Funny thing happened on the way to the Super Bowl. We suddenly suck old-sweaty dog balls. In yet another embarrassing home loss to a shitty team, the 49ers let the 1-3 Miami Dolphins throw all over our depleted secondary, and harass out quarterbacks to abject ineffectiveness and handed us a 43-17 loss that wasn’t even that close. Miami stopped us from the get-go.
After a quick 3 and out, they hit on a 50 yard pass against Brian Allen. A truly awful corner who played so well that we left him on his island for most of the 1st half and he was 0-10 defending passes and committed 2 PIs. A perfect outing that gave Miami 21 points and 258 yards passing. In the 1st half.
The fact that Selah THEN decided to put in Witherspoon is baffling. If Ahkello was able to play in the 2nd quarter, why couldn’t have they pulled the plug earlier? Or even start ‘Spoon? It just baffles me that on EVERY big 3rd down, they went to Allen and hit the play. No help from Ward. Over and over Fitzpatrick hit whoever Allen was on. No pass rush to speak of, and of course we gave up a 12 yard run on 3rd and 8. To 37 year old Ryan Fitzpatrick. Our future backup QB. The play of the game ended up being a 3rd and 16 dump-off over the middle that got 15 yards. The Niners had cut the score to 30-14 early in the 3rd quarter and were looking for a quick 3 and out to get the ball back. They would have punted had we been able to stop the play for less than 15 yards. But no.
Our offense on the other hand continues to sputter and stall on our plethora of slow developing plays that get our quarterbacks sacked, hurried, and hit with regularity. No quick passes, no slants off 3 step drops. The run game, except for the occasional big run by Mostert, and a jet sweep here and there, has been stalled because as far as I can tell, teams have stopped biting on all our pre-snap motion and simply play things straight up. Our interior blocking is just not any good.
Tell ya one thing, this is how the Rams felt lat year when it seemed that McVay went from the penthouse to the outhouse. Shanahan can’t convert a 4th down to save his life. Mainly because he does the same run up the middle. 0-4 this year. A bunch of guys running around but no play action, no misdirection.
Shany is wearing on my nerves this season. He refuses to adjust to game situations that are readily apparent to everyone but him.
This goes all the way back to the Singletary years, running the ball 🏈 when you are down by 14 gets you nowhere, and as far as I am concerned theNiners need to draft a mobile QB, cause even with a healthy D the Niners are always getting burned by one, whether it be Russell or Fitzpatrick, or Mahomes. Jimmy’s legs are the same since he tore his acl. Or the Niners have told him not to run.
Tank the season already.
Agree, they’re no fun to watch and, extremely predictable.
Shanny has too many gadgets and not enough muscle.
Jimmy is NOT the answer IMO.
Too skiddish. Too indecisive.
Can’t enjoy football with empty stadiums to begin with. 2 straight weeks of opponents shutting things down simply says Shanny has been exposed to me.
Offense doesn’t work when the OL can’t produce.
We need a stud CB and a NASTY OG.
Having my doubts lately about our OT situation as well.
We’re looking at an 0-5 stretch coming up too.
Can’t call us a contender any longer.
We SUCK.
Exactly how I see things.
It was sad to watch this one. We crumbled on all fronts. Just gonna have to see how we adjust in the next couple of games. We have got good players but it sure didn’t look like it today. I am not so sure if it’s Shanny’s game planning that is being exposed or just the lack of execution. Probably a little of both. I do think we need more mobility out of our QB not only because that’s what’s trending but because it seems to be successful. Jimmy has to play better or he is done. We are definitely missing Buckner. There were so many weak spots for us in this game that it was hard to fathom. We didn’t look this bad in any of the games when we went 0-9.
Shanahan is the head coach. It all comes back to him. Game planning, execution, he’s the guy. Like NJ said, he’s been exposed and, IMO, his own ego won’t let him see it or make the necessary changes, if he even can. It’s also time to take the out in JG’s contract and get rid of him. He’ll never be a champion in this league.
I tell ya, everybody looks shitty. Seattle hasn’t converted a 3rd down, and Minn just picked off Wilson. The 1-3 Vikings are gonna beat the 4-0 Hawks. Then Minn chokes a 4th down instead of going up 8. Dumb. I get not giving the ball to Wilson but you just set yourself up for the loss.
