Crossroads

I went down to the crossroads, fell down on my knees . . .

Here we are, week 4, and it already feels like the season is at the crossroads. Of course this isn’t really true this early in the season, but what should have been a transcendent season of looking to the future and watching our young exciting quarterback develop into a star has instead been seemingly sabotaged by the guy who directed the signing in the first place.

Kyle’s bright idea was to develop Lance’s passing game by running him repeatedly into the line and work the passing in at some later date. Well, that is now next season. Curious as this strategy has killed our last 4 leading rushers under Kyle the Merciless. Why he thought his costly quarterback would fare better is baffling as fuck, but here we are. Back to square one. Back to Jimmy. Mr. Fragile. Mr. costly fumble/game-killing interception. You know, the 9 year vet who is so rusty he forgot how big the end zone is.

But I digress. Tonight we get to find out if Kyle’s mastery over Sean McVay will continue, or if McVay found the key to beating us is to oversell against the run and force the game into Jimmy butterfingers hands. Thing is, but for the Tartt fail, the Niners could have won that NFCCG game WITH Jimmy. But that is a bridge long passed. Shanahan shit the bed in that fateful 4th quarter. And so did Jimmy and the rest of the team.

Now, the 49ers come into this game beat up. And it’s week 4. Mitchell is gone, Lance is gone, Williams is gone for a month, Kinlaw is (shock) hurting, AA is hurting. Brunskill is cleared to play, so the hope is the line does OK. They did well enough last week, but it didn’t seem to help Mr. ‘it’s like riding a bike’ as he fell off the bike and smashed his face into the pavement.

The Rams? After their humiliating loss vs the Bills to open the season, they rebounded with a win against the Falcons, and followed that up with a win over AZ. Nothing spectacular, but they finished their games. We didn’t. This was supposed to be the easy part of our schedule, but we’ve blown two 4th quarter leads in three games, and tonight a loss would mean last place and 2 games behind the Rams. Another blazing start here in year 5 of the Shanahavenoplan. I mean, shit, he’s the offensive guru who has two explosive 10 point games under his belt.

We got healthy vs the Rams last year after the worst loss I have even seen against Colt McCoy and the Cards, so the hope is we do the same this year and get better. Cuz last week’s game was just as pathetic.

Early early Neil care of Winder . . .

  2. Flavor says:

gonna be interesting to see how this plays out. Having no T-Willy gonna be a problem with the line already sucking to begin with. I want to see Kyle put Deebo in the backfield and NOT give him the ball. let’s see if he can do it

    • unca_chuck says:

Something I was screaming for before the season started (and I actually saw it once last week) was to send Deebo on passing routes out of the backfield. It forced Denver to put a linebacker on Deebo, but Jimmy missed the pass anyway.

  3. unca_chuck says:

Neil Young and Rick James . . .

  4. Winder says:

The only way we even have a prayer to come out on top is our defense. Every time I think we will shine we get our asses handed to us. So, I am going into this game knowing we gonna get our asses handed to us.

  5. alleykat69 says:

Typical Shanahan move.RB Tevin “Washed up”Coleman is activated from practice squad since he’s a a trusted player back in the days at Atlanta .
Mason younger faster tons more explosiveness will continue not getting a crack for now..

    • Irish Kevin says:

The guy who is replacing Williams is good at run blocking, but the last time he replaced Williams he gave up a sack a caused two hurries on passes. Typical Niner offensive lineman

  6. Irish Kevin says:

I think the D will keep them in the game for 2 1/2 quarters and then who knows

  7. Irish Kevin says:

If the D can’t stop them, we are in for a long night

  8. unca_chuck says:

Not a bad start. I’d like to see the up-tempo more than that one drive.

  9. Irish Kevin says:

Kyles thinking will be…got the lead let’s run the ball

  10. Irish Kevin says:

Whoa, Bosa is one fast dude

  11. unca_chuck says:

How about keep passing on 1st down? I’m afraid we go prevent offense right about now.

  12. unca_chuck says:

Stop with the Deebo runs. EVERYONE keys on him in the backfield.

