Looks like the 1985 team of Jimmy Davenport is safe in the knowledge that they will continue to be the one and only 100 loss team in the 144 year history of the NY/SF Gothams/Giants.
I mean, 5 more wins out of 21 games shouldn’t be that hard. Right?

I see this Season starting with lots of motion and ground attack.
Our OL is going to take time to adjust to the new system, however, a WCO should help them once Alex and the WRs get into the necessary rhythm.
Game 1, lots of Gore and Hunter, 9ers win a close one. I do expect Harbaugh to take some deep shots though, VD and Braylon will be a nice duo.

Webb will seldom have more trade value, now after a third top notch start in a row. Trading him makes sense, he’s throwing a great game again today, but even if the Giants win this one, they still lose the series. So, battle won, war lost. Then, onto Atlanta, where chances are they will lose that series, if not get swept.
Keeping Webb instead of getting a big trade haul of prospects for him is just not smart future management, IMO. This team is going nowhere this year, likely not next. All Webb starts do are provide a shot of “feel good” between the jackassery, and don’t even guarantee a win anyway. Trade him…

Vitello leading charmed life today. Giants have at least 4 bloops that fell for hits the Cubs couldn’t catch. He’s bunted twice when he didn’t need to and both times hitters drove in run from 2nd. Lee saved a run etc. when Webb’s pitch got hammered into the corner after Vitello left him in. He has Schmitt steal bag that turns into run on another bloop hit by Susac. Sometimes better to be lucky than good.
Yeah, overall a feel good day with the win. Probably not the same for anyone else, but I personally can take very little joy in 1 win, followed by 2 or 3 losses. Frankly, Webb had to pitch 7 or 8 innings of almost 1 or no runs allowed, to have a chance to win this game. That’s how bad our bullpen is.
We need a real good housecleaning by ownership/Posey, so yes, I agree with snarkk, that Webb should be traded this season. Again, that’s only the beginning though. This team needs CPR and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) quickly . . .
The alternative to a “real good housecleaning” (CPR and AED) is 4-5 more seasons of rebuilding. We all saw how well that played out with Zaidi. Anyway, onwards and upwards we go to Atlanta . . .
Yeah, blade. A good, widespread housecleaning is in order, including ossified officials, scouts and other personnel in the organization that have contributed to this mess. It won’t happen, unfortunately. Posey will make some player moves, but likely stop short of making really organization-changing stuff. The ship doesn’t just need a course correction, it needs dry-docking and re-fit.
Sabes traded Matt Williams, and caught crap, but it was proved the right thing to do. Posey should be as or more bold. 9 years of crap results out of 10 are the support for it. Assuming touted AA and high A players are guaranteed in 2-3 years to save this ship is a big assumption, based on past hype of farmhands. Stock up on young position player assets and arms, build around Eldridge — the more the merrier…

Adames with a robust 0-4, leaving 4 RISP with 2 out. OPS now at .692. He should be batting in the 8 hole. Maybe he’ll wake up in the heat of Hotlanta. Devers got a hit and a BB, shockingly no Ks — now OPS at .706. Since the Devers trade, SF is something like 26 games under .500 over both seasons — ouch …
He’s basically been the equivalent of 36 year old Albert Pujols, but with even more years left on the contract. I’m not feeling hopeful the performance is going to improve much. The net WAR for 2026 is -1.8. Maybe we don’t really want to see more of Buster the Bold.
Not making excuses for anyone, but Adames seems entirely untradeable, until the one month he explodes. Only way that would happen is the other team makes Posey take back a Dansby Swanson type contract: 3 more years @$80 million. He’s likely an improvement defensively but an even worse hitter than Adames. He’s currently hitting .179 with OPS under .600, 100 full points worse than Adames.
Bottom line Giants are stuck with him.

No you cannot trade Webb, ever. You have 162 games to get through next year, 30 starts by 5 guys +. Giants currently have exactly no one beside Webb capable of doing that. How many more Housers and Mahle starts do you want to see?
He sends a message to all the yutes (Roupp et al) with his performance today–throw strikes (not meatballs) and be prepared to be efficient enough to throw 100 pitches before 5th inning.
It doesn’t matter who or what “prospects” you get back–99% sure bet none will ever bring value he does. He’s signed for 2 more years; maybe by then one or two of his potential replacements might be ready. Not now.
If Buster Posey pulls the trigger, the Giants wouldn’t just get “some very good prospects” – they should be demanding a historic, franchise-altering package. We are talking multiple Top-50 prospects, including near-major-league-ready bats that can slot right into the middle of the lineup by next spring.
Webb is pitching beautifully right now, and because he’s locked down on a highly team-friendly contract through 2028, his trade value will never be higher than it is at this exact moment. To a desperate contender looking for a frontline starter with years of control, Webb is worth a king’s ransom.

Now, have I suggested getting rid of Chapman, Adames, and/or Devers in previous posts? Absolutely. However, even an 11 year old kid recognizes that 2 of the 3 guys have ironclad contracts . . . with only Devers without a no-trade clause.
Ergo . . . Absolutely, it will be near impossible to trade the aforementioned players, particularly with this ownership that spends the majority of its time – counting “sold out” gate, TV, and parking receipts money; i.e., they are content with being a middling team going nowhere, as long as the money keeps “cha chinging” away.
Realize too the Giants have #4 pick in draft this year, pretty much guaranteed to be solid player, whether they take IF/SP. However they cannot draft higher than 10th next season, so tanking this year will not do them any favors in the 2027 draft.

Devers was also traded away for young talent drafted by the previous regime, which is essentially what any upcoming Posey trades will likely be targeting. Harrison at 24 has also seemed to settle in after a rough first couple of years, like Webb did. That the rotation is the single biggest SF failure point makes the results of the trade a little more painful. Devers can still turn it around with a strong finish that reassures he’s going to provide real future value ….

A couple of years ago, he looked like he was ready to slot into the rotation as a pretty fair Gausman imitation (97-98 mph, good split) when an arm injury derailed him. Now he’s back on the IL after being used 3 straight games over the weekend in 20+ pitch outings. A dude who’s already had major arm troubles. The nonsensical line ups and early inning bunting are annoying, but relatively inconsequential …. It’s supposedly a short stay. We get to enjoy more Tristan Beck in the mean time.

He gave up the game-tying home run 2 days before the meltdown. Oh, not the last 22 appearances.

Chuck, if there are several more outings like the two that you seem to have formed your judgment of him on, his WHIP, ERA and HR/9 will reflect that and he’ll no longer be having a nice season. He may also wind up with a longer stint on the IL before that happens.
yeah, just to be clear: last year Randy Rodriguez had a .888 whip. At one point, early in the season, his FIP was are you kidding me negative. And he lasted long enough to make the AS team.

As James mentioned, Devers OPS with Giants over 162 games and 616 ABs is .760. Career with Boston it was .859. He’s actually done well enough at home here, but both OB and Slugging off significantly, despite great May he had. Interesting to see Eldridge getting some run at 1b.
Rosenthal column in TA highlights part of the problem of Giants making trades: with Webb off the table (given pitching woes totally understandable) other than Arraez who is there of any value likely to bring back much? Ray has been awful and is owed rest of $25 mil for this year.
