Draft Day 3 – Meat and Potatoes Time

So, now that the twitter verse is down on our draft, we are poised at the brink of where the Niners get their good players. The hidden gems, the steals of the draft. Who knows? The braintrust certainly seems to have better luck finding gold at the bottom of the barrel rather than finding the cream at the top.

Anyhow, we have picks 135, 172, 187, 220, 221, and 262.

OK with the DE pick Drake Jackson. He looks to be a find as USC fucked with his development, and we can get a lot from him when he puts some weight back on.

RB? Ty Davis-Price seems awful high for a position that Shanny can seemingly fill in with any available body. Maybe this is a message to Deebo that we are gonna decrease his run workload.

The WR pick Danny Gray looks pretty good as well. Size and speed can’t be taught and he has both. 6′ 2″ and 4.33 speed.

This draft is pretty much a bright neon signpost as to why the Niners pushed all their chip in for Trey Lance last season. There was ONE QB selected in the first 2 rounds.

Anyhow, day 3 is about to start.

The 3rd day is when we find some real gems. Looking forward to more of the same today. It’s the 1st-3rd where we miss the most.

  2. Winder says:

Looks like we get Mr. Irrelevant.

  3. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, the first Mr. Irrelevant I remember was RB John Tuggle. He of the famous Play while at Cal. He rushed for 98 yards that game but no one remembers that. He went to the NY Giants as pick 355 and played a season there, and sadly died of cancer at 25.

Finally go O line with Spencer Burford, OL, UTSA 6′ 4″, 304 lb.Encouraging is he is a solid pass pro guard or tackle. Here’s some verbiage.

Long-armed guard/tackle prospect who is fueled by energy and athletic ability. Burford has the foot quickness and agility teams are looking for as a move blocker but his play can be rushed and unfocused, which can turn a win into a loss on any given rep. He needs to add muscle mass and drop the pad level, but has enough bend in his lower half to become a more consistent drive blocker with technique work. He can do a better job of uncorking a stiffer punch into rushers but he gets the most out of his length in pass protection and has the recovery athleticism to make up for missteps. Burford’s physical traits and positional flexibility give him a head start in chasing a roster spot.

  5. Winder says:

I am thinking LB for rd 5. and a TE somewhere in 6, also a couple of DB’s.

  6. alleykat69 says:

Spencer Burford ,nice pick he was rated the 3rd best OT left and a Sleeper pick by B/R even though “He is light in his Pants” supposedly lol 😂

  7. Winder says:

I think we just drafted our new Kwan in Womack. Kid needs some work but might have the skills to make it

  8. unca_chuck says:

Well, we are doing on day 3 what we thought we’d do on day 1.
OL – Spencer Burford OL, TXSA
    CB – Samuel Womack Toledo
    OL – Nick Zakelj Ford
    DL – Kalia Davis UCF
CB – Tariq Castro-Fields Penn State

    And whoever Mr. Irrelevant is.

    • alleykat69 says:

The most successful Mr.Irrelevant player has been FG kicker Ryan Succop drafted by the Chiefs in 2009 (252)and yes still playing for now with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ..

    • bakkentom says:

The 6th rd OT was expected to be drafted in the 4th. So both our OT’s are 4th’s. These may bump skule and mccivitz.

  9. alleykat69 says:

Actually 256th pick , but he became the first Mr.Irrelevant to win a SB ring with Tampa 2 years ago..

  10. Winder says:

I gotta say this is the first Niners draft where I never heard of any of our picks.

  11. alleykat69 says:

Jesus they take a QB Brock Purdy?? for Mr.Irrelevant when there was C Dhonvan West from ASU,CBVernon McKinley Oregon ,S Josh Jobe Alabama, WR Justyn Ross Clemson and several other better potentials..
    WTF???

  12. Winder says:

I like that we took a QB with 262, I hope the kid can stick.

  13. unca_chuck says:

Well, the good news is, they are still available, AK!

Like everyone else in the draft world, I’m scratching my heads over the RB pick in Ty Price-Davis. But he is on the all-hyphen team anyway. Like I said, a shout-out to Deebo that they aren’t gonna push him too hard in the run game? Who the fuck knows?

The rest of the picks graded out pretty well, but like all these drafts you never know what you got for a bit of a while. I mean really. Who picked Tom Brady to be the steal of the draft back in the stone age?
