Color Me Floored

No way in hell did I think Tom Brady would take the Buccos to a Super Bowl. Brady is the pre-emptive MVP with his 4600 yard, 40 TD, 12 pick effort. This will be his 10th Super Bowl. Criminy. Nearly 20% of the Super Bowls involve him. 6 Super Bowl wins. Yadda yadda yadda.

I’ve come here not to praise Brady but to bury him. Sure, he’s from my home town and went to my high school. Meh. Sure, he’s had a phenomenal career and has won a ton of games, but the luck around his success cannot be understated. The Tuck Rule. The INT on the 1 yard line. Dee Ford lining up offsides. Atlanta hacking up a huge lead (thanks, Kyle).

On and on. 3 of his Super Bowls were solid performances. 6 not so much. But, hey, he got there yet again, so color me surprised. He also gets to be the first quarterback to play in his home stadium. The 49ers and Stanford stadium (their home after the earthquake) notwithstanding.

Anyhow, the adage has always been don’t bet against Brady in the playoffs. Well, fuck that. I don’t know. I think KC wins this, but I’ve been wrong about Brady before.

If Brady wins, it will further cement him as the GOAT. Again, meh. Where’s his touchdown to Clark in the NFC Championship game? Where’s his 95 yard drive leading up to the TD to John Taylor with time running out? When Montana got there (as well as Steve Young) he either dominated or hit a big play at a crucial time.

Game on the line and I get one QB? Montana all the way. Sure, I’m blinded by Joe. But then again, so were all the DBs he faced.

Chuck…Brady has 6 SB wins not 5 and going for #7..
Yeah it takes a combination of luck& obviously STUPID decisions (Carroll’s call at the goal line when you have the Beast) Atlanta’s choke job of being conservative with a huge lead( that’s on both Quinn and Shanny) “Tuck the Fuck” was the only obvious screwup by the refs that screwed Oakland. Yeah Dee Ford with a dumbshit offside penalty was a killer which cost them they’re 1st SB appearance in 49 years? Rather it’s luck, dumbshit coaching, are player blunder, Brady does carry a lucky charm around his neck..

    • Winder says:

I don’t really like Brady that much either but i am sooo glad Seattle called that pass at the goal line. That was a win in my mind. If the Bucs win the SB it will be because of their defense.
I am also in the Montana camp. When the game is on the line Montana was the man.

      • alleykat69 says:

Yeah Winder any big game needing a win Joe Montana was that man! And everytime they went to the SB under him I knew we would win !
He was the best money player under pressure I’ve seen.Anybody that is so calm and collective and telling his nervous teammates “Hey you guys see John Candy in the far endzone well that’s where we’re going to end up, and it loosened the players up for the winning drive!”

      • unca_chuck says:

Tell ya the truth, I woulda been happier with Seattle winning that. Brady’s luck is off the charts.

  2. eddacker says:

Brady – what a surprise. Great on ’em.Tom is an old man with a ton of stats. KC is a pretty good team, too. Mahomes is a GOAT in the making. But, Jack Clark? Mighty Joe getting up after DE laid him out 1 sec after the successful pass? And that innocent, embarrased grin he had when he knew it had gone well. Priceless

  3. unca_chuck says:

Hey Ed! That was Hollywood Henderson iirc. And Dwight Clark!!

  4. 12th Man says:

Count Steve Young and Greg Cowell firmly in the Stafford camp.
    Same points I’m making.

Be nice to get something for Jimmy 12th.
I’m all good with a swap of Stafford too.
Deshaun officially seeking a trade now too.
All sorts of things to speculate on now.
In a perfect world, Jimmy back to Bill for a 2 would be great.
Jimmy in a multiple team trade involving Deshaun would blow my mind.

  5. Irish Kevin says:

If the Niners are going to go after a 33 year old, they had better upgrade their O-line for pass protection. I have never been a fan of getting players after they turn 30, Chuck got to read my rants about the SF Giants always going after older vets. So I would still draft a QB.

    • 12th Man says:

Not so sure that axiom applies in today’s game Kevin. Careers are far longer with all the powder puff rules for protecting QB’s.

  6. unca_chuck says:

Fuck Stafford. Yeah, he’s better than Jimmy G but he’s no spring chicken. Tom fucking Brady notwithstanding. He’s gonna cost some. But Watson, as much as I would dig it would likely cost the team their future.

We ain’t gonna get a DeAndre Hopkins for David Johnson kind of deal.

I’m for drafting a QB, even looking at trading up.

