Final Wormup

Getting close to the real thing. 2 weeks (and a few hours) from kickoff in fricking Melbourne, Australia.

This final preseason game tho is a short hop to Vegas. Given the state of injuries on the team, I’m not too too concerned as we will not play anyone that could even risk getting hurt more. And then 2 weeks to healthy up for the 16 hour flight to the bottom of the Earth.

Gee, I sure hope the newly formed Melbourne Convicts NFL team is put in the Western division. We all thought it was bad when Atlanta and New Orleans were part of the NFC West. This’ll be great.

Better make sure someone keeps an eye on Jed. Sin City can be pretty tempting.

Watkins had no idea the ball was coming. Not the way to make the team.

If he makes a move for the ball, it’s PI.

    Come on dude.

    Yay! We score 3.

Like watching paint dry (albeit, necessary, right?).

  4. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Sloppy shit but what a ridiculous call on the chop block. 29 didn’t know the guy was gonna jump.

Embarrassing drive,1st a goal at the 9 penalty ,penalty atleast Steady Eddie got the 48 yarder in this 9-9 snoozer ..

Just another reason to not pay attention to pre season games.

  7. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Say what you will but I’m liking the press man coverage.

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

The whole defense was pretty impressive.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yeah, i like that we are getting a little more consistent pressure.

Not tons, but I expect to see a lot more 5-man lines and different looks to disguise our intent. The wide 9 was so goddamn predictable and was easily beaten with screens and delays. Esp with 2s and 3s out there.

I’m concentrating more on watching our rookies on Defense. Height is playing a lot (mostly due to injuries). Not impressed thus far. He seems to get tangled up quite a bit against OLs.

Conversely, I am impressed with Halton, with very good pass rush skills. Fairly confident that he will be a starter soon. Prysock at outside corner is doing fairly well too. I think he will earn a roster spot. I like LB Dugger too.

  9. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Duggar had a pretty big whiff on that 3rd down play, but overall yeah, he looks much better than Wallow. Martin may just drift away if he just keeps getting hurt.

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Like Martin, same deal with Cruz (maybe outside chance of practice squad???) . . . Dunno.

      • 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

I think they will stash Cruz on some sort of squad Blade. Cruz was taken for his phenomenal physical traits knowing he’s a 1 to 2 year project and really raw right now.

The Turk is coming and this cut down will be really interesting with so many young players bucking for playing time. There’s lots of permutations and roster gymnastics going to be played.

      • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado says:

Yeah, I think he has a good chance to be retained via practice squad.

  10. Winder's avatar Winder says:

I think Watkins will turn into a good WR.

  11. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

He did get open and make his catches,.

  12. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

I haven’t been to many home games the last couple of years due to illness but I’m going to at least 4 and 1 more in SoFi against the Chargers this year, I’ve really missed the atmosphere and there’s nothing like being able to see the whole field at the snap.

  13. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

RB Patrick Taylor is the first domino to fall, waived with an injury settlement but in any event they have 4 good younger RB who were just better plus CMC.

  14. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

QB Martinez is gone, maybe Rourke is close to returning or they will roll with 2 QB until Rourke is ready. Martinez wasn’t it.

  15. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Sorry to hear that 12th. Trying to get tix for the Denver game as my wife’s cousin from Denver will be here for that game.

    Man they are getting pricey.

  16. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yeah Rourke looks like he’ll be fine as the backup once we trade Jones.

    • 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

If I was in the Niners position I would wait and see who loses a starting QB or who’s QB sucks balls and leverage Jones for all they can get. They lose him after this season anyway and yeah Rourke looked half decent in the little bit we’ve seen.

The other way to look at it is to just keep Jones no matter what because Purdy gets hurt every year and they have a real shot again this year.

Super Bowl Win, Purdy Please
