Is it just me, or is anyone else concerned about the apparent problems Kyle Shanahan has in closing games out? Last year was all about being in games, but not quite getting over the hump. This year? More of the same. Even with Jimmy G, we were close with the Vikes and Chiefs, barely beat the Lions, and now we have blown 4th quarter leads.
I get that we are hurt, we are thin, and we are in transition, but still, we had the Packers on the ropes and then played conservative and gave the ball back to Rodgers enough times that he finally won it. Much like last night. We have the ball on the Giants 20, first down, time running low, and we run run pass, 4th and one, FG. Not exactly inspiring football there. I would have loved to see a shot into the end zone there off play action.
Yes, it’s BDN (or SDN [shrinkage dick Nick) in there, but why so careful? Neither pick was an egregious error on Mullens’, they were both miscommunications between Mullens and the WR. As it was of course we take the lead and then promptly forget to cover a TE for a 40 yard run and catch. Game over for all intents and purposes.
BDN made it close coming down the field, but NY was in prevent and were happy enough to give up the short over the middle shit. Still and all, with a full compliment of timeouts, we would have been able to have a better chance. to get that game-winning TD. Yes, another pet peeve of mine. Time management.
They screwed up the close of the half as well by not using a timeout at 38 seconds and instead burned 14 seconds spiking the ball. That’s a waste of a down, plus two plays in those 12 seconds. When you get down that close with time winding down, you pass. Every time. So it is either incomplete, you go out of bounds on the catch, or you get down and call time.
Anyhow, we are now #2 in the draft with losses to AZ and the Giants. I’m really starting to wonder f the Raiders will go all-in on a QB. Justin Herbert in other words. Chucky wants his QB and that low-hanging fruit might be too hard to pass up. Carr should be long gone by draft time, so this should be very interesting. Oak (Vegas) can get a great pass rusher + a QB if they pay their cards right. Unlike the Browns who could have had Saquon Barkley and likely Mayfield anyway and instead fucked it up. Like the Bears and their misguided leap of 2 spots.
Nice.
Love that song.
Tough loss in Santa Clara but we can always find solace in obsessing over the Raiders (even though we don’t play them again until 2022) because that’s also the low hanging fruit. Meanwhile, we have no answer for NYG except for Kyle Williams and he hasn’t been around in years. When was the last time we beat the Rams or Seahawks? Who cares, because fuck the Raiders!
We have two possible wins left in my view: TB, whose defense is awful, and the last week at the tanking (mebbe?) Rams. TB will be a 10 AM start after a 3000+ mile trip. The Rams game is too early to judge.
We’re #2 in draft position now. Even had we won last night, we’d be #5. Getting one, and I dearly hope two, top ER prospect(s) looks really good.
Too bad we need a top CB, a top FS, a LB, and a #1 WR. Getting there I hope.
Great Defensive Class coming out in April.
Lynch should be thinking long and hard about holding a higher slot like Gruden is doing.
You don’t necessarily need to Pick if someone is willing to buy the slot from you too.
All the talent seeding will come soon enough and, we won’t be in the QB market. There doesn’t appear to be a top shelf QB in this Class anyway.
The BPA in an Area of need would be my MO.
LSU LB Devin White looks like another heat seeking missile like P52.
He’d be an immediate improvement over Malcolm Smith IMO.
Lot’s to decipher between now and then of course.
Another season down the tubes. Something that seems to be all too familiar in York Land.
No, we need a pass rusher first and foremost. Bosa or Oliver.
Today;s NFL is all about attrition. No money for a decent backup means you lose your QB you lose your season.
There are 4 to 5 top flight pass rushers so I’m not too concerned about draft position. And you can never be certain about what the Raiders will do with the overall 1 pick. We will be anywhere from 2-5.
If Gruden loves Herbert, we could get Bosa. Dumber things have happened. I’m just disappointed we need to go defense yet again with our draft. I’m really disappointed in the job Saleh is doing.
In my mind KS has also been disappointing. I don’t see a very creative or productive offense. We are gonna have to pick up quite a few players this next off-season, we have very few top notch players. Saleh has a lot to answer for and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him gone after the year’s up.
Yeah, the innovative guy he is supposed to be isn’t quite materializing. Even with jimmy G. Yeah, we need better weapons, but I’m not as high on him as I was at the start of the season. Brieda has looked good, and the run game is actually better than I thought it would be, what with McKinnon out all year, but I am not sure why we can’t finish games. Shanny has the propensity to turtle up late in games and play it safe. It isn’t working.
