99 Losses or Bust
We seem to be in the holding pattern of 1 win, 2 losses as this bland flavorless season continues it’s slow march to oblivion.
Looks like the 1985 team of Jimmy Davenport is safe in the knowledge that they will continue to be the one and only 100 loss team in the 144 year history of the NY/SF Gothams/Giants.
I mean, 5 more wins out of 21 games shouldn’t be that hard. Right?
Lee’s hitting streak is about to go.
Bryce the whole offense with 3 of the 4 hits including his 5th HR .Arreaz the other hit extends his streak to 12games, but unfortunately with Devers K to end it Lee didn’t get a crack of extending his to 19..
Yep Cy Assad owns the Giants..
Yes, he got 7/9ths of a no hitter….. lot of zeroes batting 3 through 9…..
So…turns out 4 different pitchers who were in last night’s game on Pride Night chose to take mound and mess up (or in one case refuse to wear rainbow hat at all) the hat with their own biblical references. hmmnn as members of Giants, in San Francisco
Roupp talked about it later. NY Post and SF Gate already have stories about it. wonder who thought this was OK, from Vitello on up/down.
didn’t watch a lot of the game itself (basketball was more interesting) but Kruk has a gay son who did ballet iirc. Doubt he would say anything even to KNBR who hopefully wouldn’t go there.
their charitable work, serving free passes and meatballs even to their enemies, is an inspiration to us all.
LULZ!!!
The important point is that disagreement with a specific lifestyle does not equal hate. Sheesh, this country has so many issues today. Conversely, many years ago we could agree to disagree . . . However, with the infusion of the LGBTQ in corporate America and sports, athletes are expected to affirm, accept and ally with this movement. That’s not freedom, that’s coercion. Same goes for the MAGA ass hats.
Roupp, you’re a shitty pitcher, albeit, not the “Lone Ranger” on this putrid staff. Regardless, you were right last night to inscribe the biblical passages on your hat, regardless of what some folks think.
Good job, Blade…
Looking forward to the Knicks & Spurs game. Go Knicks!
The pitching staff has already done enough to alienate the Bay Area fan base. Dumb idea to compound it. But guys wear cross earrings and necklaces (I mean, chains) all the time with their unis. Adding little religious epithets to their hats doesn’t seem so outlandish. No more offensive than corporate logos, right? And I do enjoy seeing people free to express themselves and to live their lives the way they want to live.
OTOH, as WillieD suggested, the little protest last night does make you wonder whether V has any power to control the mediocrities on the staff.
mlb.com story going in was “join the Giants in celebrating Pride Night” etc. So the team these 4 d-bags play for, and who pay them, decide that’s not cool with them and stage their own protest…in front of fully packed yard.
sigh they might have been better served by just opting out, certainly their right. what I would like to see is GM suspend all of them without pay indefinitely; you are either with us (the organization who put the event on) or not. And if it’s “not”, then send them on their way. Maybe in their version of heaven they can meet up and play for Marge Schott.
the current DOJ immediately would sue the team
The original God Squads players were,Lavelle,Lemaster,Ivie,Moffett, second wave was Brantley,Hammaker,Dravecky, etc.. They can pray all they want but they never won consistently!Even Lowell Cohn opened up a can of worms when he said “Does Satan Hate The Giants?”
Fast Forward to the Championship teams and they were not God Squadders led by Posey,Sandoval,Bumgarner,Lincecum,Crawford,Belt, etc and the tremendous BP of Lopez,Affeldt,Romo. Those were dedicated driven teams where religion was secondary in the clubhouse..
good point
Maybe next round they can wear “I Support ICE” buttons on their Gigantes shirts.
Dressing up their revulsion at the sexual practices of 10% of the population in bible verses is fucked up.
well you’ve gotta have some cover reason other than your own confusion and fear to justify attacking a minority group. It’s a matter of pride.
Wow, a turd season going on, and then this. Vitello must be in hiding. Along with a MAGA billionaire majority owner, having openly anti gay-players as well as being a crap team is not good PR — well, maybe that’s not applicable in TX or Missouri or Atlanta, or even Phoenix. I have no idea how this dust-up is playing in the clubhouse, or even if it matters there.