The Rams look like crap. AZ looks eminently beatable. Us? We’re a fucking mess. KC isn’t the juggernaut they were last year. Buffalo is the class of the NFL? Green Bay? Fuck I don’t know. This weird season is just a hot mess. 2 coaches have already been fired, Trubiscuit benched, the Bears are 4-1?
2020 Chuck.
Fecklessness and who’da thunk it grabbed the controls.
All you have to do is watch Seattle and R Wilson, he ran for the 1st down and it has been pass the ball 🏈. No runs.
Well, they are down 2 scores and have no time. There is nothing wrong with having a strong run game. If you can’t pass block you can’t pass.
I will say, Garoppolo was not driving the ball off his fucked up ankle. He had no power on his throws. And the line, and the CB debacle . . .
Wilson has taken them 90 yards so far,
Minnesota really blew it. I get being aggressive, but to put a team down by 8 you do it.
Yeah they are.. Godamm u automatically take the 3 make it 29-21, then Seattle still has to March all the way down field to score and then make a 2 pt conversion just to send it into OT!! Stupid coaching by Zimmer, somebody on the sidelines need to shake him and get him to make sense…
Hawks 5-0!!! Pass pass pass. Kyle needs to learn this!!! It pisses me off to see teams Pass the ball down the field and score easily. What do the Niners do run, run, run.
Do you ever sing a different tune? Every week it’s the same bullshit, like a fucking broken record.
I have watching the Niners run the ball since Singletary, the Niners are 0-3 in trying to run to win an SB. If you can show me a Highlight of Montana or Young Handing the ball off to win a SB I will stop complaining about the shitty run calls
Dante “Hitman” Whitner was all over Spoon not starting. If your healthy enough to dress your healthy enough to start! He plays “SOFT” as a player not willing to gut it out.You leave your team vulnerable when they have to bring a inexperienced player(Allen) up from the practice squad to start and then don’t give him help in coverages.A vet like Fitzpatrick sees that and automatically turns into Joe Montana picking the new corner apart..
Witherspoon is not the answer to anything. He sucks ass and always will. Lynch and Shanahan have not addressed the gaping holes in the secondary, and plenty of other areas, and that’s on them.
Witherspoon wouldn’t have given up 258 yards to Miami in the 1st half.
Spoon not playing is on the coaches. Sure, Spoon should man up and get in there, but in the end it;s the coaching staff not putting the right people on the field.
Our starting corners were supposed to be Sherman and either Moseley or Verrett.
Shit happened.
Spoon has the raw talent but not the attitude and heart. He gets down after a mistake and makes more mistakes.
When you’re starting some fifth-string waiver wire claim who really should not even be on an NFL roster…
More shit is gonna happen.
Three games back already with the “tough” part of the schedule coming up. Barring a historic, Hollywood movie-worthy turnaround, we are not winning the division and may not even contend for a playoff spot. May just not be our year.
Agree Grump, this is not our year. Our DB’s getting continually burned is understandable with our circumstances. What really steamed me was our offense. If Jimmy wasn’t ready he should not have been in there. We were inept moving the ball and a lot of that has to be on the coaches.
Yeah, the coaches have to wear the calls they made regarding Garoppolo and Allen. I just don’t get Witherspoon being on the sidelines while Allen got torched repeatedly all 1st half. Yeah, our CBs are hurt, but we obviously need depth. But why didn’t he get the start if he was able to play? Either the coaches tell him to go in, or what? I’m gonna wait till w are down 21?
Verrett playing well is a shock, but that shouldn’t have been counted on. We needed CB depth and didn’t do anything this offseason. I didn’t like that then and I really don’t like it now.
Doink! SD with the miss. You think we are snakebit? The Chargers are the poster children for heartbreaking losses this season.
Still think the NFL should adopt some variant of the college football overtime. It’s bullshit when the coin flip is the biggest determining factor of the OT. Teams start from their own 40. I don’t like the college version of starting on the opponent 35.
Chargers lose another heartbreaker.
