PLAYOFF GAME DAY !! Divisional Diversions

Here we are on the brink of another wild weekend of football. This means so much more now that we are back in the playoffs after a 5 year absence. Here’s the schedule:

Saturday, Jan. 11
No. 6 Vikings at No. 1 49ers, 1:35 p.m. PT (NBC, stream on fuboTV here)
No. 6 Titans at No. 1 Ravens, 5:15 p.m. ET (CBS, stream on CBS All Access here)

Sunday, Jan. 12
No. 4 Texans at No. 2 Chiefs, 12:05 p.m. PT (CBS, stream on CBS All Access here)
No. 5 Seahawks at No. 2 Packers, 3:40 p.m. PT (Fox, stream on fuboTV here)

Minnesota gets the shortest end of the stick as they played last Sunday, have only 5 days to get ready, and they fly west to kill most of a day. They also have the disadvantage of being a dome team playing outside. Minn was 4-4 on the road, but all 4 losses came outdoors. They beat the Giants, Deetroit, Dallas, and the Chargers. 2 outdoor teams (NYG, Bolts) with a combined record of 9-23. So, there’s that.

The rest? We’ll see. Seattle I think is the class of the rest of the NFC. Maybe it’s just the way we kicked their ass, but I don’t see them taking Seattle. Rodgers looks skittish when pressure, and they can go south in a hurry. Hawks 24 – GB 17.

Ravens and Chiefs should roll. Balt 31 – Tenn 14 . . . . . . . . Chiefs 35 – Texans 20.

Pretty sure our game is gonna be another down to the wire nailbiter. It’s just what we do. We play a clean game we probably got em. We make mistakes probably not. In a perfect world I would like to see us and KC in the big show I think that would be a hellova game.

  2. unca_chuck says:

If we play defense like we should, I don’t think we’ll have too much of an issue with these guys.

They lost to most of the tough teams they faced. Except last week of course. Outdoors, short week, 5 hour travel . . .

That’s why they play the game though.

  3. unca_chuck says:

And we are getting a little bit healthy. Hope to see Earl Mitchell in there.

And I think we win 30-20.

  4. unca_chuck says:

    38 years ago today . . .

Where were you? I was back at home, sick as a dog, watching on the couch as a bunch of friends went to the game.

  5. unca_chuck says:

    Food for thought:

    Kirk Cousin Career Stats:
    Record in the playoffs: 1-2
    Record In Primetime Games: 5-16🙈
Record vs Winning Teams: 5-29 🙈
Record vs Winning Teams This Year: 1-5 🙈
    Career Road Record: 17-27-2 🙈
Career Record On Monday Night Football: 0-9 🙈

  6. unca_chuck says:

Then again, he was on the Redskins for a long time.

  7. 12th man says:

Man it’s good to be back in the playoffs!
Its buzzing here today. Looking forward to a win and losing my voice again.
    Go Niners!!!

  8. rtfirefly says:

NFL Network reports that Dee Ford will be activated today!

The Niners will rock ‘n’ roll. On Kirk Cousins’ head. 31-20.

  9. 12th man says:

Alexander, Tartt and Person are playing, just waiting on news of Dee Ford, squad is close to full strength. Rust is a concern but their backups are very capable.

  10. alleykat69 says:

Theirs only 2 black Head coaches in football,Tomlin&Lynn so it’s the usual lip service Rooney rule that teams have to oblige too in coaching interviews.Easy to see why Saleh would pass in the world of Good Old Boys owners, who would rather stick to established over the hill coaches, are trying to hit on the next hot shot college coach..

  11. rtfirefly says:

    49 Inactives (just announced):

    QB C.J. Beathard
    RB Jeff Wilson Jr.
    WR Jordan Matthews
    TE Daniel Helm
    DL Kevin Givens
    CB Dontae Johnson
    LB Azeez Al-Shaair

  12. Irish Kevin says:

Here we go, let’s go Niners

  13. Irish Kevin says:

    Wow Jimmy GGGG

  14. alleykat69 says:

Coming out on 🔥! JimmyG carving up the Vikings secondary!

  15. Irish Kevin says:

WTF was that, 3 and out the first D series, and then you give up a bomb??

  16. unca_chuck says:

    Witherspoon had position and tripped.

