Upward and Onward

So, the Nicky Mullens Experience continues. I’m glad because he deserves it. He hit 8 different pass catchers, and did his job. Yeah, it was the Raiders, but the Beater didn’t exactly light up the Cards. The Beater has always done just enough to lose, so we need to see if Mullens can continue his roll.

And we need to see if the problem lies with the QB, or the signal-caller. Shanny himself has some major issues with closing out games, so we need to determine if Mullens gives Shanny a better opportunity to win. And if the problem lies with Kyle to some extent.

Weird we go from Thursday to Monday, so we’ve had a mini-bye followed by our real bye after the Giants Monday night game. That’s a lot of time off. Yeah, draft position is key, but again, we need to focus on getting better, and let the draft chips fall where they may. We have two winnable games coming up, and the next five games are within the realm of reachable. Providing Mullens can get rolling.

Gruden can piss away what remains of his Oakland goodwill and build for the 2020 season as he thinks he must, but iIf I was a Raider fan, I’d be furious. I also wouldn’t trust Gruden with those 3 first round picks next year. I’d shit-can his ass before he gets there.

Gruden is just following orders and Davis is the one giving them. But, I wouldn’t trust Gruden either. I guess McKenzi(sp) is just a straw man. I hope that Mullens can play at least half as good as he did last week if he does we have a chance. It really depends on our Dline.

  2. 12th Man says:

I read somewhere the Niners have the 7th toughest schedule after the Giants game, not sure how that is calculated.
I think Shanny Jr answered his critics pretty well last year once Jimmy G took over. The Niners beat some contenders down the stretch.
At least with Mullens starting there is some interest in the game for us fans and a chance of winning, watching Beathard get beaten up each week was tough.

We are a hot mess of a team but the best thing about being a devoted 49er fan is that we get to spend 80% of our time ignoring our team in favor of worrying about what the Raiders are doing and, even better, we always have the next new franchise QB that’ll be the next (insert old retired QB from 30 years ago here) whoever. The Raiders suck, hahahahaha!!…..oh yeah, and go Niners.

When you’re in rebuild mode, Draft Picks are the most important commodity to have.
After that, it’s being closest to the top of the pecking order, to have options to select, or deal, for more Picks.
Gruden is doing what needs to be done and we’re best served to follow suit.
We have our QB position settled it would seem but, it’s a huge number against the Cap, unless Mullens could prove to be a cheaper alternative to Jimmy.
Now Gruden can choose between another QB if he wishes while having the option to deal Carr.
What kills me is how obvious Gruden is in his efforts to tank.
NYG will likely have incentive to seek Draft position too, in order to secure Eli’s eventual replacement in April as well.

      • Winder says:

Jimmy’s cap hit is a lot friendlier this coming year. Mullens might be a pretty good QB we will have to wait and see but I truly doubt he will give Jimmy a run for his money. What Gruden is doing is more about profits than anything else. Clean house in the remaining time in Oakland and start a youth movement rebuild on the cheap in Vegas. The New stadium will sell out no matter what and they will at least have a 4/5 year window to show something. Smart and hell business move. For any of it to work he will have to hit on most of his draft picks and that is highly unlikely. I think Gruden has a very large ego and all that money probably helps to feed it. He has taken over the GM job it seems also.

      • Winder says:

Good QB’s cost money. The Mahomes(sp) and Watson’s are far and few between and they will both cost money pretty soon.

I don’t think CJ’s the answer, and I certainly don’t think Mullens is challenging Jimmy G. I’m just looking for a viable backup.

This isn’t a bumper crop for QBs so I don’t know what the Giants or Raiders are going to do, but we can get a high-level pass rusher anywhere from 1-5. And we’ll be top 5. I’m not too worried about the draft as far as where we draft. We just need to get it right.

    • NJ49er says:

Brady was a late RD steal too. Never know when the next Messiah will arrive.
Jimmy is getting a fat Contract for being TBs backup with very little experience attached to him. If Mullens can provide enough game action this year it could prove invaluable if Jimmy doesn’t regain his poise following an ACL rebuild.
It’s always going to be on his mind now.

  5. Berger says:

A couple of teammates called Mullens BDN after the game. Anybody know what that means?

  6. unca_chuck says:

Let’s hope he keeps it up.

  7. unca_chuck says:

    So to speak . . .

  8. Irish Kevin says:

I forget where I read this but the players said last year when JG started he took control of the huddle no hesitation. I wonder if that is how Mullen did it, cause CJ certainly does not command the troops very well.

    • 12th Man says:

I read the same about Mullens, stepped right in, assertive.

    • rtfirefly says:

Kittle said that BDN was cracking everybody up in the huddle. It’s a one-way radio system into the QB’s helmet speaker, and BDN would start “talking back” to Kyle during the O play call, and saying stuff like, “Doesn’t this guy ever shut up?”

      BDN

  9. unca_chuck says:

To a man, and the coaches as well, have said the Mullens is VERY smart, and has the entire offense digested. That while Jimmy G was starting, CJ was playing ping pong, and Mullens was studying the book and going over film.

  10. unca_chuck says:

And the the Beater was very good at ping pong.

  11. alleykat69 says:

I had to laugh when I heard the Buffalo Bills fans setup a “Go Fund Me Fund” for QB Nate Petermen to retire!!

  12. unca_chuck says:

    Wow. Barkley? Sheesh.

    • rtfirefly says:

Hard to believe the Bills were a playoff team last year with an adequate starting QB and 2 (count ’em) 1st round picks. If Josh Allen doesn’t work out, it’ll be a meltdown to remember.

      • Winder says:

To me Allen was the biggest gamble of the top 5 qb’s. He was the one I would nave picked. I still think with the right coaching he could be an outstanding player. He was the least nfl ready out of all of them but he has some natural gifts throwing a football. I hope Buffalo doesn’t wreak him. Fucking Mahomes is just tearing it up KC scored big time..

      • rtfirefly says:

Allen has a monster arm but accuracy was the knock on him. Mayfield was my pick, but I think the Browns should’ve drafted Barkley #1 and chanced it that Mayfield would be there at #4.

It’s so hard to judge rooks. Coaching, O-line, weapons, playing from behind all the time because of a lousy defense?

  13. unca_chuck says:

Can’t believe Hot tub Matt is on deck. The Bills are a mess.

  14. alleykat69 says:

So now we have Big Dick Nick Mullens lol .
I still crackup whenever I see the Tom Hanks movie Bachelor Party and all the woman are out partying, and some friend of Hanks spot them at a strip club, and sets them up on a prank, when “Nick the Dick” comes over to them all with a tray of wieners with his wiener inside a bun,and the (mother in law to be?) asked him is this 100% all beef? And he says ,”And then some”, so she grabs the bun and and it won’t come, as the waiter kept moving back and forth, just classic stuff back then, the movies a cult classic imo..

  15. DieHardNinerFaithfulSince2011 says:

Well, it’s about that time again where as die hard Niner fans focus all of our attention on talking shit about the Raiders! What a sad sack of a non-rival team we always obsess over for some weird reason.

Btw, what are the Niners playing for today?

  16. unca_chuck says:

Bakkentom is stealing your material, AK.

At least BDN gives us something to look forward to.