Or how about an outside run?

  13. Irish Kevin says:

Jimmy having 1 good series and then back to the old Jimmy missing wide open players

  14. D Locojuan says:

    Deebo!

  15. Winder says:

I came in at the right time.

  16. unca_chuck says:

Damn! Deebo’s so much better not dodging linemen and taking on safeties and corners. Jimmy needs to settle his shit down. Di is once again giving the team enough opportunities.

  17. D Locojuan says:

    Back to back sacks.

  18. unca_chuck says:

Fuck. Why didn’t Kyle take the timeout after the 1st play? He wasted 12 seconds to do nothing and Jimmy nearly threw a pick. Look at the 4th down play!!!! Guy was wide open!!! Jimmy throws it away!!!

  19. Winder says:

The 2nd half is where we usually fall apart. I sure hope we don’t I would love to stick it the the stinkin Rams.

  20. unca_chuck says:

Don;t go utter winpy here. Which is what we do on 1st sdown.

  21. unca_chuck says:

Jimmy check-down misses Juice down the middle for the TD.

  22. unca_chuck says:

    Catch the fucking ball!!!!!!!

  23. unca_chuck says:

    Oh fuck me sideways.

    Hey, there you go. Juice!!

  24. Irish Kevin says:

    Let’s not go run happy

  25. Winder says:

    big mistake

  26. unca_chuck says:

Well, this drive will seal the game if we can score that elusive 2nd half TD.

  27. Irish Kevin says:

3rd string olineman so run only

  28. Irish Kevin says:

Screens aren’t going to cut it

  29. Irish Kevin says:

If the Rams tie this game up, I am going to be pissed

  30. D Locojuan says:

    Pick Six!

  31. Irish Kevin says:

    Yeah!!!!

  32. Irish Kevin says:

    Niners needed that

  33. Irish Kevin says:

If the pick didn’t happen, Kyle would not have known how to put the game away

  34. unca_chuck says:

Hey now! Fucking incredible game by the defense.

  35. unca_chuck says:

Shanny once again is leaving the other team in the game by going soft. He should have gone for the TD.

DeMeco Ryans is becoming a great coach before our eyes. He stopped dropping the LBs deep on these 2nd half plays, the aggressive D has come through in spades.

  36. Irish Kevin says:

This is where Bill Walsh would try new plays game is over but he would call new plays. Some worked and if they scored that would be a new play that he would have

  37. Irish Kevin says:

And McVay still has not figured out the Niners

  38. Winder says:

Wow. What a game for the D.

  39. unca_chuck says:

Yes!! The D shall rule the night. Jimmy didn’t throw a pick. So there’s that.

  40. Irish Kevin says:

Well the guy on NFL network point out that one long run was on a screen and Deebos TD was a 5 yard pass. YAC was off the charts

  41. alleykat69 says:

Everybody now at 2-2 in the Division but the 49ers are 2-0 with the hammer winning both matchups against Seattle&Rams..
They will be in 1st place after next week after trouncing a pathetic Panthers team on the road, while the Rams get beat by the Cowboys in Dallas Seattle loses to the Saints in New Orleans, And Arizona gets their asses handed to them by the Eagles in Arizona..calling it now

  42. unca_chuck says:

The stat I saw was 193 of 236 passing yards were after the catch.

    Sounds good, AK!

I just hope this offense improves. It turtles in the 2nd half every game.

  43. unca_chuck says:

Too funny. Shades of Mike Curtis!

  44. joshuastnvk says:

That is exactly how this team should look week in and week out. It was nice to see passes on first down throughout the game and a heavier favor of pass over run. I’m really happy they didn’t feed Deebo the ball out the backfield every other play, because that man showed why he needs to line up outside and catch the ball. Jimmy about got him killed with that high pass and the man tucked it and made arguably the best play of the season (offensively) for this team. Good win. Just please build on it and don’t lay an egg next week…

  45. unca_chuck says:

Intentional or not, that pass was in the right place. Jimmy didn’t make any stupid errors or fumble the ball. We go as far as his eptitude or ineptitude takes us.

    New thread is up.