    • Winder says:

No matter what we do we still have to draft a QB this year. I don’t think Stafford is gonna cost that much and I am fine with Jimmy for another year but I have a feeling he won’t be able to stay on the field and that mean everything.

  7. Color Me Bored says:

Have you fools accepted the fact that Bill Bellichick was spot on when he traded Jimmuh Pornsloppaplo to the Niners?

    • NJ49er says:

Definite upgrade for LA, though they’ve still been burned financially on the Goff Contract overall from what I’m seeing.
Though I would have preffered Stafford over Jimmy, the price tag was a bit too steep for me, and obviously for Lynch.

If we’re going to part with multiple future 1’s, do it for Deshaun, who is much more dynamic and, considerably younger.
Rams are now extending their post Goff 1st RD Pick drought from 2016 thru 2023, OOOOF.
One thing can easily be seen in LA, they don’t structure Contracts too well.

      • NJ49er says:

One thing I can honestly say, Paraag does very well for us by structuring Contracts that don’t sink the budget.
For that reason, his ability to get out from under Jimmy’s deal is something I hope they can take full advantage of right now.
Even with a No-Trade Clause, (where Houston is concerned), GM Caserio & Jimmy are both Pat’s connected, which could be advantageous.
If not, they simply look elsewhere to try to obtain some Trade benefit (Pat’s).

Happy to have some things like this to talk about at this point, since I’m likely to ignore my 1st SB in my life.
Ho-Hum doesn’t begin to define how little I care about this one.
        Even the advertisers are bailing.

      • unca_chuck says:

Jalen Ramsey cost them one as well.

  8. unca_chuck says:

Jesus. two 1st round picks is too steep. The Rams will regret this. You build in the NFL through the draft.

  9. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, that’s been my point as well. If you are gonna give up the ghost, get Watson, not Stafford.

  10. Irish Kevin says:

They either do it through the draft (best option) or they go after Watson strong.

  11. Winder says:

I think the Jets or Miami are only teams that can afford what they want. We just have to hit in the draft. But so far our QB guru Shanny hasn’t done all that great. That has to change

    • Irish Kevin says:

Need an O-line that knows what pass protection is. That is the glaring weakness on offense. The Niners have been a run orientated team since the Nolan days. That is why the Niner QBs are always getting hurt.

      • NJ49er says:

I’ve read that ZBS linemen are typically less adept at pass pro Irish Kevin.
Guessing you fix that by faster release and mobile QB.
2 things Jimmy isn’t doing too well.

This sums things up pretty well –

  13. unca_chuck says:

These articles are great. All the Rams have to do is win the Super Bowl. No prob. In a vacuum it is a great idea. If we had gotten Brady would we be playing KC? Not behind this line, I’d think but who knows? The risk even there was light years away from Goff let alone Watson.

If it happens, hey good on them. They took a huge risk and it paid off. More than likely they fall short and slide down the NFL ladder while the talent drifts away over the next 6 years.

  14. NJ49er says:

I’ve been entertaining myself with the situation involving the Texans and what it might take to pry Deshaun loose.
Get a gander at the resumè attached to the guy running the show in Houston –

    https://www.houstontexans.com/team/front-office-roster/jack-easterby

    Mind blown.

    • NJ49er says:

I’ve never seen a resumè filled with so much nonsense in my life, let alone a guy running an NFL front office.
I’m now much more clear on how they let DHop go to AZ for next to nothing and, why Bill O’Brien got to do as much as he did, while accomplishing next to nothing.
From what I’ve read tonight, Easterby is GM Caserio’s boss.

Lynch better get to work on Jack, to reunite him with Jimmy and Caserio, for Deshaun.

  15. alleykat69 says:

If the 49ers want to make the jump to the top again and have a top 3 QB imo they have to put a sweet but unpopular move to get Watson.. How’s this deal sound..2 firsts, 2 Seconds, Jimmy G, Kinlaw &Greenlaw? Texans are looking for 2 young defensive starters. I’m not giving up either Warner are Bosa are even Armstead if possible..

    • Winder says:

kat I wouldn’t want to give up Greenlaw. I don’t think we have the horses to get Watson. I think the only reason they might trade him to us instead of the Jets or the Dolphins would be to get him out of the AFC. I just don’t see either Lynch or Shanny doing it. I think we gotta figure on hitting one out of the park in the draft.

  16. unca_chuck says:

I’d give up Armstead before Kiblaw or Greenlaw. But that is pretty steep.

    I wouldn’t do it.

    New thread is up.