And I’m really disappointed in the defense.
Finishing games = pass rush + secondary
Neither of which we have.
Not crazy about the play calling when we have the lead. The drive that led to the FG was lame on e we got to the red zone.
Let’s recall why Shanny isn’t in Atlanta anymore.
The SB that he couldn’t deliver, when it was all but in the bag, but for his inability to close it out.
And no surprise to me, we’re flexed out yet again from Primetime vs Seattle.
The NOT so ready for Primetime season continues.
He was out the door before he fucked up the Super Bowl.
Atlanta gives up 550 yards and can’t hold a 25 pt. 2nd half lead but it’s Shanny’s fault?
Was he the HC or DC too?
His inability to close the game is my point. Sound familiar?
He continued to throw when he should have concentrated on burning clock/moving sticks.
I’d figure Arthur Blank has banned him from ever stepping foot inside of a Home Depot facility ever again too 😀
Yeah, Shanny foots part of the blame. He should have run a lot more in the 2nd half in that game. And it is a pattern here. Not all his fault as our defense forgets to cover guys all the time, but still and all we have given up a lot of leads in the 4th quarter.
Hence my comparison Chuck.
He’s got a flaw that seems to be getting exposed by the competition.
And, for year 2 of Salehs’ System, there continues to be all sorts of confusion going on in the Secondary, which also concerns me.
Is it players? Is it Coaching? Something stinks.
Yeah, last year I don’t remember guys being completely left alone to run free for 30 yards like this year. 2 or 3 times a game for fuck’s sake.
Good film breakdown of the D and the running game.
Shanny is the reason they are in these games at all. A practice squad QB and an undrafted RB are his starters.

12th, my feeling is Shanny needs as much practice as he can get finishing games as well as the players. Regardless of who the personnel is, and who is hurt, they still have blown a lot of leads late. Their play is wildly inconsistent, even with Jimmy G. Yeah, the defense is lame, but Shanny bears part of the blame for these outcomes. He’s the coach.
Beyond that, Brieda is a very good runner. Undrafted or not.
Forget about Kyle Shanahan and let’s go hire Marv Lewis to be our head coach. As far as running backs go, Brieda could be the next Roger Craig. He was the ultimate NY Giants killer…or something like that…
The o line is playing at a very high level hence the running game. Brieda is undersized and somewhat fragile, he is a complimentary type back and was to play that role this year behind Jet. He wasnt on the field to close out the game.
Shanny is universally praised for his playcalling and scheme by everyone who breaks down the film play by play, without emotion. He is that good.
20/20 hindsight is always perfect regarding playcalling.
Without a doubt the D collapses are what is causing these tight game losses. Who would have expected the Niners to be that close in GB and at the Vikes? That’s Shanny.
The losses are 80% players most on the D side, namely pass rush and DB’s although LB Smith is a hot mess too.
Shanny can improve and no doubt he will but he is not the reason they keep losing close games, that’s mostly a lack of talent.
Lynch has his work cut out, only 5 picks, he has to use FA heavily to compete.
Just saw that Roy Clark died. He was one of my favorites and really talented. RIP.
This is pretty fricking awesome.
Always liked Roy Clark, guy is amazing on guitar! That was some Ass kicking licks right there!
Yeah, that’s some insane shit right there.
I know we have seen this one before but since the season has been so discouraging I thought something fun might help.
The Raiders are ahead! The Raiders are ahead! The Raiders are ahead!
That didn’t last long LOL.
I’d much rather have a division rival whose only two wins are against our Niners beat the Raiders than have the Raiders win because laughing at the Raiders is the only good thing us 49er Faithful have right now. Although our real NFC division rivals own us. And we still can’t beat the Giants. Oh well…at least the Raiders suck!
At!
We’re #1 overall in the draft! Good job Vegas!
Adios, DieHard.
Arwen’t we behind the Raiders because of our win vs them? I thought head-to-head was the first tie break criterion.
Nope, head-to-head doesn’t count. It’s SOS (Strength of Schedule) and then coin flip. The only real SOS competition we have right now is the two NY teams. That’s obviously subject to change as records change.

Wow. We’re #1!!
New thread is up.
