Just Wow . . .

I know this is a Niners blog but holy fuck. Instead of being 15-16, the Giants fell to 13-18 by gagging away 2 games in Philly yesterday. Ryan Walker blew the 1st game by giving up 2 in the 9th and one of our no-name relievers gave away the 2nd one. I need to see how they fucked that one up as I was out to dinner, but it sounded bad as we had a shot to go ahead and Windy Hoo was held up from scoring, and we gave up the winner in the 10th.

This Giants team is hard to watch as of now as they either can’t hit or can’t pitch. There is no consistency and we’ve all said all a long they didn’t do enough with the pitching.

This is on Buster for not pushing hard enough on Greggie to get more immediate help. The farm certainly looks like there is no immediate help there either.

Yes, you build from the farm up, but you can do more than Mahler and fucking Doogie to help the rotation. And Bofucki in the pen has run his course.

Tough to watch. Baggs in TA was as down on everyone as I’ve read in long time. The 3b coach had lamest excuse; Gilbert could have scored easily as ball was fumbled and Giants could have led going to bottom 10 instead of being tied.

I realize East Coast fans are different but I watched Stephen A say couple times during the week that if Mike Brown and knicks lost to Atlanta Hawks that “heads will roll.” Doesn’t seem to be thing with anyone associated with Giants at all.

Whisenhunt was lights out against Salt Lake City, which apparently has a lot of former MLB players. Maybe he’s next man up? Dunno.

Bryce Elldridge is also KNOCKING ON THE FREAKING DOOR, with 2 bombs yesterday. Last night against the Salt Lake Bees, Eldridge had four hits in five at-bats including two home runs while driving in six runs. It was a huge night and he is now hitting .327/.426/.529 with five home runs and 20 runs batted in.

I say bring him up . . . Anything to keep from falling asleep with this current Giants line up. If Devers doesn’t like it, tough shit – do something about your walk rate, SO rate, and paucity of bombs.

I’m a huge Giants fan. I can’t watch them. When Buster didn’t fix the rotation and get a closer during the off-season, I decided to sit this season out. Especially with the Dodgers buying championships.

Also, Vitello went with Ryan Walker to preserve a 2-1 lead yesterday. Big mistake, particularly with Winn available, i.e., Winn has been our best reliever. For Walker, that was his 2nd blown save in 5 chances.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Didnt Winn blow game 2 of the DH?

    • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Your wrong on Winn ,Blade it’s Caleb Killian by far are best reliever and yet Vitello is a dumbass not giving him the 9th in shutdown roles for the save! Every measurements he’s shown is LIGHTS OUT Stuff.Phillies hitters were shaking their heads going back to the dugout saying Who is this guy?Fuck if V can let him throw 2 innings then easily he can throw 2 straight games to close out the few times they have a lead.Hes way better then Winn&Walker..

Hey Blade, iirc you were fan of books with Western setting and I’m reading a new one that’s great. Set in New Mexico Territory 1890s, “The Harvey Girl” by Dana Stabenow. It’s short (250 pages) but in Acknowledgement section she says sequel is planned.

I found this in new books and author is one I read before and really liked. 4 books set in Alexandria Egypt during time of Cleopatra, as told by one of her court. Eye of Isis series.

      cheers

I will check it out Willie. Question – are you a fan of Elmore Leonard? Before writing crime genre novels (Get Shorty, Rum Punch), he wrote Hombre, 3:10 To Yuma, Valdez Is Coming, etc. Absolutely love his writing. Right now, I am working through a volume of his short stories (western genre).

Same goes for Cormac McCarthy, Larry McMurtry, and Louis L’Amour.

      • willedav's avatar willedav says:

Oh hell yeah, loved Elmore. Even his last few (Tishomingo something) were still good. Raylan Givens, the Detroit ones, others they made into movies… Gifted writer.

I remember one from Leonard called “The Hot Kid” set in 1930s Oklahoma that was really good in that genre and I think there was sequel as well. Good stuff

I’m more of a blues rocker but I’ve always loved this song. I just heard a story about it that was interesting. Messina said they were about to release it and Disney sent letters letting them know they can’t release the song because of copyright infringement. He told his girlfriend about the copyright issue. She tells him, “let me call my dad.” Messina says, “that’s right, I’m dating the CEO of Disney’s daughter”. He goes over and plays the song for him in his living room. After hearing the song, he gets on the phone with the lawyers and tells them to let him release the song. We almost never got to hear this tune.

In 1993 I was a huge baseball fan. My favorite player was Matt Williams. He was going to break the NL record for HRs that year. The season stopped and said record was never achieved. The stoppage was cool in the sense that Steve Scarsone and Dave Burba came and played on my softball team, but the damage was done.

After that year, I stopped following baseball, but I kept following the Giants. Watching Leased River(Renteria) hit that 3 run HR in the WS and Wilson closing the game was such a relief I couldn’t even celebrate. I did celebrate after the next 2 WS championships.

Now that it is the National Dodgers League, I don’t give a rat’s ass anymore unless we are obviously competitive. Obviously, we are not. Until we are, or they install a hard salary cap, baseball is not for me anymore.

Disclaimer: Because of my love and addiction for the giants I still always check the box scores. I always have hope, but I can’t watch the games. We suck and the best I can root for this year is that we don’t lose over 100 games.

Get a closer for crying out loud! at this point try Gregory Santos. He can’t be worse than what we already have. Move Devers and Adames to 7th and 8th in the order until they start hitting.

Good luck to all you Giants fans hanging in there, they surely need you.

For the 49er fans around here. We signed an UFA from NC State named Wesley Grimes who has been timed as 4.24 in the 40 yd dash. That is amazing speed.
