Here’s our score from the draft. Trade-backs galore, and we traded Dee Winters for a 5th round pick. Jaden Dugger. Another Gravedigger. The picks are the picks. At this point we won’t know for a couple years as usual, but the philosophy once again has me scratching my head.
Trading Winters since we got Greenlaw back is a huge risk to me. But we do have Gifford and Wallow, who both played pretty well when everyone else got hurt. And of course forgotten man, Nick Martin.
Getting Stribling is a very big red flag for Pearsall to get his act together health-wise. He is good to great when playing but that’s the rub. he’s missed a lot of playing time. And it has little to do with getting shot. Strib has what Shanny wants. Speed, blocking, and yards after the catch. Is his spot in the dog house already reserved? We’ll see.
The rest? Who knows? Height sounds good, and the pundits say the glowing things about him, but we will see when we see. He has speed and great hands, but he looks like he needs to bulk up a bit.
Shanny did his always dipshitty move of drafting an RB that would have likely been a 6th round/UDFA guy, but hey, get K Black at 3. The misbegotten spot in the Niners draft history.
We did draft a couple O linemen. Late as 12th so accurately predicted. Without trading down, they could have had Emmanuel Pregnon but alas, they don’t draft guards until the 4th round.

I will say though that since the draft wonks are utterly panning the 49ers picks, this will likely be a decent draft. After all they got an A for their efforts back in 2017 when they got Solly Thomas and Reuben Foster in the first round. Ooooops. That DID net us George Kittle tho. Thomas is at least still playing (forn the Titans and Robert Saleh), but he was no 3rd overall picks. Shit, they coulda signed CMC or Mahomie.

Forty Niners Forever 
I’ve also been saying since the get-go that Lynch’s role, at least early on was simply the handshake guy on the sidelines. That most of the personnel and draft decisions go through Shanny. I think this is still true to a certain extent but I think Lynch gets a little more input as noticed by last year’s draft.
I’ve never liked Shanahan for a number of reasons (most of them stated here by Unca, 12th man, Winder, etc.), e.g., draft face plants, adhering almost 100% to his written game plan, where he doesn’t make adjustments, and suspecting him of having too much influence with Lynch, insofar as the draft is concerned.
However, my biggest gripe is WHERE IS THE FREAKING SUPERBOWL TROPHY??? Frankly, I did not like his hiring after he blew the 28-3 lead the Falcons had over the Patriots in the 3rd quarter of SB LI, by not going to a ball control run game (Winder’s complaint about not making adjustments late in the game).
I also do not like the fact that he is the son of Rat Face . . .
Equally important, he was the Head Coach while losing 2 SBs, both against the Chiefs, not to mention his other 3 playoff losses (Rams, Eagles, Seahawks). Frankly, Eddie D. would have canned his ass long ago, so maybe I should be complaining about ownership? Maybe the Yorks I should be complaining about??? Both are about as useless as the “g” in lasagna.

Son of rat-face! Funny thing is, fucking Rat-face was the last OC to win us a Super Bowl. Never really liked him as well, but man, as I’ve said I think this team and this regime has just about run its course. They are on the downside of their run, regardless of Purdy’s trajectory.
I thought last year, if the team gets injured and doesn’t reach the playoffs, Shanalynch would be out, but they somehow managed to stay afloat. Mainly because of special teams and Jones doing a solid job of QBing.
Shanny DID make some adjustments. But the sticking with CMC WAY too long, time management screwups, and not adjusting his offense vs Seattke irks me still.
The Rams were very successful running two TEs agasint that defense, and with the emergence of Tonges, they had a great opportunity to exploitn that weakness.
But alas we get the ‘my way or the highway’ approach of Shanahan. The smartest guy in the room (that hasn’t won a chip).
Probably inadvertent, but Shanahan screwed over the reputation of the previous Broncos coach, Dan Reeves, whom assembled all the pieces of those SB teams, with the key exception of Terrell Davis. Atwater, Elway, Sharpe, Braxton, Nalen, etc., were all pieces that contributed to those 2 SB wins.
Concurrent with the aforementioned, I moved to Colorado in 1997 and had to witness those SB wins. Grrr . . .
NFL HC has to be hardest gig there is in major sports. so many layers btw HC and all the various co-ordinators and position coaches down to players. Look how long it took Andy Reid to win one.
I can understand his input on what types of players he wants in order to compete every week and these guys put in monster hours btw games. Sure Niners couldn’t beat Hawks, but no one else could either and they won the SB. No disgrace, imo and despite all the injuries they hung in there to the end. Reload and get after it.

Just to be clear, I am not for firing Lynch or Shanahan. I do think they need to diminish Shanahan’s involvement in picking specific players and that Lynch should not be the defacto GM choosing players, that should go to a proven winner in the same way the Rams, Seahawks and Eagles do it. As long as the GM is competent in player evaluations and fit of course. I also think too much is made of the “Golden Helmet” “Right Character” deal. I know Lynch tripped on his dick over Ruben Foster but that shit happens from time to time. Go get some dogs as Donte Whitner said, enough with the ivy league “nice guys”.
There is no better HC available than Shanahan IMO. I do blame him for the second SB loss with his coin toss decision, that alone lost the SB. But the very reason they were there and have been there multiple times and won 12 games whilst playing on one leg last season is also Shanahan. I think he, much like Andy Reid, needed the losing experiences to make smarter decisions. I think Shanahan, if he gets this team back in a SB will win it.
I’m not advocating for Shanny’s firing either but there’s no way he will acquiesce to giving up play calling duties, or a diminished role in drafting. So there may not be an alternative to that.
And I’m just getting the vibe that he’s still making the same mistakes that have following him since that Atlanta Super Bowl loss. 3 run plays, kick FG and Atl wins. Instead it’s holding call, run for loss, sack and they punt.
He absolutely gagged up the 2 Suer Bowl losses and the NFCCG to the Rams. All of those games he had a 10 point lead plus possession in the 4th quarter and blew them all.