Jimmy with the horrible pass. Got the sack though. Stopped them up close.

  17. Winder says:

its gonna come down to the wire, the Vikings came to play

  18. alleykat69 says:

Sherman great pick on a shit Cousins throw.
49ers finally wised up, looks like they benched Witherspoon for Moseley and it’s already paying off!

  19. Irish Kevin says:

    Niners OLine ruling

  20. Irish Kevin says:

I want Another score to completely put this game away

  21. Winder says:

Me too. Shanny’s playing the clock.

  22. Grumpy Guy says:

    Absolutely dominant on both lines.

Only bad game was Witherspoon. And to some extent Jimmy. But we did not really need to pass today. Garoppolo will need to play better next week, though.

  23. Winder says:

Wow, they just took it too em in the second half. What a great game

  24. Irish Kevin says:

183 rushing yards to 25, The D dominated

  25. alleykat69 says:

Overall a dominating performance especially once Shanny benched Witherspoon for Moseley. No way Moseley won’t start over him next week..

  26. unca_chuck says:

I gave Minn too much credit. Everything Minn threw, but the one TD, was underneath. Ford and Alexander are so essential to our overall defense, and it showed in spades today. Our speed now is off the charts. I feel bad for Witherspoon. He is a talent, but man, when he misses, he misses bad. That shoulda been a pick and he gives up the only TD. Moeley should start next week, but it’s always nice to hasve a guy like him in your back pocket.

The entire D line was phenomenal. Cook had 1 yard rushing in the 2nd half I think. 9 rushes, 18 yards? FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!!!!

  27. unca_chuck says:

Holy shit. Tenn and Tannehill is killing it!!!!!

  28. unca_chuck says:

Jimmy got his playoff legs today. His first drive was perfection. The rest of the game was all about the run. We came out of the game unscathed, so that is huge. I like us against Seattle or GB.

I wonder if Seattle cam pull of another road playoff win. If so, they need to do it 3 times here. I don’t see that happening.

    • Winder says:

I just read something about GB players having the flu. I don’t see how anyone can play with the flu

  29. rtfirefly says:

The Seahawks have lost 8 straight at Lambeau.

Also, the record for fewest first downs allowed in the playoffs since the NFL/AFL merger in 1970 is 6. The Vikings got their 7th with 1:40 left in the 4th quarter (Frank Schwab).

  30. unca_chuck says:

Does Balt whine on every play?

  31. unca_chuck says:

I’m really digging the 4th down stuffs.

  32. unca_chuck says:

That was something! Henry to Davis!!!

  33. alleykat69 says:

Yeah just before the snap I see Tannehill on the sidelines and they pan back to the snap and their is Henry in the shotgun, I thought he was going to run it like a wildcat, but nooo jump pass!!

  34. unca_chuck says:

Didn’t see this coming, I was talking to a buddy who wanted to know what was up with Tannehill. I said he was a good QB on a horrible Dolphin team. He’s now taking advantage of a good situation.

Didn’t think he would be this good though.

  35. unca_chuck says:

    Shit, this ain’t over.

  36. Grumpy Guy says:

    Now it’s over.

    Titans opened some eyes tonight…

  37. Irish Kevin says:

    Tennessee!,

  38. Grumpy Guy says:

Baltimore right now, tonight is San Francisco, January 9, 1988.

    Lot of stunned fans.

  39. unca_chuck says:

Now it is. Funny thing is, there was so much talk about the Vikings beating the Niners, but nothing about Tenn beating the Ravens.

My two biggest worries in these playoffs were New Orleans, Balt, and Seattle. Two down, one to go.

    • Winder says:

Russel Wilson has such a history with us that no matter what the situation is I get worried.
Glad Balt. got beat hopefully the Titans exposed Jackson’s game. But I think it was more the injuries to Ingram and their TE. Don’t really give a fuck but I am glad that we won’t see Balt in the SB just in case we get there.

  40. unca_chuck says:

Yup. I’m with you there. It would be wholly satisfying to stomp them here, but then again, the path of lesser resistance would be Green Bay. RW just scares the shit out of me. As MVPs go, the guy most important to the state of his team is Russell Wilson in a landslide. They would be 4-12 without him.

    New thread is up.
