AA And DeFoBu

Signing Arik Armstead is a great move. He gets 5/$85 mill. Love it. He’s the true quintessential down and dirty defensive lineman that does the hard work in the trenches who often takes on double teams and keeps the linebackers clean to make plays. The fact that he got 10 sacks is a testament to his guts and determination.

That being said, trading DeForest Buckner makes no sense to me. He’s the heart and soul of the defense, and has been a mainstay since he got here. The only way it makes sense is that we don’t have to dole out a giant deal to him after the season ends. We do get a high 1st round pick, so there’s the caveat.

I wrote last week that this is how they could have dealt with AA, but they got a pretty good pick for DeFo. These are the tough decisions that guys like Lynch and Paraag have to make to keep the team competitive for more than a year or two. We get a high pick in a year of not many picks, and I feel like we are just getting started in the trading department. Guys like Goodwin and Witherspoon can garner us some more picks, so we’ll see what the future brings. Or if there IS a future. Commence zombie apocalypse . . .

And I’m NOT very happy about DeAndre Hopkins going to the Cardinals. He is a stud of the highest order, and he’s a guy I would love to have on our team. He’s gonna be a major pain in the ass for the next few years.

Hopefully, they have their eyes on D-ine FA’s. To me that’s the only way it makes any sense at all.

Jesus. Just read the details of the trade. Houston’s GM should be shot. They trade away DeAndre Hopkins for perennially injured David Johnson? What an absolute steal for AZ.

Houston got too enamored with Tenn’s Derrick Henry and the 49ers running game. Ludicrous.

And the 49ers thankfully say no to Mr. Saggy Balls.

This pisses me off! Buckner is a rock solid stud who anchors that frontline and is in his PRIME!!!
Fuck he’s a Bryant Young type player with endurance only missing 1 game in his 4 seasons!!

Not happy with it but I get why they did it. Moore and Jones will come back. Blair may as well, and they can get a free agent as well. They need draft picks. There will be more trades coming.

It’s hard to keep everyone together and they need to get more pieces. Like a WR who can be a bona fide deep threat. Harry Ruggs springs to mind.

Puts a lot of options in their hands with 13 & 31.
WR/DL/OL/CB could be had in Top 15.
I’ve purposely looked past many of them already due to being in the 31st slot.
    All bets are off now…

  7. Berger says:

The player I would like at #13 is Jerry Jeudy, WR from Alabama.

  8. Berger says:

Something tells me the pick at #13 will be a CB.

  9. 12th man says:

They signed Jimmy Ward back for 3 years. That means 10 of the 11 D guys are returning.

  10. NJ49er says:

What would you give to DC Danny for the 2nd pick and a shot at Chase Young?

  11. unca_chuck says:

And in semi-shocking news, Jerick McKinnon said he would ‘do whatever’ to remain a 49er, and they restructured his deal. No details yet. Another smei-head scratcher was they tendered a 2nd round deal to Matt Breida. He went to the dog house late in the season and if they lose him, they’ll get a 2nd round pick.

So it Iooks like they are banking on Jerick to get back, and are willing to let Breida go. Seems a little risky, but in true Shanahan fashion, the family is very good at making low-level running backs look like Terrell Davis.

    • Winder says:

They also put a 2nd rd tender on Bourne. It wouldn’t surprise me if both Breida and Bourne get picked up. i know it sounds high for bourn and Breida but they were both Clutch most of the time Bourne pretty much all the time. I would also do what I could to get Chase Young, He’s just like Bosa.

  12. unca_chuck says:

Didn’t see the Bourne tender. Chase Young would cost a lot. Just like Bosa he’ll go #2 behind Burrow.

  13. alleykat69 says:

They reupped with Blair on a 1 year deal.Like that move, he’s a solid backup with upside.
I don’t know why I just have a gut feeling Brady is going to be a Charger instead of a Buccaneer.Chargers will still draft a QB, Herbert? But who better to learn from with a couple years under Brady’s wings?

  14. unca_chuck says:

Brady went to the Tampa Bay Bucs. ROB will give you an in-depth report soon!!!

  15. unca_chuck says:

Blair, Jones, and Moore are all great players. Got to wonder what it would take to sign DJ Reader (Texans). Very solid inside guy. He would fit right in. He’s gonna get a pretty big deal i think.

  16. alleykat69 says:

DJ Reader did get his deal.. 4 years 53 million dineros with the Cincinnati Bengals..

  17. unca_chuck says:

    Ahhh, missed that.
