Brocky – NFCCG Day!!

We all remember the movie where the plucky underdog from out of nowhere takes on the champ and wins the heavyweight crown (well, it was a split decision, but I ain’t letting that get in the way). Rocky. Fitting that this game is in Philly as here we are is 2023 and we have Brocky. The plucky underdog QB drafted with the last pick of the 2022 draft coming from out of nowhere and deep on the bench to lead his team to the Super Bowl. Cue the Rocky theme.

The offense is a healthy as it has been all year, the defense is playing at a very high level, and even the play calling and coaching, minus a few issues with time management, is on point.

Philly though has something we struggle with, and that’s a mobile QB. I wonder if we go zone underneath to spy Hurts and his scrambles. It could leave guys open short, but it could save the 15 yard broken contain runs. Then again, they have 2 WRs with 183 catches and 2,694 yards in DeVonta Smith and AJ Brown, and their own 1,000 yard rusher in Miles Sanders.

Then again with a 17 game schedule, everyone has something close to this.

For all the offensive firepower, this game will be won in the trenches. One thing the team cannot do is overcommit to play action fakes, and misdirection runs. Our safeties Hufanga and Gipson and LBs need to stay home on bootlegs and sweeps and keep the edges tight. Philly gets a ton of yards on those plays.

Play clean, force a turnover or two, and we are moving on.

Cincy 31 – KC 27

They lost to the Saints, FFS.

    BROCKY!!!!

  2. Berger says:

The Tampa Two plays quarters underneath and Cover-2 over the top. It relies on the middle LB playing the deep middle of the Cover-2. Teams like to use a fast receiver deep over the middle to exploit this. If the defense gets pressure, the offense does not have time to go deep.

The zone quarters underneath is, in theory, to help stop a mobile QB from running. It also, in theory, does a nice job of covering the hots. We saw this used against Dak Prescott some. My guess is, we’ll see it used more often against the Eagles as long as we are getting pressure on the QB. If we aren’t getting pressure, Warner will be toast against Brown and Smith.

Hope McGlinchey and offensive line have good day. What’s over/under, 40-ish?

  4. Irish Kevin says:

    Niners 24-21

  5. Irish Kevin says:

The way these two team’s match up, it feels like a FG game.

  6. Irish Kevin says:

What happened to Mitchell, just heard he is not playing

  7. Irish Kevin says:

All the guys on Fox Howie, Terry, Johnson all picked the Eagles

  8. djloo27 says:

    Good luck, you guys.
    I hate the fuckin Eagles.
    Let’s get that rematch!

  9. djloo27 says:

I guess Erin Andrews was too busy to do her hair today.
    WTF???

  10. Irish Kevin says:

    A little too easy

  11. Irish Kevin says:

I wonder if Kyle will go on 4th down.

  12. Irish Kevin says:

    Well this sucks

  13. willedav says:

Josh Johnson is from Oakland Tech HS, like Marshawn Lynch.

  14. alleykat69 says:

What a fucking run by CMC broke 4 tackles what a savage!!7-7 one crazy game!!!

  15. Irish Kevin says:

The Niners have nothing going right for them. Hopefully the second half is better.

  16. John JOHNSON says:

Don’t worry, bang bang bang bang gang! You still have Jimmy G as your fifth stringer!

  17. Irish Kevin says:

The Niners need to start getting 1st downs, otherwise the D is going to tire out.

  18. Irish Kevin says:

Can we get a holding call, Bosa is being held big time

  19. Locojuan says:

    Brutal, just fucking brutal.

  20. Irish Kevin says:

This was a terrible way to lose. I hope Brock does not need surgery

  21. unca_chuck says:

What galls me is no one on the 49er sideline knew the 4th down pass wasn’t a catch.

    That changes the entire game.

The refs were pretty much a fucking joke, but it is hard to win an NFCCG when your 4th string QB gets injured. Johnson’s fumble at the end of the 2nd quarter was a huge fuckup.

Shanny was pretty stupid to not even try CMC qt QB because Purdy handing off every fucking play wasn’t gonna do anything.

Complete joke of a game by the refs.

  22. unca_chuck says:

Hell of a season, and I absolutely loved Williams tossing 42 to the ground.

Yeah we have hope going forward with Purdy and Co, but yet another NFCCG loss.

We need to get a RT, a CB, and another CB. And a LT.

  23. snarkk says:

This game was a complete joke. 3rd play in, and the game was over. It was a rugby contest, not football. Too bad, the record books will show Niners got ripped, nobody will remember they had to play the game essentially with no QB…

  24. The Refs says:

Yes, it’s true, the refs stole the game for Philly. LOVE Trent Williams acting like a punk. Why did the refs call that? Such BS.

  25. Winder says:

Terrible way to end the season but what a ride it has been. We found our QB and we better get another this coming draft so we can have 3 active at all times. If nothing else I have learned to hate Philly and their fans. I hope whoever wins the AFC game stomps the crap out of em.

  26. PaulinAsia Banh Bao says:

    There’s Loo. Hope all’s well, man…

  27. Locojuan says:

Go KC, do it for Loo!

  28. djloo27 says:

    Hey guys…
Yeah you got definitely got a raw deal today and KC was pretty damn lucky.
Half the team is in the hospital right now.
The Chief game was agony to watch and the endless stoppages and commercials which I should be used to were exceptionally annoying to me tonight.
Anyway hope y’all are doing well.
MacDog and I have tentative plans to go to see the Giants opening weekend at Yankee Stadium with none other than the great James who might be visiting.
    Everyone’s welcome!!!

  29. willedav says:

Read in Athletic today bunch of FAs in D line plus J Ward, and of course with Ryans off somewhere they will need a replacement there as well. Solid foundation still, imo.

  30. Winder says:

Agree, I was surprised that Ryans didn’t go last year. Pretty sure we can keep who we want on D except maybe Ward he may get a longer contract with more money elsewhere. Should get another 3rd rounder for Ryans and that will help some.

  31. alleykat69 says:

Yeah that stupid decision not to stop the clock and challenge Devonta Smith’s catch was just mind boggling. He immediately got up to get his team down there to run a play cause he knew he didn’t catch it! Shanahan and the guys in the booth were all caught in a brain freeze moment!
They would of taken over on downs back on their 35 still tied, with a momentum stop and potentially keeping the Eagles asshole fans in check. But instead screwed the pooch and an easy TD run was quite deflating..

  32. Irish Kevin says:

Usually one of the D players know or see something and yell at the coaches, but nobody saw it, Fox replay didn’t play back the camera for the replay till later

  33. unca_chuck says:

The biggest tell of the whole thing was D Smith screaming to get the next play off. |

    New thread is up.
