Happy New Year! 1-1-23 / Game Day

Niners / Raiders used to mean something. It wasn’t very long ago that the teams agreed not to play in the preseason for all the fighting and mayhem. Now? Well, this is another home game for the Niners in the Roomba as the ticket purveyors are saying sales are around 70% to Niner fans.

Crazy that the Niners get games in LA that are home games as well. The league in its infinite wisdom is all about teams fleecing cities for stadiums to get built for fan bases that don’t exist. The Chargers had a huge following in San Diego and they had a promise from Alex Spanos that he wouldn’t move the team. Unfortunately that promise went to the grave as son Dean promptly moved them to a city and stadium that doesn’t care.

The Raiders? Same shit, different city. I’m sure ticket sales will be fine, but it will be predominantly away fans. The players must be bummed because both owners moved away from rabid fan bases.

Anyhow, have a happy and safe New Year’s and let’s keep the ball rolling.

  1. Winder says:

Happy New Years everyone. Yeah the Raider games don’t mean much to Niners anymore but they are still fun. I remember everyone of those old Raider teams when football was really football. They had some tough teams. Not sure but if Philly loses out these last 2 games and we win our 2 I think we have the 1 seed so there is still a lot to play for.

  2. unca_chuck says:

We own all tiebreakers with Dallas, Minnesota and the Iggles, so if we can take care of business and get some help, it IS doable. Iggles are losing 13-3 to the Saints.

    Wouldn’t that be something?

  3. unca_chuck says:

Hey, we have a better shot now at the 1 seed. Down goes Philly. GB winning OVER MINN would be setting up the 2 anyway.

  4. Winder says:

Could this one really be a trap game?

  5. Irish Kevin says:

Happy New Year everyone, hope it is a great 2023 for everyone. Go Niners

  6. Irish Kevin says:

Yeah this could be not playing up to your competition

  7. Irish Kevin says:

Well those were quick TD’s by both teams, I am sure the Niner D will not let that happen again

  8. alleykat69 says:

Happy New Years everyone, now it’s time for the 49ers to get over their Vegas hangover 🤕 and start playing football 🏈 Defense especially getting torched early..

  9. Irish Kevin says:

Wow, how long has it been since the Niners went into the half not leading?

  10. unca_chuck says:

Defense is horrible. No pressure on passes, no stops on runs.

    Awful.

  11. unca_chuck says:

A bit full of themselves? Defense hasn’t stopped one fucking play. 246 yards for the Raiders.

In one fucking half. At least we get the ball first.

  12. Lurker John says:

And the Eagles lost and the Packers are taking care of business. Pretty pathetic half.

  13. Irish Kevin says:

This is going to be a challenge for Purdy to make plays

  14. unca_chuck says:

Gonna be one of those days.

  15. Irish Kevin says:

Looks like a the Raiders have a Brock at QB

  16. Irish Kevin says:

The D needs to step it up

  17. Irish Kevin says:

Demarco needs to blitz this guy

  18. Irish Kevin says:

This guy is reading the Niner Defense really well

  19. unca_chuck says:

No pressure and giving up 5 per run. Not good.

  20. Irish Kevin says:

First game Purdy has struggled some

  21. Irish Kevin says:

Purdy and Kyle needed this type of a game, this is like a playoff game!

  22. alleykat69 says:

Jordan Mason powerful run for his 1st career TD!
    34-27 lead, can ??
That ball is locked into his arms tightly on the sidelines, and will be on his mantle soon..

  23. Irish Kevin says:

Why aren’t we blitzing this guy

  24. Irish Kevin says:

This is where I sometimes think games are rigged, no way Gould should have missed that

    • unca_chuck says:

The rigging came about on the pass to Adams. That wasn’t a catch. Still and all, no pressure most of the game and Sticham looked like Purdy for the most part. Hitting the quick passes and taking shots when able to.

  25. unca_chuck says:

wow. just fucking wow. Gould sucked in the clutch. Bosa made the play of the game with the pressure on the last pick.

Wake up call for the defense. Fuck. What a shit-show.

    • Irish Kevin says:

Let’s face it the Niners have been rolling a little too easily. This showed them they are not invincible. I still think Ryan’s didn’t blitz enough. He always relies on his front 4. Sometimes you have to change it up.

  26. Winder says:

Never expected a game like this. I think the Raiders have found their QB. Anyway good teams find away to win and we did. This one was tough.

  27. unca_chuck says:

Good to see Purdy able to keep coming back as the defense got ripped. Gut check if anything. Yeah, I was wondering why Ryans never tried to blitz much. I saw maybe 1 or 2 times.

    • Winder says:

So far Purdy has looked like the best QB we’ve had in a long-time. I don’t know why the D held back but maybe to get a read on Stidham since there’s no book on him. Looked like he has a lot of potential for the future.

      • willedav says:

mm “trap game” indeed as you said earlier. anything to what I read in Athletic, that mobile QBs (as in healthy Hurts) a problem for this D? Also, Lennoir yikes.

      • Winder says:

Yeah it looks like opposing defenses have a lot to look at now. Hopefully Greenlaw(sp) isn’t hurt to bad because we are gonna have to assign a safety or linebacker to running QB’s

  28. Flavor says:

my dad called that the best game he’s seen since “The Catch”. I found that to be a curious call. I was but a young Big Flavor back then. All I remember is that as soon as Clark caught that ball my dad ran out of the house screaming and returned about 10 minutes later wearing only his tee shirt and his white tighty whities. True story.

  29. Berger says:

The 49ers didn’t have their best game but give the Raiders some credit. They played well. Josh Jacobs is a great runner and Stidham was solid. Their offensive line handled a healthy 49er D-line.

The Raiders have lost around 10 games this year by less than one score. If their QB would’ve played like Stidham did yesterday, they would have about 12 wins. I think winning a game like that does nothing but help us going forward.

I think i was gritty win for us. When a team plays as well as the Raiders did, they should win. We do need to clean up our penalties. And yes, that was not a catch by Adams. The bad call just adds to the quality of this win. BTW, I just knew Gould was going to miss the FG.

  30. Winder says:

Great story about your dad. My dad was like that also. It was a great game and it showed just how spoiled we are with our team. The Raiders brought us right back to earth and that is what we needed. Now we have a whole lot of stuff to correct. I still love it when we beat the Raiders. Everyone is gone already but I married into a die-hard Raider family and since I come from a die-hard Niner family it was always great fun around their house.

  31. Grumpy Guy says:

Ponder this: Ten weeks ago, when we were 3-4, did anyone not sniffing glue imagine in their wildest dreams we’d be 12-4 today, with a 9-game winning streak, holding the #2 seed with one week to go, with a shot at edging out the Eagles for #1 next week, and Brock Fucking Nobody Purdy leading us into the playoffs?

    ROTFLMAO.

    • Winder says:

I know I didn’t. We have had some of the worst luck the last few years with injuries and all the bullshit that goes with that we needed a Purdy to show up and play. It also helps that Shanny has finally opened up the offense.

  32. Irish Kevin says:

Yeah nice to see Kyle us the whole playbook, he couldn’t use it with JG and Trey just wasn’t ready

  33. Irish Kevin says:

Ryans needs to make better defensive adjustments at half time, the front 4 just could not get to the QB, and he was lighting up the secondary. I will say that when he did get hit he bounced back and made passes. Hmmm…another Brock?

  34. unca_chuck says:

    New thread is up.
