Chi-Town Disaster

Well, this is yet another Shanahan special. Another defeat snatched from the jaws of victory. Give Shanny a 4th quarter lead and he’ll figure out how to blow it. Sure, the team made a ton of mistakes but really, Shanahan plays the game so close to the vest for 3 quarters that he leaves the Bears in the game long enough for them to come back and win going away. The FG drive we had Aiyuk on the edge 1 on 1. Do we play-action to that side? Nope. We run up the middle for a 2 yard loss. Fuck.

Throw in 12 penalties, a bad throw by Lance, too many run plays to Deebo to go along with his fumble, and there you have it. An awful loss to a shitty team that we left hanging around. I was furious at the end of the season last year due to Shanahan and his inability to close the game, and I’m still in the same place now. Deebo should NOT be running so much. The Bears, who have a terrible defense somehow blanketed Aiyuk and Samuel to 4 catches for 54 yards. We threw downfield successfully 3 times in the 1st half, and of course We ran the ball all over the place. 176 yards. all to no avail.

Dre Greenlaw continues to be the drive-extending idiot on very important plays as he committed a needless facemask on 3rd and 12. The early penalty was bullshit, but so wa the call on Aiyuk for OPI. The refs did their damnedest to keep Chicago in the game, and they finally responded on a broken play on, you guessed it, 3rd and long. But they had a LOT of company in the penalty department. Our vaunted defense gave up one broken play for a TD on 3rd and long, and we simply fell apart. We went soft and got no pressure on Fields in the 2nd half.

We failed in every aspect of the game. Well, special teams didn’t do anything wrong.

But once again a Shanahan-led team trips and falls late. And he’s NEVER the one taking the heat for it.

Shanahan and company were absolutely out-coached today. Plain and simple. He went from conservative to more conservative. Matt (who the fuck am I?) Eberflus went into attack mode as the defense played scared and soft late to let the Bears march down the field to take the lead.

Kaepernick 2.0 with extra Picks thrown in.
We go as the D goes
    Lynch v Shanny
    So far?
    Shanny sucks ass

    • NJ49ER says:

Lance is nowhere close to the price we paid
      Put that in Shannys’ column
Lynch isn’t out of the woods yet with the Solomon Thomas pick but he’s doing better than Shanny thus far.
When is Jed to be trusted with the keys to the kingdom?

Oline is the Achilles heel and has been for several years.
QB can’t survive the lack of protection and the Offense can’t survive the lack of QB intelligence.
        Run Kyle
        You have no answers

      • unca_chuck says:

Bullshit. Sorry, you don’t know shit about Lance based on this game. We didn’t build a line near good enough to keep him clean in the pocket.

The Bears are a horrible defense and we made them look line the Fearsome Foursome. Throw in stupid wimpy play calling down close to the goal line and there you have it. 4 red zone trips and 10 points.

  2. unca_chuck says:

Lance had one bad play. Shanahan had about 10 bad play calls. He’s goes full pussy in the 2nd half. The defense was an utter disaster committing countless penalties to extend drives.

  3. Irish Kevin says:

Well Trey looked like A Smith and every QB the Niners have rolled out there, absolutely no pass protection. Does Kyle, Lynch and every college scout not see this, of course the problem should have been addressed when A Smith was here but still. No, no we are going to run the ball, no need for Pass protection.

  4. NJ49ER says:

    1 game
    No biggie
Concerns remain in the trenches bc Lance/Shanny don’t click on the timing requirements.
    Too slow

Lynch and Shanny are polar opposites.
    D v O
Our O ain’t close to Bill and probably never will until we find a QB with the ability to see the D and exploit it

Lance’s mechanics are inconsistent. They got worse in the clutch. He missed a few easy short gimmie passes. His delivery gets long, low and with a huge hitch. I hope it’s just opening game jitters. Definitely no ‘it’ factor in this game. I’ll wait about 6 or 8 games to properly assess. So far, not so good.

He also checked to a target on the left which was way short on 3rd down, he had a guy standing alone on the right with a lot of green in front of him. It’s too soon to tell but he doesn’t resemble hope, so far. Hopefully he shows a lot of improvement next week.

  7. Berger says:

The Bears did not win this game, we lost it. If Greenlaw can’t play with more discipline, do we need his great tackling? I think he cost us this game with his facemask penalty. The momentum switched directly after that penalty. It’s hard to win with the number of penalties we committed.

  8. Berger says:

There is no doubt in my mind that we win this game with a good QB.

  9. Flavor says:

i’m not sweatin’ this game. Conditions were awful. On the road. First game of the year. I am a little concerned about how Trey stares down his targets that’s not gonna fly but hopefully he learns to not do that. I wasn’t in awe of anything he did and that’s also a concern. They gave up a shit ton for this guy, I need to see seedlings. When Mahomes played his first game or two we were in awe. I was not in awe of anything today.

    • Berger says:

That is how I felt. Normally I wouldn’t be so critical of his play but normally we don’t give up 3 first round picks for a player.

      • unca_chuck says:

Yeah, well, its hard to play well when you ignore the O line and let guys like Tomlinson and Mack go with no replacement.

      • Berger says:

He had opportunities to make plays. He’s young and inexperienced. Hopefully he learns and gets better. The poor mechanics in the clutch is something that does worry me a lot.