But, with a son openly gay for years, I doubt if Krukow is amused. He is way more important to the Giants than Landen friggin’ Roupp, and certainly more than Walker, Brubaker and Hentjes (Hentjes didn’t put the Bible verse on the rainbow cap, he just refused to wear it) all trivia answers in a few years. Publicly he may not say anything, but I bet Krukow is wearing out somebody in the exec suite. I also doubt if Gilead the genetic/pharma tech outfit that paid big $ to sponsor last night is too happy with the Giants, either. Larry Baer, PR flack extraordinaire, must be thrilled at fielding those calls.
Hypo: What if 3 Giants on 4/15 Jackie Robinson Day decided to “X” out the #42 on their unis, with an Old Testament reference to the “mark of Cain” used by 1800’s slavers and other racists relating to black players? Would that that NOT be cool, but doing what they did last night is just fine? Openly anti-black expression is taboo (maybe, in this country it is not anymore), but anti-gay crap if funneled through a Genesis verse is legit on an MLB baseball field? A field most certainly with gay fans in attendance paying big ticket prices like everybody else that pay the salaries of these “religious” players?
I’m down with people being able to express their opinions on whatever, wherever. Shoot, Gary Lavelle and the God Squaders back in the day post-game used to thank JC constantly for a great curveball or fastball. But, this is not a 1st amendment issue. That comes into play only when government gets involved, and even in that space, limitations apply. Certainly, in business and commercial environments like MLB there are always perfectly legal and understandable limitations on employee expression.
As far as I know, yesterday management would have been within its CBA rights to tell the players to wear the uniform including cap that passed muster with the team, the bid money “sponsor” of the “night”, and the MLB league office. This “night” has been going on every season since 2021. These players had to know it was scheduled. IMO, wearing the caps is no different than requiring them to wear the entire Jackie Robinson tribute unis without defacement. Even if the CBA were not involved, do these dudes think there are no gay Giants fans in the ballpark? How nice to insult the people that pay your freight, including tickets to Sac.
Here’s Roupp dissembling and stammering to explain his protest — start at 1:25. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GACSHQrmLlU&t=92s
well said. Giants were handed uni and hat and 3 of them chose to deface it with their own unacceptable religious BS for which they can FOND. Hentges wore completely different color hat–wtf? It’s not dress up day at work. Wear the uni or sit in clubhouse with dunce caps on while rest of team tries to win baseball game together.
Ben Brown goes tonight for Cubs. Last week he held Giants to 1 hit in 5.1 and manager counsell took him out after 87 pitches. In TA manager said Chi will still be cautious with him.
So some guy didn’t wanna wear a cap. Let’s all have a stroke…
what they should do is trade them all to the Halos.
San Antonio? Biggest choke job in the last 2 games I think I have ever seen. New York punked them big time.
knicks made that series exciting.
The collapse at the Alamo is complete!Spurs just choked back to back games! Congrats to the New York Knicks ending 53 years of ineptitude.
Brunson was just incredible as the MVP player! A happy Loo for sure 👍
Yep . . . Congrats Loo, Knicks definitely deserved it.
meanwhile, Giants gave up a run on a double steal of second and home because Arraez didn’t know that Haase would be throwing. Why? Who knows. Read about it later, I guess. Giants have been thrown out on the bases a couple of times, including Adames just now. Embarrassing shit.
Gilbert, another one of the “blind brigade,” insofar as ABS.
My bad? I think? Was that on Gilbert or what you just said xoot regarding the runner’s fielder’s choice?
Meanwhile, A Cubbie bomb on some Giant reliever I have never heard of.
I don’t know. I was bouncing back and forth.
Correcto El Mundo . . . 2 bombs off the “Unknown Comi . . . uhh, reliever.”
I think you are right xoot, Adames out on 3rd on runner’s fielder’s choice per GameCast play by play.
I saw him gunned down. You should see if there’s video of the double steal. That was terrible. Eldridge got gunned down trying to leg out a double, too, early on.
And more embarrassing Giants baseball continue as Adames gets thrown out at 3 rd on a short pass ball, the usual RISP left on at 3rd, now the kid who shouldn’t even be up here Sanmartin ? giving up 2 homers to San Marin now 6-1 that’s a wrap in this game..
Key the Speedy Oil commercial.
Giants pitchers — the meek shall inherit, apparently.
Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie in a crumbling down Alamo gave more effort to the end then the Giants ever do.,
