We seem to be in the holding pattern of 1 win, 2 losses as this bland flavorless season continues it’s slow march to oblivion.
Looks like the 1985 team of Jimmy Davenport is safe in the knowledge that they will continue to be the one and only 100 loss team in the 144 year history of the NY/SF Gothams/Giants.
I mean, 5 more wins out of 21 games shouldn’t be that hard. Right?

I see this Season starting with lots of motion and ground attack.
Our OL is going to take time to adjust to the new system, however, a WCO should help them once Alex and the WRs get into the necessary rhythm.
Game 1, lots of Gore and Hunter, 9ers win a close one. I do expect Harbaugh to take some deep shots though, VD and Braylon will be a nice duo.

Wow, bombshell reporting by Rosenthal — the Giants are open for business to trade just about anybody on the team. Who would have guessed THAT? LOL. If they weren’t doing that right now, the entire FO should be let go.
Laskey, the ex-SF pitcher and mostly doofus on KNBR pre and post game, actually said something this morning that is exactly right along those lines — this team is so bad that nobody, nobody should be off the trade table except Eldridge; not even Webb — though he reluctantly said that…
So, the question is what roster players from Club Woebegone would actually attract any serious trade suitors without huge $ take backs by the Giants? IMO, those would be Webb, Arraez, Ray, Ramos, Schmitt, Lee, MacDonald, Susac. Maybe I missed one, doesn’t matter. Of those, I would keep the last 4 beginning with Schmitt. MacDonald is shaky, but it’s early and looks intriguing as a developmental player. God knows if the Giants can do that (hello, Harrison).
The three contract disasters of Adames, Devers and Chapman — nobody will want them without massive $ kicked in by the Giants, which the Giants should do (and can clearly afford) for at least one of them this season to unblock this roster for young player movement to their proper positions. Hard to choose among those 3, but I am down with blade — I would jettison Adames immediately if someone would take him. Put Schmitt at SS, and move forward. If Arraez is moved, as he should be, then bring up Koss as a band-aid to play 2nd for the rest of this lost season.
With Adames gone, sort out SS over the off season, see if next Spring in Scottsdale any of the farm SSs could prove themselves early ala Crawford, and move Schmitt to 2nd. He can’t play outfield forever. If you can move Chapman in the offseason or next, then Schmitt takes over at third, where he should be. Re-sign Arraez if you can (unlikely) or get another vet 2nd sacker with a decent pedigree if Koss is not the answer there (probably not). If nobody will bite before the deadline on the Adames S-sandwich, trade Chappie to a contender who could use him, and eat whatever $ is required. Schmitt takes 3rd, and you suffer with Adames the rest of the season — then work like hell to trade his ass before 2027 season begins. Devers stays to see if he can get out of his funk — IMO the ballpark is messing up his mind. At Fenway, he’s gold, at ATT, the right center field of death has him completely flumoxed so he’s not even going oppo anymore.
I see Adames as the biggest problem, so he’s the top target for moving this season optimally, or in offseason to next Spring — at the latest. Getting rid of him is imperative. He is a roster killer, and a crappy defensive shortstop to boot; not to mention, as Brenly said, he’s a clown. What an expensive bust by Buster, all because this organization wildly failed to find and develop a successor to Crawford, though they had 6-7 years heads up to do it...
Good luck with that. Bottom line it’s not happening unless Giants take back an equally bad contract in exchange; remember they made Sox take $30 mil worth of Hicks deal in Devers trade. I said something about Dansby Swanson of Cubs as an example, owed $81 mil over next 3 years…and an even worse hitter by a lot than Adames. Giants can dream on about trading him but he’s nigh on untradeable until he starts to hit like the one month he did last year.

Adames might have worst contract, but he’s not their biggest problem–it’s pitching. since SF decided not to pay for high priced SP nor closer, now they are stuck. It’s too bad Ray has been so bad as i’m sure they would have loved to move him at deadline but value has declined noticeably. The rotation is Webb and nothing but kids and pen is still evolving, for lack of better word.
Unequivocally agree that pitching is our problem, but how do you get pitching? You trade one or more of your hitters, i.e., read my post below . . .
Adames is tough to trade, duh. That why you pay part of his salary to make it happen. Get him the hell out to make room for younger position talent (Scmhitt, then next year or year after which hyped farmhand actually can do the job) that is just as good/bad as he is/will be then, at 1/20 the price. Take back half his paycheck, and overall, you get his talent level for 1/10 his price. Sell Webb to get some of the obviously needed young pitching talent. He would generate a haul, given his 2+ years on a sweet lower-priced deal for his high, proven talent level.
You can’t just get more pitching by wishing for it, you’ve got to trade for it or develop it from drafts. Right now, the farm is bare of decent arms, so trade a very good starter that is useless to a POS team right now for a couple or more of top arm prospects. Hell, in 2 years when Webb’s deal is done and he’s been to the post season once or twice with a real baseball team, bring him back for old times sake. Except, his arm may be shot by then, or if not, he’s probably too smart to come back to SF…
I am hoping Buster “thinks outside of the proverbial box.” For example, the Bums are perpetually trying to patch their shortstop hole. With Mookie Betts shifting around the diamond or being injured, LA desperately lacks a permanent, elite power threat at short to anchor the bottom half of their order. Just this year, Betts, Rojas, and Kim have played SS.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know the Giants never trade with the Dodgers . . . I agree that Posey shouldn’t trade Adames inside the division unless he forces the Dodgers to bleed top-tier young pitching. Posey should demand one of LA’s elite young arms (like Josiah Gray or a high-end package including pitching prospect Jackson Ferris) to fortify the Giants’ starting rotation.