I can’t bring myself to start peeking at the Draft options this early in the season. BUT!
I don’t see another W on our scheduled until after the BYE.
We might be better off sliding back into the top 10 again to secure a shot at a stud OT or DB.
In the meantime, watching the way we’ve performed the past 2 weeks doesn’t bring any optimism to the table.
Something to think about I guess?
Though I’m not interested, some things in the article might suggest Shanny and Jimmy may not be a long term relationship in the making.

Well it is a what have you done for me lately league. Nothing stays the same unless you have moronic leadership and I don’t believe that’s the case with us.
Fuck, I don’t know. They aren’t gonna simply dump Jimmy after this last shit game, and they shouldn’t, but if he gets the nod against the Rams he’d better play a shit-ton better than what we’ve seen so far.
But then again, the blocking needs to improve dramatically as well. None of our QBs are mobile by any measure, and escaping pressure is impossible when you have 3 guys in the pocket stomping on your face.
What we need to do, and this was apparent HALFWAY THROUGH THE FUCKING AZ GAME is quicken up the pass plays. Get the ball out faster. Anything to develop a rhythm to get the chains moving.
Shanahan is really disappointing me in that he hasn’t adjusted to all the pressure given up by this shitty pass protection.
Matty Ice would be a disaster. Waaaaaaay too much money for a prayer. No fucking way on God’s green earth should we do that. Making the playoffs would be nice, but without Bosa and the rest, this is not a team one player away. We are decimated on defense and won’t last if we get in.
Best to take our lumps and see what shakes out the rest of the year.
Problem with getting the ball out faster is, Jimmy has been late as it is with a lot of his passes.
Faster plays puts even more pressure on him to process and read the defenses more quickly.
As I see it, this season is probably a bust. The defense is just too hobbled – now we hear that Kwon has a high ankle sprain, and Sherman had a “setback.” FML.
So treat the next 11 weeks as an audition for Garoppolo to get this shit right. Get right physically, and then prove he can elevate his game and keep up with the defenses trying to stop him. If not, we’ll have some painful decisions to make in the off-season and the draft.
Pretty much my assessment too Grump –
Jimmy = INDECISIVE
Can’t be a winning QB in this league and expect to succeed in this type of Offense when you double clutch and hesitate.
Either Jimmy can’t see things quickly or, he’s simply lost in Shanny’s system?
I go back to the SB. Shanny built a lead and got conservative. Fine.
But… Jimmy missed more than a few BIG throws in that game to take Shanny off the hook to some degree.
Something is misfiring between them IMO.
I’m leaning toward ‘Don’t spend starter money on Jimmy’.

I figure he’s got 11 weeks to fix it, or at least show some major progress. I hope he does, because junking a starting QB in the NFL is very rarely a painless process resulting in better things anytime soon.
Happy 58th, Jerry!
Looks like the players will get their metal tested for the rest of the year. I can see a big turnover after the season. What will be the highest priority is anybody’s guess since we are weak at most positions. A mobile QB would be nice, a couple of actual CB’s are needed as well. Sherman just might not come back. Lynch is gonna have a huge job this coming year. I have a feeling we will losee Saleh over the season which might be a good change. One things for sure the whole team better start eating their Wheaties.
We are gonna need LBs now if Kwon doesn’t start paying better. We have little depth there. CB and O line are thin as we all know. Offensively we seem OK. Garoppolo has been given the green light, so the hope is he’s not throwing ducks on Sunday night. Pettis has to go, and Taylor isn’t doing what he did when Jimmy G first got here.
Then again everyone seems to have regressed.
Niners sign Parnell Motley to join our motley crue of cornerbacks.
That was fun.
Not a big fan of theirs, but they sure looked like they were always having way too much fun.
Sad to say HOF player Fred Dean has died at the age of 68 from Covid-19..
A true legend especially when he became a 49er stalwart as a dominant pass rusher!
RIP Fred you will be sorely missed🙏
That is sad news. the hits just keep coming in 2020. RIP Fred Dean. You gave me the time of my life. Many times.
Yeah, this really sucks. Such a great player and great guy.
This year keeps on giving nothing but pain.
New thread is up.