  10. unca_chuck says:

What kills me is the fucking problems that keep cropping up over and over and over. Drive extending defensive penalties on 3rd down. Broken plays that go huge. False start penalties. Blown leads late. Injuries. Shanahan’s conservative play calling.

ALL these things point to the coaching staff. Lance hit some nice plays, but for the most part was under pressure every throw. Our line was a big concern this offseason and we did little to fix the problem. We let Mack diddle around and did nothing to prepare for his retirement. The 2 guards suck.

Hard to think that Lance is gonna wow anyone with this scenario of a crap O line and the shit weather on top of that. He’s gonna look like Fields last year. A guy running for his life more often than not.

  11. unca_chuck says:

What’s even more disappointing is the defense. After the broken play for the Pettis TD, the defense went soft and played scared. No pressure in the 2nd half and of course the stupid penalties.

Why the fuck did we let Tomlinson go?

  12. unca_chuck says:

Whole lotta shitty football being played today. Prescott looks horrible, Brady looks wobbly, all these games looked pretty sloppy.

  13. alleykat69 says:

Time for the Cowpokes to come up to the plate on a Jimmy G deal ( yeah we’re start with Parsons/Lamb lol) cause Prescott’s going to be out 6-7 weeks with surgery on his broken right thumb! Owner Dr.Jerry Jones reported, and will probably do the surgery as well., So make us an offer we can’t refuse Jerry..

  14. unca_chuck says:

    If we can get a 1 I’d do it in a nano-second. A 2 even.

  15. Winder says:

I have to adjust my expectations considerably I honestly thought we would play better but I can see it’s gonna take some time. I don’t know if Shanny would ever get a real OC in and let them call the plays. He has to do something. I don’t get why so many penalties.

  16. joshuastnvk says:

Yuck. This has to be Shanny’s last year. He’s just a bad coach. Plain and simple. There’s still too much I need to see on Lance. Yes, he looked like garbage. But everyone on that field did on Sunday, with the exception of Mitchell who only lasted so long. Get the fuck with this RPO bullshit. It’s for the birds. We have to be able to run without trying to get cute or use our playmaking WR. Deebo ran WAY too much. You can scheme protections and rollouts to help with that weakness and get Lance out of the pocket. Not every winning team has solid line help. It’s easier, but you can coach them and scheme them to make it work. It’s hard to say week 1 we needed this, but with every other team, assuming Seattle gets worked by Denver tonight, losing, being 1 game up on everyone would have been huge. Also, I hate those rain games we play in like twice a year. At least it’s no longer at the stick and it would be five times a year lol. I think the biggest takeaway and finger to point at is Shanny. In conditions like that it comes down to fundamentals and mistakes. We made all of them. We didn’t play sound football. Hey, especially in the second half, those conditions are going to limit throwing, footing, etc. But that’s why you play penalty free ball, don’t commit turnovers and use the advantage to your strength on defense. We didn’t. Somehow fields seemed to have more time in the second half lol

Ugly loss. Super Bowl or bust on Shanny, plain and simple. We win the trophy, or he’s shown the door. And if Lynch was responsible for that Lance trade, send him on his way too.

  17. Berger says:

If the 49ers continue to commit 15 yard penalties to keep the opponents drives alive on 3rd down stops, I say we just change the name of the team to the ’15ers’.

    • alleykat69 says:

Lulz Berger the 15ers sounds about right!.Nothing pisses me off more then having a team in 3rd and long (9-20 yards even)you stop them, and some idiot player shows no discipline and these words automatically come out of the refs, :Holding number yada ya that’s a 5 -15 yard penalty AUTOMATIC 1st Down!I want to throw something at my TV, cause I know what’s coming every time! The team should immediately take him out of the game, and take him inside the blue medical tent and beat the crap out of him until he figures out what it takes not to make boneheaded plays!

      • Berger says:

Your idea for the new use of the medical tent could be motivational. A little negative reinforcement for an attitude adjustment might be what we need.

  18. unca_chuck says:

This is all on Shanahan. He was out-coached across the board. His line can’t run block without using Deebo on jet sweeps or misdirection plays. And, using him as a running back just takes him out of the passing game.

With Mitchell likely done for the year, that leaves Wilson. And our brilliant 3rd round pick who was left off the roster. Along with Danny Gray.

What makes me laugh is every time we try to roll Lance right, the LDE is ALWAYS unblocked on that side. Usually the corner on that side as well. So, there goes the pass, and now Lance is running for his life.

The line issues that we all saw coming came to pass. What was really disheartening was after the broken play to to (surprise!!!) Dante Pettis, the defense played prevent. We played back, allowing short passes and got no pressure. And yeah, committed a skew of stupid penalties. Up to and including the guy who gets most of them, Dre Greenlaw.

Dre should be fined $500,000 by the team for every drive extending 15 yard penalty. The facemask was totally unnecessary and stupid. Maybe that will get him to stop with that shit. The first one was a terrible call. As was the OPI on Aiyuk. The refs kept the Bears in the game in the 3rd quarter with a some ticky tacky calls, and it finally paid off. 8 penalties in the 2nd half.

All these things are Shanahan’s doing. It really bothers me that he gets no heat for the fact that his teams fail so miserably in the 2nd half over and over. His conservative play calling gets the team close but not quite al the time. He plays with a 7 point lead in the 3rd quarter like he has a 20 point lead with 3 minutes left.

Lance had a bad game, but given the conditions and our terrible blocking, he was doing well enough until the pick.
