The Dead Zone

One month to free agency (March 17). Pretty slow till then, but the fur will fly. We have a shit-ton of free agents but there will also be a bigger shit-ton of available guys. Granted, we don’t have much wiggle room with free agency, and the shrinking salary-covid-cap that has cut into it, but we should be looking to replace our mid-range guys with some other mid-range guys.

Does that include QB? Weeeellllll, once you get past Dak Prescott, you have Ryan Fitzpatrick (and his lover Patrick Fitzryan), Jameis Winston, and Cam Newton. In other words, nope.

Wide receiver appears to be the biggest stockpile. Chris Godwin, Allen Robinson, Ken Golladay, and Will Fuller are all young highly productive guys. Shit, even T.Y. Hilton should be affordable in a pinch. He might be a steal, and 31 ain’t that old.

Thing is, we stand to lose a lot of our guys to free agency, even if they aren’t rated that high. Except for Trent Williams. Of the 33 (!!!) free agents, I think we should focus on Williams, Verrett, Juice, Brunskill, and Kendrick Bourne. The list of meh is long. Wilson and Moseley are restricted FAs so they should be staying.

I’m on the fence regarding guys like Tartt, Witherspoon, and Blair, Willis DJ Jones, and Hyder, as they all had solid seasons for a defense decimated by injury. But guys like Mullens, Coleman, Trent Taylor, Reed (on the fence with him as well), Solly Thomas, Sherman, Grasu, and others should hit the road.

Anyhow, here’s our free agent list!

And I guess we will keep Josh Rosen. No more Mullens or Beater.

  2. NJ49er says:

I’m expecting to see plenty of 9ers migrating to Secaucus Chuck.
9ers East as Saleh rebuilds his JETS in the SF image.

  3. Winder says:

I hope we can keep quite a few of those guys. I would like to see Sherman become a coach. The players seem to really respect him. I think we lose Hyder to the jets and probably a few more. They can pay more money and Saleh is a players coach. We shall see.

  4. unca_chuck says:

Sherman wants to get paid and we ain’t gonna do that. I’d rather pay Verrett. He will coach in a couple years, but he would prolly make more money as a commentator.

  5. NJ49er says:

It would be a great gesture, from Saleh, for him to take Solomon Thomas off our hands. 😀

Given the Cap advantage the NYJ have, it would be great for them to waste some of it, to give us some future Comp Picks.
    We’re Cap strapped.
Jimmy holds the lion’s share of it too.

  6. Winder says:

The Jets do have the money to snag a lot of our players and I would rather see em go there than to fucking Seattle or any other division team.

  7. Winder says:

This years draft will be like none that we’ve had in a long time, if ever. They will allow only three members of any team at the pro days. No personal interviews. So they will have to rely on mostly last years tape and over the phone interviews. I see a lot of teams fucking up this year. Hopefully not us.

Seattle seems to pick up our leavings all the time. It’ll be interesting to see how and where these guys go. I think a lot of them will be able to come back without too much money flying out the door.

But decisions like Juice are gonna be tough. Like the scenario with DeFo, he was blindsided by the trade and was disappointed they didn’t even give him a shot to work out a deal going forward, so it would behoove the front office to talk to these guys about how to fit them in, if they are amenable.

My haunted excuse of a life has become the dead zone of stale food, warm beer, and no life with the rotted corpse of Gramma spewing to the zombies of the convalescent home doing the monster mash in their diapers.

As usual, thanks for sharing, skippy.

    Where’s Nipper?
