Same As it Ever Was . . .

So, did the Charger win over the Chiefs, their first in 11 tries, give anyone any hope that we can stop our prolonged 10 game skid vs Seattle?

No?

Why not? The defense played better than they had much of the season last week against a decent if not solid Broncos team. Maybe the kids ARE alright. Malcolm Smith rode the bench, Earl Mitchell as well, to make way for Elijah Lee and DJ Jones. The DBs were in the right places for the most part, safety Marcell Harris had a nice game, and we weren’t leaving guys wide open all over the place.

Encouraging for this game, right? Hey, we have to break this streak eventually. Why not now? Seattle is coming off an emotional win vs a strong Minnesota team on a short week.

I’ve been wrong before, I’ll be wrong again.

This is hands down one of the best videos ever made . . .

  2. Winder says:

Seattle is playing for their playoff lives, I don’t think we have a chance.

  3. unca_chuck says:

Heh heh! Yer probably right. But they have to beat Seattle at some point.

    And of course there’s this . . .

  4. rtfirefly says:

Wow, I didn’t even know R. Lee Ermey, “Siege of Firebase Gloria”, “Full Metal Jacket”, died earlier this year. Dude was an actor but could have been portraying my uncle, a real life WWII, Korea, Vietnam Marine lifer, decorated sergeant-major. RIP belatedly.

  5. Berger says:

The Nevada Wolf Pack have a power forward named Jordan Caroline. His father is Simeon Rice, the former NFL DE. I doubt Jordan will make an NBA roster. He would probably make for a great TE in the NFL. This guy is usually the most physical player on the court and he has some great moves. He’s already been the Mountain West Player of the Week twice this year.

Just thinking out loud! We would be able to sign him after the draft, if he is even interested.

  6. unca_chuck says:

Has he played any college football?

  7. rtfirefly says:

Tony Gonzalez was a power forward at Cal and became the GOAT at NFL TE (1 fumble in his CAREER??). But he learned TE from Mariucci at Cal.

We need a #2 TE. Celek ain’t cutting it. No harm giving this kid a look (practice squad to learn TE?)
    as an UDFA.

  8. rtfirefly says:

JPP never played organized football until his senior year. Tore it up, athletic freak. Giants drafted him and still miss him, two fingers now or no.

  9. Irish Kevin says:

Now that was a basketball 🏀 game by the Kings and Warriors!

    • unca_chuck says:

The Kings youth showed. The Warriors played till the end. The Kings should have been feeding Fox all night. He was on fire. Instead you had guys like Shumpert shooting 3s.

  10. Winder says:

Sure we can take some shots on UDFA’s but we gotta be real careful with everyone else. We certainly need lots of help on defense but we could use some WR’s that could stay on the field for some length of time.also. We need our QB to be the gunslinger that we know he can be.

  11. unca_chuck says:

There are a shit-ton of UFA WRs but no one that’s a true #1. Golden Tate, Randall Cobb, or even Tavon Austin would be solid additions though.

  12. Winder says:

Have to go with the Bears this week. If they lose and the Rams win they clinch a 1st rd bye.

Shanny Jr on the Seahawks ” I’ve been sick of them for a long time”.
Love it, a coach without the B.S. banal quotes, just straight up tells it like it is.

  14. rtfirefly says:

Darnold played a good game against a red hot Texans team. Better team and he could be a very good QB.
Mayfield has been everything the doctor ordered for Cleveland.
Barkley is an all-out stud, the best rookie RB I’ve seen in a good long while. Power, broken tackles and amazing speed, and an excellent pass receiver.
Darnold looks like he could be very good FQB (right coach, right team).

First three picks of last year’s draft…

  15. unca_chuck says:

That’s right, there are Saturday games. Tex beat the jets, Browns and Broncs coming up.

    • rtfirefly says:

The Texans are a tough team to judge. They’ve won 10 of 11. They also haven’t beaten anybody good. Pats, Chargers, Chiefs are all better but you can’t ignore a team on a roll like they are.

  16. rtfirefly says:

Mayfield’s accuracy is way off tonight. He’s missing passes you would think are money for a guy like Jimmy G. He is an outstanding game manager for a rook, though, smart young QB. I’ve also seen him burn teams repeatedly with the long ball.
Accuracy has to improve to make the next level.

How many hours before Vance Joseph is packing up his belongings?
B2B losses to SF and Cleveland?
    U-Haul time……

  18. 12th Man says:

McGlinchey is highest ranked O line rookie:

    Good pick, future LT.

    • NJ49er says:

      Agreed 12th.
I’m entertaining the thought, that Lynch could opt for another OT next April, if we miss/pass on a DE.
There’s probably enough talent in this Class to get a pass rusher beyond the Top 3?
Paying an OT big money is probably a safe long-term Contract to entertain?
Like McGlinchey, grabbing the highest rated OT would be a good investment.

      • NJ49er says:

By comparison, Richburg hasn’t impressed me whatsoever.
Hope they have their eyes on a young replacement from this Draft too.
Keeping my eye on OC Sam Mustipher from ND during the Bowl Bonanza stretch.
Another product of the Coaching that produced McGlinchey and Quenton Nelson this year.
Both Top 10 Picks of course.
Mustipher won’t go anywhere near that level, by current rankings.
The kid from NCST Garrett Bradberry, is another good one to follow. He appears to be a bit more nimble than Mustipher.
Centers are generally much less expensive in Draft terms.

  19. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, Westie’s been fairly mediocre for the money he got. Looney is now starting in Dallas, and Kilgore in Miami. Not sure why they gave up on Kilgore. He played much better once Garoppolo started playing last year.

  20. unca_chuck says:

Watching the Denver game now. Nice to see them lose again. Keenum is a complete waste of time.

Elway continues to steer the team into the rocks.

Must say, Denver and Seattle are the worst at giving hometown calls to their team.
