Game 8 – Halfway to Somewhere

This will be the halfway point of the season, and based on how this has gone, even being near .500 is a bit of an accomplishment. As bad as I thought Shanny and Co were doing during the first few weeks of the injury parade, they have redeemed themselves pretty well in beating the Rams and the Pats.

Now of course is the Seahawks. A bigger test than both those teams. The good news is no deafening crowd, no 12th man, and Seattle is not exactly the legion of Boom anymore. More like the Legion of Zoom as passes riddle their defense, and points fly on the board. They are dead last in defense by half a football field. And that’s saying something seeing how well Teflon Mike Nolan’s defense is doing in Dallas, and the Falcons being the Falcons.

The bad news is Russell Wilson is having an MVP season. Without him, this team is likely 1-5. With him, they are in every game. His receivers are absolute studs, and they can get open at will whenever Wilson leaves the pocket and buys a minute or two back there. They look to pass as they are beat up at running back, so we NEED to scheme some blitzes as we can’t just let Wilson pick us apart.

Looks to be some kind of shootout. Bet the over, which is an absurdly low 53.5.

  1. Winder says:

Yeah, it’s pretty much always about Wilson when we play these guys. Hope we can limit the damage.

  2. unca_chuck says:

Stunning stat. Kyler Murray threw 48 passes last week. 0 sacks, 0 hits on him by the Seattle defense. And without their corners, we need to attack them in the air. Jimmy G needs to avoid the occasional mistake.

  3. The 49ers says:

We’re going to kick ass and take names today. Rushin’ Russell Wilson better watch out because we’re going to SMASH him!

  4. Winder says:

I guess that was supposed to be a trick play.

  5. alleykat69 says:

Was Shanny on major drugs with that garbage call lining up Jimmy G outside and Jet taking the snap with a Seattle obviously knows it’s a run ? Predictable loss of yards leading to a punt..

  6. Winder says:

I knew Reed was gonna bite us in the ass. I don’t see how we let them get him.

    • Lurker John says:

Seattle has been doing that to S.F. for years. As soon as the Niners cut someone, he’s picked up by Seattle. Carroll is smarter than most of the guys the Niners have had running the show, and the guys they pick up always either hurt them on the field or tell them about the playbook, etc.

  7. Lurker John says:

Nice play by Hasty. He looks like a keeper. Coleman or McKinnon went out with another injury. What a shocker. Maybe Hasty will be the guy who actually stays on the field, KNOCK ON WOOD.

  8. Irish Kevin says:

Well if R Wilson gets in rhythm with passing the ball the Niners will lose this game.

  9. unca_chuck says:

We need to blitz. Way too much time for Wilson.

  10. Lurker John says:

Wilson is hot now. Ain’t gonna be pretty from here on out. No pass rush whatsoever, AGAIN.

  11. Winder says:

Unless Wilson has a brain fart it will be a long day for the Niners. We can’t cover Metcalf.

  12. Lurker John says:

    Auf wiedersehen, 49ers.

  13. Irish Kevin says:

What happened to the plays they used against me

  14. Irish Kevin says:

The o-line is built for running, it cannot protect JG when he needs to pass

  15. Winder says:

We let both demontre moore and dj reed get away from us. we should have locked up both of em.

  16. Lurker John says:

Shanahan needs to pull his head out of his ass. Slow developing plays against a good defense will never work.

  17. Irish Kevin says:

Quit that shit, throw the ball down the field

  18. unca_chuck says:

Of course I give Shanny kudos and he pulls that shit. Throwing into the defense. Fucking read that, Jimmy. Fucking awful.

  19. Winder says:

    Fuck this.

  20. Irish Kevin says:

Good job O-Line way to pass protect

  21. Irish Kevin says:

Of course they are going to “run” out the clock

  22. unca_chuck says:

Wow. We suck. Can’t block one on one. Jimmy G is just awful. As is the blocking. They get a TD here, the game is over.

  23. unca_chuck says:

Sad we can’t take a shot. On the 1st down play, Bourne was one on one with the corner and no safety help. No shot downfield.

  24. unca_chuck says:

I’m so fucking tired of this team never going deep. The past 5 coaches have steadfastly refused to do it.

This game is over. That really sucks.

  25. Irish Kevin says:

This is what needs to happen next year, the Niners need to quit going after RB’s, go get an O-line that knows what Pass blocking is, and gets some more WR’s

  26. unca_chuck says:

Yay At least we know the game is over.