How about this? Orlando Arcia’s bat has gone completely cold, and Atlanta is chasing a championship window. They are a premier power-hitting organization that would salivate at adding Adames’ 30-homer profile to their lineup. Posey should target the Braves’ deep reservoir of young pitching or ask for a high-leverage bullpen piece and an athletic, high-ceiling outfield prospect to provide depth.
The Giants would likely love to trade at least one of their expensive veterans like Devers, Adames or Chapman, but the odds of another team willingly taking any of those contracts on are slim, if not none. Bottom line? “Gatorade” Adames is a mistake, particularly at our park. We already have a SS in waiting, with Schmitt (or 3rd base or 2nd base – should we trade Chapman and/or Arraez). Minimally, we have to do something about 1 of these 3 contracts. Why? It clears the books and provides financial flexibility going forward.
All this sound and fury will signify nothing. This team doesn’t want to eat any contracts. Here’s all the guys that teams would want.

Chappie may or may not be amenable to a trade. You’d think he’d want to be somewhere where he’s needed for a playoff push, but really, he can simply skate here with little to no resistance.

Braves have Austin riley (stats on steep slide over last 2 years at 3b, with slash line of .203/.287/.348. Braves on hook for 6 more years @$22mil each. I’m sure they’d love to move him, but would Giants take part of that one to move Chapman?
Everyone has their favorite villain among the big 3 underachievers. For all that, I have a sneaking suspicion a couple of them, if not all three might have better second halves.
What if they’d signed the two Suarez’s to help the rotation and bullpen, respectively? Assuming similar performances in SF – both of these guys have been very consistent – SF would have about 40 fewer runs allowed, putting them a lot closer to 500.
Every year there’s some outlier team that either way out or under performs its total OPS. This year it’s the Giants. So far, they’ve scored about 40 fewer runs than expected. Besides the low team OBP, the slugging percentage (not the BA) in the majority of RISP situations has been poor. Maybe trade in a few of those grand slams for a lot more doubles and bombs with runners on first and second. Not sure if that fully accounts for the deficiency in runs scored. It does suggest that the scoring has a good chance to pick up in the second half. Suarez X 2 could have made things interesting.
Fun fact: After the trade, Patrick Bailey’s 2026 OPS is higher than Cal Raleigh’s.
Raleigh has had injury issues since season get go. Out to IL since May 13. Sports chatter and reports up here all along is he’s played hurt possibly in the WBC where he cratered at bat, and definitely in pain out of the season’s gate in April into May with weak/late swing due to right oblique until it got too bad to continue. Off the IL today supposedly.
Comparing Raleigh’s stats so far to Bailey’s doesn’t seem particularly relevant given that injury history…

on Bloomsday the allusions to Coleridge (albatross) and Shakespeare (sound and fury) make sense to me. Trade talk rarely does. We don’t know enough about the markets. We only know which players we want to jettison.
basic problem for me with this team is how unsympathetic those players are. I really enjoy watching Arraez, Lee, Schmitt, Eldridge and Webb. Chapman, too, but I understand contrary views there. I’d be pleased to have some reason to applaud poor Walker but I doubt that’s happening. Otherwise, I couldn’t care less.

zzz. Even with their struggling SS the first place NL Central Brewers are 43-26, playing over .600 ball and have scored 3rd most runs in the NL, behind only dodgers and Nats.
They freely let Adames walk after 2024 and haven’t looked back since. they are model organization for draft and development without going overboard on spending for FAs–they probably have more SS in pipeline.

In 2026, the Giants have scored 55% of the time on a single with a runner at second. The NL avg. this year is 58%.
Well, SF is lower than the average, so they are among the leaders in that dubious category, at least in the NL. Any stats on the MLB, not just NL?
MLB avg is also 58%.
For context, the numbers that we’re talking about for the Giants are 31 singles with 17 RBI. Teams with higher OBPs will obviously have more runners at 2nd, but they’re still relatively few in absolute terms at this point in the season.
And to be clear, I just used the runner on second scenario and didn’t include first and second. It’s a pain in the ass to calculate.

Much as I hate to admit it but other than maybe Chapman the one guy who would bring back the most in prospect capital, especially controllable young pitching, would be Casey Schmitt. Arraez is keeper for me–offer him an extension and see what he says. The IF prospects won’t be here til 2028 at best. He’s OB machine and fields his position well, besides being fun to watch unlike 90% of roster (mgr included).

We can talk all we want but Schmitt isn’t going anywhere. Neither is Webb or Eldgridge. This is a casual fan base and they love their local guys. They even consider Chappie a local so he’s gonna stick I’d think.
