on the hitting side. I wont even mention all the pitchers that have made the trip to the big club.
For example, this new kid, Cavanaugh is a former 17th-round pick who quickly hit his way out of Double-A earlier this season and was dominating Triple-A, too. The 24-year-old had a .999 OPS across those two levels before Friday’s promotion, and he picked up his first career hit in his second at-bat, lining a clean single up the middle. Cavanaugh drew a walk his next time up.
It’s fairly obvious that the team’s won/loss record; coupled with Posey’s win now attitude; along with his dissatisfaction of players playing poorly or being injured (Chapman, Devers, Adames, Bader, Ramos) is the reason why these young guys are gettting an opportunity. Anyway, I am hoping that these new guys continue to blossom.
The Giants can do a “rebuild” if they just do it, but don’t call it that.
For example, Bader. The guy has disappeared because of his foot injury. Leave him the hell alone. He’s not a long term help to this team. Keep him on the IL for as long as possible, then trade him for a bag o’ balls or just cut him lose when he’s ready to come back. His salary is already half gone — wasted mostly.
Focus on playing the youth, see where they are in their development. I can handle a Cox drop in CF when he inadvertently hits the wall in a park he’s learning about. Next time, he’ll be more careful to size up where he is in respect to the wall. If Bader drops it, what good is it that he does that — nothing, it’s just an error for a guy who is a short-timer anyway. I still don’t understand the point of his signing…
Bader was signed because of Lee’s inconsistent CF play, as well as Yaz being traded away to the Braves. His hitting was always going to be suspect (i.e., he reached his “nadir” last season in that department). I’m digressing though . . . Although Bader is an excellent CF defensively, we need someone that can hit the damn ball.
Well, that person is Lee, whom is finally blossoming it would seem. However, as you alluded to, Cox can play that position too and with seasoning/familiarity with the park, I suspect that he’ll be outstanding in CF. Lee has shown in the last month, he found “nirvana” in right field, making numerous outstanding plays. More important, the dude seems to have found himself as a consistent hitter, with some power, e.g., leading Arraez in OBP and BA; OPS of .831, leading all the power hitters not named Eldridge and Schmitt.
. . . My bad – Lee does lead Schmitt in OPS, sooooo only one starter, Eldridge, has a higher OPs.
Not really a WAR guy, but for what it’s worth, Cox is 0.4 WAR* and Devers is 0.5 WAR (with exponentially more chances to succeed and improve upon that number).
*On FBI’s Missing Person’s list all season (lqtm).
Great day of racing at churchill downs in last weekend of meet. Baffert has number of horses stabled there, though with rain on dirt course he has scratched few from running. Does make you wonder bit about future of racing in California. hmmn

Fail to be impressed by any of Giants “kids” they’re getting look at except for Bericoto and I’d include Gilbert in there. Cox has been to plate 24 times and K’d 12 of them plus effing up couple long balls in CF. Cavanaugh might make it, but him advancing says more about suckitude of Rodriguez (struggling to hit AAA pitching and needing more work behind plate) than anything. whether Posey wants to admit it or not Giants C has dropped off defensively since he got rid of Bailey.
The top prospects in middle IF and OF are still year or two out. those are guys i’m watching/waiting on.
SSS but for now seems like Eldridge and mostly stiffs, Susac included.
Hilarious. Gilbert is ONLY playing because of Vitello’s relationship with him from college. To date, he still doesn’t have a hit against a lefty. Cox led the entire Giants organization in stolen bases back-to-back years in 2024 and 2025, racking up 58 stolen bases in each of those seasons. Cox isn’t just a speed merchant; he has shown an incredible knack for putting the ball in play, e.g., during his collegiate career at Oral Roberts, he gained national attention by piecing together a 47-game hitting streak, which is tied for the third-longest in NCAA history.
Before his recent call-up to the Big Leagues, he absolutely torched Double-A pitching with the Richmond Flying Squirrels, posting a spectacular .400 batting average (64-for-160) along with 11 doubles, 5 triples, and 6 home runs over 44 games.
I’m even glad Gilbert is getting a chance to play, i.e., YOU MISSED MY ENTIRE POINT insofar as this season being totally LOST – we should see who can play and who can’t play for the Giants. However, you go ahead and keep rooting for your heroes – Chapman, Devers, and Adumbass.
Gilbert is a platoon player who does reasonably well vs. RHP per B/R splits). He was OK in April, worse since. If Vitello wanted to play him and Cox to see who emerges as decent enough CF to hang onto, no problem. But be real man-Cox isn’t in college or AA anymore. That stuff is irrelevant.
Vitello wouldn’t play Oliva (picked up by somebody) or Brennan or Kennedy. And he doesn’t seem disposed to rest the IF vets so until someone is traded, I don’t see kids there either. Yet.

Why does it seem that the Giants have decided to neuter the GM position? Z had a couple of GMs that I never even saw, never even read being quoted, don’t even remember their names. One left after a very short stint; the other reassigned after Z was gone. Now this other Minasian seems like just another ghost GM. If he was doing good things, we’d probably notice, right? I don’t really get it. I guess both Z and Buster have bigger personalities and get the attention.
More of an assumption here, but I think he is heavily into scouting, as his background was serving as the Giants’ Director of Professional Scouting starting in 2019 and moving up to Vice President of Professional Scouting in 2022.
But yeah, I really never hear about what he actually does, and never hear a peep out of him that isn’t filtered by the Club/Posey.
Adames did his best to give up an early run. Some other team must need a SS who can hit 30 HRs.

Yeah we’re keeping Devers, 2 big Bombs 4 RBI’s and decent enough glove at 1st.Plus you don’t find that bat speed on many players.Yeah feast are fathom with the K’s but the whole team ( minus Arreaz does that)
