Week 22 – Conference Championship Day! Are You Ready???

Man, this has been quite the season. What is it about San Francisco sports teams this year? The Giants come out of nowhere to win 107 games??? The Warriors storm out to the best record in the NBA? And now we have the Jekyll and Hyde 49ers turning on the jets after staggering out of the gate. One game from the Super Bowl? These guys were DOA after getting waylaid by the Colt McCoy-led Arizona Cardinals and were at 3-5.

Sputtering offense, shoddy defense, mediocre special teams. The maddening crowd, including me, was calling for a quarterback change, and a coaching change at the end of the year. But internally, the team kept their cool. They didn’t fracture behind the obvious division that the Trey Lance signing could have caused. Or the offensive woes as the team struggled to score. Or the injuries. Or the shoddy defense and bad clock management. The Super Bowl and NFC West crown dreams vanished in a hurry.

Thankfully the Rams provided the springboard for our current run back in week 10 as we pounded them into submission with a 15 minute game-opening TD drive and a 31-10 shellacking.

Something I think we repeat tomorrow. The Rams are the Rams. They make plays, but they also make mistakes. They blew a 17 point lead against us and lost, and blew a 24 point lead against the Bucs and won. Matthew Stafford can be pressured into mistakes, and our defensive line has really ratcheted up the pressure. In the last Ram game, Ryans dialed up a few blitzes on some obvious passing downs and got sacks. And most importantly, Ambry Thomas was a full participant in practice, so no Dontae johnson in the slot. We will still need help with Cooper Kupp, but I feel much better with Ambry out there.

So, buckle up for a big day of football.

Don’t know why, but I’m feeling a rematch of Super Bowl XVI and XXXIII. KC’s defense will not slow down Cincy enough to win.

I’m ready. Nervous but ready. The Rams are desperate to win and break the streak and get back to the Super Bowl. It seems like they’ve been talking about it all week. This is going to be a tough game. I’m praying Garoppolo not only keeps the mistakes to a minimum, but throws a couple of TD passes in the process. He doesn’t have one in the playoffs and he’s long overdue for a good game. In other words, we need good Jimmy to show up.

I have no sense for this game, so I’m rolling with your confidence, Chuck. But I’ve no doubt it’ll be stressful as hell to watch.

  2. Lurker John says:

Vivid Seats and their algorithm predicting that 65% of the fans in attendance tomorrow will be 49ers fans. That would be awesome.

  4. Winder says:

Huge game. Should be a classic. Staying humble with this one.

    DeeeeeeBo

    Get it DONE today 👍

  6. alleykat69 says:

I don’t see a rematch with the Bengals as Patrick Mahomes numbers in playoff games all at home are staggering!
    W/L 7-1
    Comp Pct 68.9
    Pass Yds/ game 318.9
    Pass TD/ Int 23-1 ( very impressive)
    Rush TD 4
Huge task for a Bengals team in their 1st playoff championship game since the 80’s to overcome. Hoping for a good game and should be high scoring but Mahomes playoff experience ( 4 straight championship games) wins out over upstart Bengals
    37-31

  7. Irish Kevin says:

Ah, who will win this, over the last few games Kyle has really surprised me with his play calling. So unless he reverts back to conservative Kyle, the Niners should win this game! 20-17

  8. unca_chuck says:

Crazy game. Cincy should let KC score here.

  9. Irish Kevin says:

Too bad Cincy didn’t get that fumble

  10. unca_chuck says:

Unreal. Cincy’s defense with 4 sacks.

  11. unca_chuck says:

    Up to the coin flip.

  12. unca_chuck says:

Wow. Gonna be a rematch for the ages. Part one off the plan has been reached..

  13. Lurker John says:

Congrats to the Bengals. What a run they’re on. Helluva comeback.

  14. Winder says:

I am glad Mahomes is gone.

  15. Irish Kevin says:

Okay Gentlemen, Bang, bang Niner Gang. Let’s do this!

  16. alleykat69 says:

Oh hell yes!! Williams deflects it and Jimmy Ward picks it!! Stafford turning into Goff as the Niners come up with a bigtime turnover..

  17. Irish Kevin says:

    Rams draw first blood

  18. Irish Kevin says:

Aiuk is having a good game

  19. Grumpy Guy says:

17 minutes to the Super Bowl. What a fucking year. They may just do it. Either that or give me a damned stroke.

  20. unca_chuck says:

    Taunting is fucking retarded
    To call.

  21. Irish Kevin says:

Why aren’t they double teaming Kupp

  22. Lurker John says:

That incredibly stupid play got that drive going. Niners looking to blow another late lead.

  23. Lurker John says:

Ambry Thomas has gotten shredded tonight.

  24. Lurker John says:

Better start thinking about those timeouts, because this one is just about over.

  25. Lurker John says:

Yet another massive choke job by a Shanahan coached team. His resume in the post season isn’t looking too good.

  26. Grumpy Guy says:

    So its stroke after all.

And so ends Jimmy G’s time in SF.

  27. Irish Kevin says:

The Niners need to draft for pass protection, not all of this is on JG

  28. The Los Angeles Rams says:

    I eat mom’s boogers!

  29. unca_chuck says:

Fucking Shanahan lost this. He has to eat yet another 4th quarter failure.

  30. Irish Kevin says:

The Offensive line is the week link in the Niners offense, too many of the really good players have to stay in to block.

  31. unca_chuck says:

The 2nd to last drive, no one anywhere knew what was going on. We got a delay of game and the other 2 plays were snapped with 00 on the clock and Shanny never called a timeout to get shit figured out.

2nd and 1. Run up the middle. 3rd and 1 run up the middle. Fuck me sideways. Tartt has to wear the dropped gift, but Shanny really screwed the pooch yet again with a 45th quarter lead.

I’ve been screaming for misdirection plays and we stopped doing it. We didn’t do it all playoffs.. Slants to Aiyuk and Kittle worked so naturally we stopped doing it.

He reverted to his bad habits.

    • Irish Kevin says:

On the post game they called out how the Niners rarely go man to man on D, but they did it most of the game. And got burned for it

  32. Irish Kevin says:

And two missed delay of game by the Rams that were not called

  33. alleykat69 says:

Jaquiski Tartt man’s up on his tweet
No excuses!! I deserve all the criticism my way!
Opportunity I dream of I came up short!!
Let my brothers down!! It Still won’t define me as