  27. Irish Kevin says:

So the running game is coughing up fumbles and JG is throwing INT due to no pass protection

  28. unca_chuck says:

    Pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft.

  29. Grumpy Guy says:

This is not a shootout, it’s a firing squad.

Yeah I really didn’t think this was going to be our year with everyone hurt. Nothing I saw today changes that. We’re a .500 team right now. If that. Not going to change much until next year.

Cue the backup quarterback bandwagon again. I’ve lost track, is it going to be Beathard or Mullens now? Hint: It does not matter this year.

  30. unca_chuck says:

Who the fuck is out O line coach? We can’t pick up a blitz. Get Jimmy out.

  31. alleykat69 says:

Now Jimmy G has his out.The pussy just limped to the sidelines he’s done no toughness..

  32. unca_chuck says:

Yeah we are down to our 3rd string center, but the rest of the O line is flat awful.

  33. unca_chuck says:

OH FUCK. This season can’t get any worse, but then again it keeps getting worse.

  34. unca_chuck says:

Jimmy G shows no heart not going for the 1st down, and then they have to punt.

  35. alleykat69 says:

DK Metcalf last pick in the 2019 draft 2nd rd number 64! Kid was obviously going to be the next TO for the Niners at 6’4 235 and built like a chiseled god..
But hey the 49ers decided to not try and move up a few spots to get him and drafted at #67Jaylin “ I’ve never played in a football game Hurd” Yeah hows that working out? Hurd’s gonna be a bust
    it’s time to admit it..

  36. alleykat69 says:

And can anyone explain why Shanny’s other major bust Dante Pettit is still on this team? My god cow shit smells better then this guy’s performance since he’s been here!!!

  37. unca_chuck says:

    Damn. BDN is back.

  38. unca_chuck says:

Almost had a shot. Shanny is stupid going for the onsides kick. Fucking stupid.

  39. unca_chuck says:

Forcef them deep. 3 and out and you have field position for the next score. THEN you go onsides.

    Stupid shit from Shanny.

  40. unca_chuck says:

Love that call. Wilson fakes going down and draws the penalty.

  41. Irish Kevin says:

Just too many injuries this season, what is it 14 starters on IR? Let’s see COVID, injuries, yeah 2020 a year to remember.

  42. unca_chuck says:

Yup. I’d say let Mullens play out the string. Or at least the next few games. Jimmy G is proving to be a liability at this point. He either needs to get right, or get out. I’m tired of this shit.

  43. NJ49er says:

Here’s a good summation of many of our thoughts –
Garcia and Whitner, I’m there with you. COMPLETELY

    https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/49ers/49ers-jimmy-garoppolo-doesnt-strike-fear-opponents-donte-whitner-says

    • NJ49er says:

Our Offense isn’t NASTY enough IMO.
We can’t/don’t play well against pressure.
Either it’s the QB making the protection calls or, we don’t ‘muscle up’ too well?
Driving me mad of late to see how inept we are when pressure packages are thrown our way.
I’m curious to see what we have with McKivitz at this point too.
Start evaluating some things along the OLine. Why not?
Is McGlinchey suited to handle the OT position?
Can he produce inside at OG? Maybe McKivitz inside?
Things need to be improved in terms of Pass Pro.

Hard to remain even a little optimistic if Kittle goes down for any length of time.
This Offense gets a little too ‘gimmicky’ for me lately.
Play some smash mouth football for a change and, challenge Defenses deep once in awhile maybe?

      Hard to remain optimistic…

  44. unca_chuck says:

The line calls come from the center based on the play called in the huddle. In our case, it is Hruss Whoever our 3rd string guy. Hasty missed blitz pickups a few times, and there were issues across the line all day. Until Mullens came in.

The offene is fine when we are able to throw downfield. Mullens was successful doing that. It opens up the intermediate passing game. Jimmy G is either hurt or toast, so the team needs to start Mullens for the next few weeks.

  45. Winder says:

Remember the last time Mullens had a great game, a week later he through a total stinker. We need to use the rest of the season to evaluate and basically start pretty much over. To be competitive we need to dump some dead weight big contracts. We have so many holes that one draft isn’t gonna cut it.

  46. alleykat69 says:

49ers trade LB Kwon AleXander to the Saints for much traveled LB Kiko Alonso and a conditional 5th rd pick..

  47. unca_chuck says:

New thread is up. Niners dealing with upcoming salary cap issues in dealing Alexander.

    Dee Ford will be next.
