As the Season Winds On, We Rearrange the Deck Chairs

In not-so-exciting news, we’ve made some roster moves. Namey Jimmie JJ Dyno-mite broken forearm Ward broke his, uh, forearm.

They claimed DB Godwin Igwebuike off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and promoted LB James Onwualu to the active roster from the team’s practice squad. We’ve definitely rathed up the vowels and consonants on the team.

We also signed LB Tyrell Adams and WR Max McCaffrey to the practice squad. Max’s dad Ed was a solid guy that we didn’t have room for back in the day. Had a nice career with the Broncos. His brother Christian ain’t bad either.

I’m glad Max is back. I was rooting for him as a training camp longshot. Good genes.

  2. Irish Kevin says:

My take is better, faster guys to rush the QB, 2 speedy WR, and two dudes to protect the QB. If the Niners had a way to get pressure on the QB the back field would not have been left out to dry! There have been times where the back field has been good, but the D line could not get to the scrambling QB, no sack, no pressure to make the QB throw a bad pass, absolutely nothing from the D front line.

  3. Winder says:

It’s pretty much the same problem Walsh had in his first two years. we could score but we couldn’t stop anyone.

    • rtfirefly says:

2 guys survived Walsh’s purge of the defensive back 7 between ’79 and ’81, starters and backups both. 2!!! Both linebackers, I remember Bobby Leopold was one.

We need the same thing now.

Chuck my reference to Paraag in the last thread was meant to convey the analytics input in NOLA.
Their guy Herman, working with Payton, to expose tendencies and stats to assist in game prep.
After reading that piece I couldn’t help but appreciate how thoroughly NOLA prepared for a routine in-season game.
Focus on detail like that is incredible.
Relative to Reich, it’s very much the same as McVay with Goff. When a good Coach can work with a good QB, you can see the results immediately.

    Why do I bother?

  6. rtfirefly says:

Don’t understand why you bother. Do you need help? Liking football and rooting on the team I’ve been old enough to appreciate for half a century now gives me pleasure. Sharing my fandom with others is a little chocolate of life. If you get pleasure from what you’re doing it just tells me your life really sucks.

Poor Sandy. Guess those Dodgers blowing 2 World Series in a row put him over the edge.

  8. unca_chuck says:

Got to say it is pretty funny to read Skeebs blog and see NoFear sucking his own dick. I guess that’s why he disappears for so long.

    Jimmy Ward’s new nickname..Hospital Ward!
Guy can never stay healthy, think his days with the 49ers are over..

    • NJ49er says:

      Ward is gone
Arik’s 5th yr option is likely not worth it either.
I’d seek upgrades at FS/OG/RB/WR in FA.
      This Draft is Defensive heavy.
I’m moving LSU LB Devin White way up, now that Foster flamed out too.
ASU WR N’keal Harry already declared too.
      He’s a fringe RD1 guy right now.
      Could change after Combines.
He’s not fast but, solid #2 IMO. Much like Anquan.
Have to hang onto Pick 1 if possible.
That’s the money spot for dealing.

  10. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, I don’t see Armstead sticking either. If they can trade him for picks, they should. Ward, Garcon, and Garnett as well.

After reading that glowing article that NJ about the unstoppability of the New Orleans offense, Dallas holds them to 150 yards and 10 points and they lose.

    Amazing how that works!

    • rtfirefly says:

In their SB Champ year, the Saints went 13-3 with losses to TB, Dal, and Car.
This year, the Saints are 10-2 with losses to TB and Dal. Two games left against Car.

    • NJ49er says:

Makes one think the extra days off for Dallas helped, while also wondering if Payton took them a bit too lightly?
I also thought, Dallas was very familiar with how to single out Eli Apple, from his time with NYG.
Apple at least got NYG a Draft Pick in return.
More than can be said for is with Foster.

      • rtfirefly says:

Trap game. That failed 4th and goal from the 2 followed by Dallas burning up like 7 min to get a FG and close out the half was the obvious turning point. But NO just played sloppy: dropped passes left and right, key 3rd down defensive personal foul, holding penalties at key times…

Frankly, they reminded me last night of the Niners.

  12. Winder says:

Yeah, I was hoping Dallas was gonna choke but surprisingly they played a full game.

  13. Winder says:

KC released Hunt. That was quick. My guess is he’ll be a Raider soon. Unless he’s to high priced, the Raiders are downsizing it seem at the moment.

    • rtfirefly says:

Good for them. Look for the Dan (kneeling is EVIL) Snyder to pick him up. His team needs a PR controversy since it’s going in the dumpster again. Reuben and Hunt can go out for drinks discussing relationships.

  14. unca_chuck says:

Huh. Just saw the video. This happened in February? The investigation didn’t turn this up? Why is it that TMZ can get videos that the NFL can’t? Plausible deniability?

  15. rtfirefly says:

Yawn. Maybe after a hundred years of practice you’ll be Groucho Marx. Doubtful cuz you’ll be very dead long before that.

  16. Winder says:

Probably no one cares but Stanford took the big Game. I used to love going to the Stanford Bonfire every year before the big game. They burnt everything( telephone poles, desks, doors, palates, etc. Man when it got going it was a sight to see.

  17. rtfirefly says:

Choke job for the ages from Georgia. Blow 2 TD lead in the 4th, then do what?????

Fake punt from the 50 on 4th and 10 and 3:00 left and BAMA’S WHOLE DEFENSE on the field.

Easily the worst play call of all time. Nothing will ever touch that.
